Reviews

7.8 Ashworth Grange has a Review Score of 7.8 (7.767)

The Review Score of 7.8 (maximum of 10) for Ashworth Grange is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 23 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Ashworth Grange in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.361 for Ashworth Grange is calculated as follows: ( (133 Excellents x 5) + (108 Goods x 4) + (32 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 274 Ratings = 4.361

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 3.406 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ashworth Grange is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 = 3.25

    2. Target of 12.8 positive Reviews (64 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 2 Reviews ÷ 12.8 Target = 0.156

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

My Dad went into Ashworth Grange for a short stay on his discharge from the hospital. After four weeks he became a permanent resident. My Dad is a man who likes to keep himself to himself but since being in Ashworth, I have been told he is joining in with the activities, in particular, the card making. All the carers are pleasant and seem happy in their work. They are there in an instant if you need them. The same can be said for the management team, three of them who are new to Ashworth. It is nice getting to know them all and they have made me feel very welcome and know I can have a chat.

My father has settled into Ashworth Grange very well. He has regained some confidence knowing that he is safe and cared for 24 hours a day. He looks stronger than when he first arrived. He tells us he likes the staff and that they look after him well. From a family point of view we feel happy when we leave hin in the caring environment we sense when we visit. The staff make us feel welcome anytime.

My aunt has previously been admitted to Ashworth Grange for respite care while her husband was in hospital in 2015. Following my uncles death my aunt came to live at Ashworth Grange in May 2016. The manager and staff are friendly and helpful and my aunt appears happy and well cared for.

I think the carers at the home are wonderful, nothing is too much trouble for them whenever I go they are very pleasant, also if they have any concerns they always make a point of having a word with me. If I ever had to go into a home this is the one I would choose.

I spent a lot of time looking for the best possible care home for my mother. Ashworth Grange was way a head in terms of the facilities and built quality. In the three years my mother has been in the home she has been fantastically cared for by all the team. They are proactive and sort any medical issues immediately without requiring the family to chase. While being in a care home isn't ideal for the person or their family, the team at Ashworth Grange have been wonderful throughout.

Thank you for taking the time to review Ashworth Grange and for your kind words about our staff and the level of care your Mother receives. Ideal Carehomes appreciates all feedback about our homes and would like to inform you that we have recently recruited a new Regional Activities Executive for the Yorkshire area, who will be tasked with assisting our homes to organise a varied range of activities including trips out for residents. Our home manager is always available to discuss any concerns which may arise, whenever you visit the home. If you would like to discuss this matter further, please feel free to contact our Customer Services team on 0113 385 3570.

My mum came into Ashworth Grange Care Home (residential) in November 2015. At first she was very unsure having had a bad experience with my dad who died of dementia 14 years ago and was very badly treated in a different home, not very far from Ashworth Grange. I too worried but my mum is now quite settled and looked after well.
The staff are lovely to her and understand her needs. My mum had a massive stroke which took all her speech, but is fully understanding and can make her needs known, we are all happy.

My mother was admitted into Ashworth Grange over 2 years ago suffering from Lewy Body disease, which is a form of dementia. During this period her condition has slowly gotten worse, until now when she is bed-ridden.
Her care has been excellent, the staff treat my mother with care and dignity. The home itself is very clean and well maintained, there is also a sensory garden for use in the summer. I would not hesitate in recommending the home for any person with dementia.

The standard of care is excellent. The facilities are also excellent, staff are friendly and caring. However, the billing and administration side of this business is shambolic. Every month the bill is incorrect. Every month a phone call is needed to rectify mistakes. It is not easy to gain access to a member of staff to deal with these issues. We are very happy with the care and comfort the home provides, but this is undermined every month by billing mistakes.

When I first walked into Ashworth Grange I could not believe how perfect it was (and still can't) It must seem like home from home for the residents. The staff are all so friendly and make you welcome on every visit. My one and only complaint is every time I visit my husband he has always got a lot of his clothes missing they are not all in the laundry so therefore must be in other residents rooms.

Mum has advanced dementia and has been here for almost three years. She and the other residents are always clean and well dressed reflecting their personalities. She likes the food and has remained healthy. The staff are kind to the residents, helpful and always willing to try to cheery them, providing drinks and biscuits. The residents are always treated with dignity and respect. The home is bright and cheerful and very clean it is good value.

Overall I think my mother is happy in the care home. However family members feel concern when we have to complain about the cleaning side and replacement of paper towels in the bathroom, the other recurring problem is the commode not being washed after being emptied, the overall cleanliness of the room is satisfactory but these two things are often overlooked.

I feel that the care my mother receives at Ashworth to be of a very good standard. Carers are kind, helpful and respectful towards her, and always willing to spend the time to have a chat or make mum a drink. I am kept informed of mums well-being in between visits and find Ashworth to be a first class care home with good food and excellent facilities.

As our mother has Alzheimer's we are completing this on our observations. She is often unkempt with dirty clothes when we visit. Her room is shabby, fridge broken for over 1 year. Although carers seem to care there is often no-one around when we visit (mid-morning) mum has "lost" lots of items including 1 slipper and 1 very expensive pair of spectacles, which we have to replace! Management are great at letting us know when she has a fall or similar. We are concerned about the lack of staff especially as her unit is home to dementia people who do get quite distressed at times and have been violent at items.

I find it difficult to give an opinion as there are things I am not fully happy with but in general do not affect my wife's care.
A care home can never be a substitute for home, but I viewed the care home (Ashworth Grange) ad a place I would not mind being myself. As I view a place for my wife as it is a place I would to to and this makes it okay for her.

Mother moved into the home 3 years ago and all times we have found her stay here very good indeed. The carers have been just great with her and looked after her very well. The food has also been very good, she is very picky but always found her something, she could enjoy. Also the management staff have also been so kind. I am sitting here with her now which might be the last time I spend with her as she has not got long to last now. Everyone is so caring and kind to her, cannot thank the staff enough.

Yvonne’s previous position as an Activities Manager has contributed greatly to her knowledge of the care sector and helped her to develop an understanding of the type of person centred approach that someone with dementia or similar condition would need. Yvonne would consider herself to be a compassionate and caring person who is able to build up a good rapport with residents, their families and the local community. She uses the individual feedback from residents as a central focus to her role, to increase their social interaction and mental stimulation and of course, their enjoyment. She has arranged lots of amazing trips for the Yorkshire residents, including afternoon tea at Betty’s Tea Rooms. Yvonne also arranges various daily activities, and regular pop-up restaurants and speakers.
