Reviews

7.5 Mayflower Care Home has a Review Score of 7.5 (7.478)

The Review Score of 7.5 (maximum of 10) for Mayflower Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 11 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Mayflower Care Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.1 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.412 for Mayflower Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (76 Excellents x 5) + (38 Goods x 4) + (13 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 131 Ratings = 4.412

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 3.066 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Mayflower Care Home is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 = 3

    2. Target of 15.2 positive Reviews (76 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 1 Reviews ÷ 15.2 Target = 0.066

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

My Stepfather has always been a challenge to care for over the last 20 years. Since his failing physical health in the last eighteen months, he has required two stays in the Mayflower. The staff at the Mayflower have shown a commitment to care at every level, with an ability to deliver top-quality care in challenging environments. I hope that they all get recognition for the good things they do day in day out well done.

The staff are very helpful always, sometimes they are busy and cannot always get to people who need to go to the toilet and they may have to wait. I think the staff are under a lot of pressure and maybe more staff are needed.
The food may I say is excellent.
The nurses provide the care necessary for each individual's needs.

The activities are usually every afternoon which is a good thing and keeps the residents on their toes. I have no worries, my relative is safe.

Being a purpose built facility, it is of a good standard. Also, the food is of a reasonably high quality. Staffing is a major issue although the staff work very hard, there is very rarely enough of them to allow them to provide the standard of care that would be expected considering the high level of fees charged. A reasonable array of activities are available. On occasion, it has been noted that dignity could be observed better. On the whole, I think this could be a good home if management were improved and the high turnover of staff was addressed, allowing better continuity of care.

Josh Wright, Marketing Assistant at Mayflower Care Home responded to this review on 15 Sep 2016:

Your feedback has been noted and we respect this as your personal opinion. We agree that all of our staff do work very hard and we have an open door policy for all concerns, the Manager or the On-Call Management Team would be happy to discuss your concerns if raised appropriately.

I have visited my friend a number of times at the home. The staff who are friendly and polite have a great relationship with those they look after and there is a real sense of community. I can't speak highly enough of The Manager and her team.

Overall, the level of care given to my mother has been excellent. She settled in much quicker than I expected, which is testament in itself to the care given to her by the staff. Medical care is prompt if you use the homes retained Dr service. Also like the ease of access via a fob which can be obtained from reception.

When the hard working staff are on duty they offer an outstanding service, however some members of staff are not as dedicated as others which lets the home down and puts residents at risk. The management are extremely professional and dedicated and try their hardest to keep control of the difficult staffing situation. The cleaners try their hardest to keep the home clean which is extremely difficult due to the residents accidents/incontinence but now that the building is 5 years old now repair work needs to be kept on top of.

My mother has been in this home for 3 and a half years. This home is arranged over 3 floors. The top being for those with more demanding behaviour. She started on the bottom floor and was moved to the second as her dementia got worse. One of the reasons we chose this home was we knew she would not need to be moved to another home should this happen. We have been very pleased with her care.
She remains in bed at all times and in all this time has never had bed sores. A doctor or practice nurse visits regularly, as does a consultant from the local hospital (one a month). We are always told of any changes in her medication etc. She is on a purée diet which is always served nicely on her plate. Yoghurt's plus snacks can be obtained between meals.
Her clothes are well laundered and changed daily or more often if needed. Staff are always very pleasant and helpful. Entertainment is good with a lot of effort put in by the staff. Christmas decorations were lovely this year - just wish my mother was able to enjoy them.
Recently we have noticed they have had a lot of their long-term carers leave to be replaced by new ones, who do not always stay long. This is a shame as you build up a good relationship with them, which is really nice when visiting on a regular basis. I'm sure this must be a thing in so many homes though.

I have found all the staff very helpful and informative with regard to mums care. All levels of staff always happy to talk about anything relevant to my mum, from making a cup of tea to personal care, nothing is a problem. As a family we spent a lot of time looking for a care home and think we made the right choice in the Mayflower.

My father has moved to the Sapphire unit from a residential home as his nursing and psychiatric needs have increased. I'm very happy with his care so far at The Mayflower. The staff are really friendly and treat all the residents kindly and with respect. They give them the freedom to be themselves, even when their version of reality is very confused. I'm impressed with their record keeping and they always keep me informed of everything that is happening with my father in between my visits. The food is healthy and appetising. My father is too confused to engage in most activities, but the Christmas party entertainment was fantastic and enjoyed by all.
