Amazing facility, staff are exceedingly friendly and helpful. Mum has settled in here so well, nothing is too much trouble for these guys. Mum is happy, well cared for and happy. I would recommend Ty Penrhos and Daffodil Ward to anyone. The Manager and the team are amazing with mum and with ourselves.

Dad is well cared for in Ty Penrhos Care Home by caring staff.

The quality of food however is a concern. Dad is not receiving a balanced diet. Fruit and vegetables do not appear to be a consideration in the meal planning.

Thank you for placing your review on Carehome Wales. It is very pleasing to know that you are happy with the care your loved one is receiving. I will take on board what you have said about the menu and will have a chat with the chef to see how we can rectify this.

Overall, satisfied and the staff are very friendly and helpful. However, food needs an urgent review e.g. a lack of fruit and vegetables and/or choice of meals. Meals are often repeated and do not look appetising e.g. mashed potatoes covered in tinned tomatoes (tea).

I visit my friend on Mountain View regularly and the staff are always kind and welcoming. He is being cared for so well and looks really happy. He looked so poorly before coming into the home and I never thought he would ever look this good again. He has even started speaking to the staff, that shows he feels comfortable with them.

Reply from Karen Johns, Deputy Manager at Ty Penrhos Care Home

My mother-in-law has been a resident for over a year at Ty Penrhos Care Home. The staff have been flexible and helpful at all times and have made the transition as easy as it can possibly be. We are grateful that she is being looked after in the best environment possible for her.

Absolutely cannot fault the care Mum is receiving. Nothing is too much trouble and the ratio to residents on Mum's unit is amazing.

Management go above and beyond. Constant contact with Mum's unit. Activities, trips and fundraising are well organised.

My wife has been a resident at Ty Penrhos since June of last year on Daffodil Rise. She is happy and well looked after by all the staff who are excellent. Nothing is too much trouble for them and they treat my wife as if she were a member of their family, for which I am extremely grateful.

When I couldn't manage to look after my husband, who suffered from Alzheimer's/dementia/cancer, I was advised by the hospital, where he was admitted for respite, that he had deteriorated and I wouldn't be able to cope. I started looking for nursing homes, which I dreaded. I was asked to travel to Splott, which I was not prepared to do. However, I was offered a place in Ty Penrhos Care Home, which I accepted at once as a friend of the family had firsthand experience, as her father had been cared for there. Also, all my family live in Caerphilly and the surrounding area. We were both treated like their own family. I was really happy and my husband settled in very well and I could see he would be happy too.

I am writing on behalf of my husband who is a fairly new resident at this care home. I have found the staff most helpful and polite. He is well cared for and always looks clean and tidy. He enjoys the food (the breakfast is his favourite). His room feels cosy and warm with a few of his own pictures and TV. After visiting him, I come away knowing he is well looked after, which gives me great peace of mind.

Very impressed with the level of care my grandfather has received so far. This one-to-one carer is fantastic, and my grandfather clearly enjoys his company. Lots of activities - it's great to see photos of the residents taking part in these. Clean home, spacious rooms, excellent staff - couldn't ask for more. Having worked in ASC myself previously, I know how hard it can be to find the right care provider, so I'm very impressed with Ty Penrhos so far!

Good activities and interaction with residents in the home. The home is always clean and welcoming, the staff are always polite and friendly, and nothing is too much trouble for them, and we, as a family, are always kept up to date on visits and by phone calls. My father has one-to-one care during the day; we are very happy with the care and safety this provides him with. My dad interacts and responds well with his carer; he is calmed by him when he gets agitated and loves his daily games of dominos. Dad appears happy, well cared for and well-fed.

Whilst having difficulty visiting my father due to Covid restrictions, I was always able to talk to a member of staff regarding his health. I have found all the staff in Caerphilly Unit to be very caring, kind and supportive. Now I am able to visit whenever I want, I have always found my father to be clean, shaven and safe.

My father has been a resident here since Dec 2021, and from the first visit, I have nothing but praise. They have and are continuing to provide a great standard of compassion in their continuing high standard of care of my father. He has advanced dementia and is non-mobile. The staff are always welcoming, My dad always looks calm and comfortable whenever I visit and now the restrictions have lifted we can go anytime. I love how they try and continue to engage with him and encourage him to participate in activities. His favourite is singing. Daffodil Rise has recently been painted and looks fresh, his room is always clean and the ensuite wet room is perfect for his needs. Staff are accommodating and email exchanges are prompt. Fabulous Care home. Thank you for all you are continuing to do.

Now that Covid has relaxed restrictions, I feel happier giving a true assessment of care. Whenever I visit, I am made to feel welcome, and the care attendants are always happy to accommodate me and my wishes. The home is light, airy and lovely and clean. Staff seem to interact cheerfully with residents, even under challenging circumstances. I do feel that all bread should be wholemeal to assist with common toilet problems and fibre helps.

My mum was at Ty Penrhos for 6 years. She suffered from vascular dementia as well as diabetes, which added extra problems. I wish to give a massive thank you to every member of staff at the home, especially on Daffodil unit. The wonderful care and love given to my mum has left me and my family totally and utterly grateful to the superb staff. I don’t know all the names but special mention to those who cared for mum over the years. Thank you all so much.

I would like to thank all the staff at Ty Penrhos for the kindness they showed to my mother whilst she was a resident at Ty Penrhos. My mum suffered from Alzheimer’s, and we were only able to visit her once before the lockdown started, but the staff seemed very kind and compassionate.

So, once again, many thanks to all the staff

My dad transferred to Ty Penrhos in August from another dementia care home as his condition had deteriorated and he now required nursing care. Due to the coronavirus restrictions, we were unable to previsit the home but soon realised what a great choice we had made. The excellent staff made sure we were kept well informed with how he was settling in and the few phone calls/outdoor visits we had with my dad confirmed how well he was being looked after. He sadly became very poorly within weeks and I cannot praise the clinical lead nurse and her nursing and care staff high enough. Their professionalism, compassion and end of life support helped us as a family cope with the very difficult and upsetting time as he sadly passed away. The staff are genuinely caring for the residents and treat them with respect. The home is purpose-built, rooms are spacious and everywhere is kept lovely and clean. Would recommend this home to anyone looking for a care home for their loved one.

Mum’s dementia had deteriorated at the beginning of the year, which led to her transfer from another care home to Ty Penrhos care home. We were immediately impressed with the level of care she received from the staff, along with the compassion shown during a significant dip in her behaviour. Unfortunately before mum was able to really settle in, Covid 19 hit all care homes and we were unable to visit her. Our family throughout this time have been reassured with all aspects of her care, from the excellent communication with staff to the activities team who have worked so hard to keep families in touch and the level of care and wellbeing for all residents. We can highly recommend this care home and the management involved in the running of this care home.
