Overall Experience

Since my husband became a resident of Mountain View in March, myself & our son have been absolutely delighted with the care, dedication & lovely manner in which he is looked after. We've also been welcomed into the home where the fabulous staff actively engage with us too. My husband is encouraged daily to spend time in the lounge area where he can be amongst staff/other visitors. The Well-being team do an excellent job with varied activities/outings. We all attended a Father's Day afternoon tea in The Street (communal area), a Carnival evening on the unit with a quiz, music & buffet, animal interaction afternoon, my husband attends breakfast club in The Street every Wednesday morning where he can meet residents from other units, there is gardening club, outings in the minibus, fortnightly church services which he enjoys plus regular singers providing afternoon entertainment. I feel very lucky to have found Ty Penrhos for his care.

Very happy with the care my mum receives, carers are always very welcoming and friendly on daffodil rise. Just a shame visiting closes at lunch time, shame we can't go into our loved ones rooms to feed them like how we was able to before at that time. Also, I feel as though my mum would be safer if walkers were monitored when walking around freely. As there has been reports of them walking into individuals rooms and taking items and my mum would not be able to react or call for help if needed.

I visit my sister in law every week for about one and half hours so am reluctant to be to critical because I am not here long enough. I feel staff are not attentive enough to the people they are caring for and spend a lot of time sitting their their phones or eating. I find I have to return clothes weekly that don't belong to my relative and she is often wearing clothes that are not hers. The ratings I have left are because I have no seen meals or activities and do not know how much is being paid.

Excellent care given by staff to my dad. Rooms are clean and well maintained. Food times do vary slightly, so often sat waiting for food. Food isn't cut up for my dad who can have large pieces of meat he can't cut/eat. Staff are friendly + helpful. Level of frustration when my dad doesn't have his socks put on despite numerous request on balance though very good.

My mother has been at Ty-Penrhos since December 2021 and sadly, in February this year, she was diagnosed with terminal cancer. It was in my mum's best interest to keep her in the care home for a number of reasons but not least because she would have been incredibly distressed by the admission to a hospital. My mother also has dementia but Ty Penrhos and some of the regular staff at Daffodil Rise Unit are still familiar to her. I cannot praise them enough for their dedication, compassion and the outstanding care they have given to my mother and for the communication and support I've also received. The Managers, carers and palliative nurses at Daffodil Rise are the 'unsung heroes' who often go above and beyond what is expected of them and I hope this is recognised and they know how much they are appreciated.

We have nothing but praise for the care the staff gave Mam whilst she was with you on the Caerphilly unit. They really went above and beyond. Mams care was complex but nothing was too much trouble for them. They strived to make sure Mam was comfortable and they took time to make sure all of her needs were catered for. They gave her hugs and held her hand when she was upset and when Mam was having a good day they would sing and dance with her. When it came to Mams last days they were there for us too providing not only food and drink but hugs and kind words. They really are the best and we would like them to receive this feedback from us. We really can't thank them enough.

Ty Penrhos stood out when I was looking for a place for my mum. She has been a resident since Sept 2023 and it proved to be the best place for her. The staff show care and kindness and understand her frustrations due to her Alzheimer's. The whole place is always clean and has a pleasant calm atmosphere. When she moved from residential to nursing the staff went out of their way to make it as easy as possible. They arrange lots of activities which the residents all seem to enjoy. I can't praise them enough.

Visiting Mountain View, the unit seemed calm and peaceful and all the staff were friendly and busy doing various tasks. One lady in particular, always goes out of her way to say hello and chat. Which is lovely when visiting. It makes you feel like a friend is caring for your family member.
Another lady also made a concerted effort to say hello and chat. She spoke passionately about the morning's activity session and a recent course she had been on. It was lovely to hear someone speak so positively about their role.
I also experienced her interacting with other residents, she showed great care and consideration even though I could see she was extremely busy. The smallest thing which really left an impression was that she made a point of sitting in a different spot so all residents could chat and see her.

Mountain View has always been a lovely community. The unit felt full of love and care, and it was a pleasure to visit.

My mother has been in this care home since August 2023. She has received very good care. She has been prescribed medication which has had a positive effect.
