My mother has been a resident in the dementia ward for just over a year. Over this time her care has been amazing. The staff are quite simply the kindest, most patient team of people. Whenever I visit they always know where she is, what she's been doing and her general state of mind. They always have time and are so patient. Food is well cooked with lots of variety and good-sized portions.

This review is in mum's words - "I felt well looked after and very safe there. I really enjoyed the meals and all the staff were friendly and very attentive whilst staying there. I had a lovely clean room and now looked for a permanent residence at the home"

We were really happy with the care my father-in-law received whilst staying temporarily at Devonshire House. His five-week stay, during which he was really well looked after by the lovely staff, enabled him to get back on his feet following a dall and operation and he has been able to return to his own home.

Mum was made very welcome for a month of respite care at Devonshire House. The most important thing for Mum was cleanliness, and she was very happy with this aspect. She says that everyone was so helpful and kind.

Mum came to Devonshire House in August 2023. From the moment she arrived, we knew we had made the right choice. The staff were amazing. They made Mum and us feel very welcome. Since Mum has been here she’s made friends and has enjoyed the activities provided. Her room is lovely, bright and very clean. The whole house has a lovely feel to it. The staff are so welcoming and kind to Mum and us as visitors. This is a wonderful home and I know Mum will be very happy here.

I am very happy with the care and attention my husband gets and the staff are very caring and friendly. The only thing that could be improved is the activities. The food is quite good with lots of alternatives. They always provide special teas etc on special days like Mother’s or Father's day.

I am so pleased with the care and dedication my husband received in Devonshire House, they all loved him and treated him with respect at all times, they laughed with him, cried with him and went beyond their duties sometimes. They are such wonderful people, the care is exemplary. On his final day, they looked after the family all day. I can't thank Devonshire House staff enough, the manager and her staff 100%. Thank you!

Prior to my mother moving into Devonshire House two years and three months ago, we visited all the care homes in the Sudbury, Suffolk area, one in particular was the best, then we found Devonshire House. Due to its light and airy atmosphere, we thought it was even better. I have not been disappointed. All the care staff, team leaders and management have constantly shown a very high level of professional care and dignity. Now with the end of lockdown restrictions and the very proactive management team, the quality of care should maintain excellent standards.

I am 66 in a few weeks and I accept there is a real risk for me requiring a care home in the next fifteen years. I wish it to be Devonshire House.

The quality of care in Devonshire House in Cavendish is outstanding. They have been so attentive to my grandfather's needs including my late grandmother. They are very supportive too. Every resident looks well dressed, clean and well looked after. They put on great activities for the residents. The rooms are always clean and tidy. They are also given beautifully made homemade meals. The chef truly should be recognised he's brilliant at what he does and plans the meals weekly for variation for the residents' nutritional needs. Code of practice is delivered on a very high level in a professional way. Not being distracted when doing medication. Safety of residents and risk assessing each resident's needs and putting them into practice. Most of all each staff member I have met has a very caring nature. So lucky to have had such a beautiful home for our grandparents. Outstanding and the care home dog is just the cutest.

Excellent provision and care. More engagement in the activities would be good. This would require encouraging my mother to do this. She enjoyed the church service. My mother has enjoyed her time in respite care and particularly enjoyed the lunchtime chats with other residents.

We find the whole atmosphere very welcoming and clean. The atmosphere among the residents is one of real care and comfort. There is nothing really that the care home finds difficult to provide. Residents are very happy, as is my mother-in-law. Carers are very helpful and polite. The home is clean and well-maintained. Thank you.

My Dad had his last days in Devonshire House in 2015 and my Mum is now in the dementia wing there. I can't thank the staff enough. I'm always impressed by everyone that works there - can honestly say I've never seen any of the staff be anything but really kind and caring to the residents.

My 90-year-old mum has been a resident on the Ryder Wing since February 2020 when her dementia proved too much for her to continue to live on her own. From the start, the staff have always shown great care and attention towards Mum and slowly she has built up a strong rapport and trust in regular staff members, this has resulted in her being calmer and less afraid.
The staff and management have always gone the extra mile for my mother which is greatly appreciated by all the family, as access to seeing relatives has been very difficult, due to the home’s own, yet understandable, procedures to prevent Covid outbreaks within the home.
The home regularly updates us regarding Mum's health, wellbeing and any needs. They also provide weekly newsletters and Zoom meetings for relatives, which are very helpful.

The location of Devonshire House is both beautiful and tranquil but we would recommend the care home because of the most primary of all reasons and that is the high quality of the staff.

Mum has been at Devonshire House now for a year, having initially come for a short respite stay following a stay in hospital. At 94, she was "coping well at home and had no intention of ever going into a care home".
One year on and Mum is content and well...she cannot say enough about how caring and friendly all the staff are, from cleaners to maintenance, management and of course carers. There is always time for a little chat if she wants it and peace and quiet if not. She is treated with respect and concern at all times that I have witnessed interactions. Of course, there are niggles sometimes, that`s life, but any concerns are always received and dealt with professionally. Mum smiles and laughs more than I have seen in a long time... relieved of the struggle to cope, she is supported to manage her own life rather than `life being taken over by professionals, and as her family, we can enjoy visiting her, rather than worry.

It was Mum's decision to stay, which for me, says it all.

My father has been at Devonshire House for just over a year, following several falls which resulted in him being unsafe to live by himself. In addition to this, I noticed that his memory had started to deteriorate. Finding a good care home during the height of the pandemic was not straightforward as tours were quite sensibly put on hold. However, Devonshire House is close to my home and I knew of several people who had lived there and relatives happy with their care. The manager and staff were very welcoming and helpful from my initial visit to discuss Dad's needs. He went straight there from the hospital and settled in quite quickly. The staff are all very friendly and my dad is extremely well cared for. I visit weekly now and the staff feel like friends. There is a lovely atmosphere as soon as the front door is opened by the staff. Communication is good and the weekly newsletters and regular relatives Zoom meetings are much appreciated.

Thank you to every member of staff, you are amazing!

My sister and I found it really hard to make the decision for our aunt to move into permanent care, even when she wasn’t able to stay at home safely due to her risk of wandering. The thought of us looking into care felt very daunting. However, we made an appointment to look at Devonshire House. We both felt really impressed by the home's homely and clean environment. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and spent quality time with residents, such as activities. The home had such a nice calm and relaxed atmosphere. We both felt such a sense of relief that we had found somewhere nice for our aunt.
My aunt has now been a resident since September. She appears contented and well looked after. She has a lovely room with her own en-suite bathroom. Staff have always welcomed us.

We feel very lucky that we have found such a lovely care home.
