Mum spent exactly four years at Devonshire House. The building and gardens are beautiful but also the care Mum received was been second to none. The staff clearly care about the residents and have been really helpful to me too, keeping me informed about Mum’s health issues. The staff even arranged
a Zoom 90th birthday party for Mum during lockdown so that her whole family could celebrate with her. It was lovely to see her looking so happy and well cared for. During her last illness, the staff were amazingly supportive both to her and me - I can’t thank them enough.
Reply from Stuart Coleman, Manager at Devonshire HouseThank you for your wonderful review of Devonshire House and it was our pleasure to help your mother celebrate her 90th birthday. We work hard to ensure residents enjoy our home and gardens and I will pass your lovely feedback to our team.

Mum was allocated to this care home in May 2020, she, unfortunately, died in October. The manager and staff here are outstanding in terms of commitment, care, wellbeing and comfort. She honestly could not have found better care anywhere. Although we hoped she would be there for a few more years it was
not to be, her end of life care was truly remarkable. I cannot thank the whole team enough.
Reply from Stuart Coleman, Manager at Devonshire HouseThank you for taking the time to provide feedback on Devonshire House. I will make sure our staff are aware of your kind compliments and we are very pleased that you feel our care was outstanding.

My grandmother was very happy in her last five months of her life in Devonshire House. Nothing was too much trouble for the team to make my nan comfortable. Always looked smart and tidy, fed well and always encouraged her to have mealtimes in the dining room. Sadly she passed away in October last year
and I can honestly say the care, respect and dignity they gave my nan were on another level and for this, I will be forever grateful. Thank you.
Reply from Stuart Coleman, Manager at Devonshire HouseThank you for taking the time to review Devonshire House. It was our pleasure to care for your nan and I will ensure that our team are aware of your lovely feedback.

Our dear friend resided at Devonshire House for his last 2 and a half years. He was very well cared for and the staff team gained his confidence going the 'extra mile' to ensure he was comfortable and treated with compassion. A private person with complex health needs who had lived on his own for many
years the move to a care home was a difficult decision but turned out to be a blessing for which he was and we are most grateful. Our warm thanks to all the team for their expertise, understanding and loving care. We wish the 'new' manager well with plans to enhance the offering for the future at Devonshire House.

I have found the staff of Devonshire House very professional and very respectful towards my mum. They listen and support me when I have any queries concerning my mum. During the Covid-19 lockdown of the home, I have had regular video calls and telephone calls and now we can enjoy socially distanced
garden visits. With the support of the carers, this has made life for Mum easier. She is not so anxious and she relaxes and enjoys our visits. The staff make sure that Mum is comfortable during the hot weather, seated under a parasol, wearing suncream and when it was chilly, a blanket over her.
Reply from Stuart Coleman, Manager at Devonshire HouseThank you for your lovely feedback, which we will ensure is passed on. It’s been our pleasure to facilitate socially distanced garden visits and video calls with your mum and we are pleased that she is happy with us.

Very good indeed. The staff are kind and thoughtful and take the trouble to understand the character and requirements of each individual resident. They are sympathetic to and understanding of the needs of family members. Overall care and activities very well-tailored to those suffering from dementia/Alzheimers.

The staff are unfailingly cheerful, helpful and kind. They go above and beyond what they need to do to make both residents and their families feel at home and very welcome. The building feels homely with the many different rooms and the "log" stoves in winter. The conservatory is a lovely light environment
even on damp days and the grounds are beautiful.

My mum has been a resident since Jan 7th. The care she has received has been amazing. Mum has been able to settle really easily. The staff have all been brilliant, nothing is too much trouble. All of the staff including ancillary and managerial just want the residents to be happy and safe. Our family
have been very reassured that the difficult decision to consider residential care for our mum is the correct one. We cannot thank you all enough for your patience and support.

My mother-in-law has been with you for three years and she has always received caring and attentive friendly service from your staff and when she's had falls they have responded quickly and efficiently. My father moved in two days ago and the staff have made him feel welcome and are kindly helping him
to settle in.
The food looks pleasant.

My father spent just two weeks in the Ryder Wing of Devonshire House in January 2017, where he died. But even in that brief spell, he was treated superbly and with great sensitivity. My mother has been a resident on the other side of the house for nearly three years and she has been looked after extremely
well. She has a lovely room, in a welcoming environment and all the staff have attended to her needs day-by-day with great skill, patience and care and they have coped with crises admirably.

My father was in Devonshire House for some 2 years. He was 94 when admitted. He was deaf, had lost the use of his legs, was doubly incontinent and had mild dementia. I visited him every week.

My father was happy and was impressed by the way that he was looked after. He became fond of the staff and

they of him.

I was impressed by the home and the kindness and patience of the staff. My father died shortly before Christmas 2018.

Firstly understand that I have no experience of care homes other than Devonshire House. However, I am really pleased with the caring, smiling, helpful staff at this care home.
I have noticed that many of the residents have awkward traits and yet the staff always cope with a smile. Well done.
The
fact that I have not entered a score on Value for Money or Activities is because I have no comparative data.

Mum has a nice room (spacious) likes the care staff and is fairly settled, however she gets very bored, is unstimulated and there is little community atmosphere. Devonshire House should have a receptionist to avoid visitors waiting for ages to be let in and to improve security. The individual physical
and psychological needs of residents should be catered for better with suitable activities. There should be more community links with local schools, businesses, shops and the Church.
Reply from Karen Curle, Manager at Devonshire HouseThank you for taking the time to review Devonshire House and we are pleased that you are likely to recommend us. We are keen to resolve the issues that you have raised and have tried to contact you in this respect. Please could you contact Devonshire House directly to discuss these in further detail.

We are currently engaging with our local community and have a number activities planned with our residents for the festive period and going forward. We have a receptionist in post and are confident in our security at Devonshire House. We encourage all our residents to participate in our wide range of activities however we respect their wishes if they do not wish to take part. We will continue to review our activities to ensure that these are enjoyed by as many of our residents as possible.

It is a pleasure to visit Devonshire house. At last, I was able to enter - using a code. Several times in the past I had to wait quite a while to get in and often couldn't find a staff member to let me out. Not so today. Superbly clean and attractive.
All staff look very professional in uniform, they
are happy and relaxed and engaging very positively with residents/visitors.
Sadly, my friend is bored. Would like musical activities in the evenings. (He dislikes TV and modern music).

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.802)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.802) out of 10 for Devonshire House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.802 for Devonshire House is calculated as follows: ( (205 Excellents x 5) + (35 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 247 Ratings = 4.802
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Devonshire House is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 69 registered maximum number of service users is 13.8, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
