Mayflower Care Home is a modern, purpose-built specialist dementia care home in a residential area of Northfleet, near Gravesend.

Each resident is living with some form of dementia including more complex symptoms, and the home’s dedicated and highly professional staff provide secure, compassionate and person-centred residential, nursing and palliative care. Mayflower also offers short-term care for people who need some looking after following a hospital stay, or whose families or carers are not available.

Mayflower combines all the comforts of home with thoroughly modern facilities, as well as a secure and landscaped garden for residents to enjoy. The home has 76 spacious and comfortably furnished ensuite bedrooms spread over three floors. Each room is equipped with TV, a nurse call system and an adjustable automatic bed. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the home.

Residents are encouraged to personalise their room with pictures, family photographs and ornaments of their choice.   

There is lift access to all floors and both the home and garden are fully wheelchair accessible. Each floor has its own dining room and lounge where residents can gather for meals, group activities or socialise. As a homely and relaxed feel is important, the lounges can be arranged to accommodate residents who prefer a quiet space at times. There is also a dedicated on-site hair salon that provides regular services to residents.

The landscaped garden and patio have been carefully designed to offer plenty of comfortable
seating areas for residents and guests to relax and enjoy pleasant weather. The garden is fully secure, with keypad access.

My mother has been in this home for 3 and a half years. This home is arranged over 3 floors. The top being for those with more demanding behaviour. She started on the bottom floor and was moved to the second as her dementia got worse. One of the reasons we chose this home was we knew she would not need
to be moved to another home should this happen. We have been very pleased with her care.
She remains in bed at all times and in all this time has never had bed sores. A doctor or practice nurse visits regularly, as does a consultant from the local hospital (one a month). We are always told of any changes in her medication etc. She is on a purée diet which is always served nicely on her plate. Yoghurt's plus snacks can be obtained between meals.
Her clothes are well laundered and changed daily or more often if needed. Staff are always very pleasant and helpful. Entertainment is good with a lot of effort put in by the staff. Christmas decorations were lovely this year - just wish my mother was able to enjoy them.
Recently we have noticed they have had a lot of their long-term carers leave to be replaced by new ones, who do not always stay long. This is a shame as you build up a good relationship with them, which is really nice when visiting on a regular basis. I'm sure this must be a thing in so many homes though.

I have found all the staff very helpful and informative with regard to mums care. All levels of staff always happy to talk about anything relevant to my mum, from making a cup of tea to personal care, nothing is a problem. As a family we spent a lot of time looking for a care home and think we made
the right choice in the Mayflower.

My father has moved to the Sapphire unit from a residential home as his nursing and psychiatric needs have increased. I'm very happy with his care so far at The Mayflower. The staff are really friendly and treat all the residents kindly and with respect. They give them the freedom to be themselves,
even when their version of reality is very confused. I'm impressed with their record keeping and they always keep me informed of everything that is happening with my father in between my visits. The food is healthy and appetising. My father is too confused to engage in most activities, but the Christmas party entertainment was fantastic and enjoyed by all.

A clean and homely place, wonderful staff who are always happy to help. The Manager is approachable and really cares and I was really pleased that she took time to talk us. My Nan is really happy here!
