My husband has been in Mayflower Care Home for more than two years now, and throughout the whole time, his care has been very good. The staff are so very caring and supportive both to my husband and to myself. Recently he had a spell of time in hospital and on his return he was welcomed so warmly. Although
he is now no longer able to function as he did before being hospitalised, the staff still are so attentive and encouraging towards him.
Both my husband and I are treated by the staff as part of the Mayflower family, and I cannot thank them enough for everything they do.

My husband was admitted to Mayflower as an assessment patient by the NHS. He has advanced dementia and he had fractured his ankle in a fall at home. After a period of time he was admitted to Mayflower.
He settled in very well and my son and I when we visited him found him happy and settled. The staff
were caring not only to my husband but also to us. They were patient with him and understood his needs even when he was sometimes stubborn about their trying to help him. Our only concern was that he had been placed so from his home and we could not visit him as often as we could have wished.

My wife has vascular dementia, she was admitted to to the care home in March 2024. Most of the staff who answer the phone are rude (when they answer!). She's been assaulted by another patient twice and all they do is try and cover it up, well I'm not buying it. Picked her up the other day and there
was urine in her toilet on the floor! So please please please avoid it at all costs!
Reply from Claudia Ramsamy, Registered Manager at Mayflower Care HomeWe are concerned to hear that you are unhappy about aspects of your wife's care. We take the safety and wellbeing of our residents very seriously and, as part of that, we welcome feedback and use this to improve our care. We are always fully transparent with our residents, their families, our professional colleagues and the relevant authorities. All incidents and complaints are thoroughly and vigorously investigated, as well as being reported to CQC and the LA. We apologise if sometimes you have been unable to get through to us. Of course, there may be times when staff are busy dealing with residents, which takes priority over answering the phone! We have taken on board your comments and you will receive a full response shortly. If you would like to meet for further discussion, please contact me. The staff kept in communication when waiting for the room and when available, stressful and upsetting transition but the staff was caring and supportive. Better comms on what to expect or how it works (FAQs) would be helpful e.g. getting in and out fob, app to see updates etc. as had to learn along
the way and advise others. Staff support and care were excellent for Mum and the family, really got to know her and what she needs e.g. outings and exercise. Offer advice, listen to concerns and make improvements (actions, not just words) whilst giving time/respect for us to decide. Key consistent staff, invaluable, great trust in them doing the best for Mum. Mum feels comfortable and safe. Love how the home has life, noise, activity and a positive atmosphere, not just sterile and a quiet environment. Great team, good leadership with real care.

The staff are friendly, and the food is of good quality.
Staff understand the complexities of dementia and treat residents with kindness and respect.
My father had lost significant weight before going to the Mayflower but has put on weight ever since due to the high standard of food.

I visit my cousin regularly and have never had any need to question her nursing/ care in any shape or form.
No matter how naughty my cousin is because of her dementia, the staff always show her the utmost decency, respect and diligence, offering her top quality nursing and care.
I feel so lucky that
my cousin is in a care home that cares so much for its residents no matter what difficulties they come across the care stays high. I show my gratitude willingly and often, apologising for bad mouthing or worse from my cousin if she is naughty, but the staff always tell me there is no need apologising because they all love my cousin.
The residents are extremely well fed according to their needs and live in an environment protecting and assuring them if and when they get agitated as they often do.
I don’t take anything for granted as my cousin deserves the best care, and she gets it.
Thank you Mayflower Care Home.

My dad is at Mayflower Care Home and has aggressive behaviour at times, they have welcomed my dad and he is treated how l would treat him.
The staff are friendly and also welcoming for family and understand both sides of care from family but do best for the resident.
Dad got refused from 19 homes
and for me, l haven’t looked back, l am happy where Dad is, he is clean he always has his own clothes on, unlike other places.
I would recommend this care facility due to care of the resident and also the ongoing update of information which l get daily.

This nursing care home is the only one in the Gravesend/Dartford/Medway area that is able to help care for my dad. He has Alzimers with sundowners and is having a bad journey. Two other 'care homes' couldn't cope with him even though assessments were done and it said dementia on the door!
Mayflower
has an amazing team. Well trained, not scared to be involved with residents and really want the best for them. Food and drink are plentiful.
Dad's engaged with everything they do and even though I thought I'd never see my dad of old again - they've found him and brought him back.
100% appreciate and trust this place with my best friend. It may cost a bit more than others, but they deserve it for everything they go through and for having carers who see past the dementia to the loving humans their residents are. Love and respect to one and all who work there.
Reply from Nicola Bundock, Acting Manager at Mayflower Care HomeThank you for your kind review. I am glad that we have been able to settle your dad into the home. The care team always strive to do the best for all residents in the home. At Mayflower, we believe in looking after the person as an individual the diagnosis does not define that person.

also complying with NHS guidelines.

All my family are very pleased with the care that my mum receives in Diamond Unit. My mum was extremely frail when she was discharged to Mayflower via hospital in August 2020. However, since then my mum has been thriving; this is due to the fantastic care and wholesome food that she receives and the
calm and well-led surroundings that she resides in. The staff are always kind and compassionate towards my mum and they are friendly and welcoming towards the family.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.657)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.657) out of 10 for Mayflower Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 30 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.657 for Mayflower Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (256 Excellents x 5) + (67 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (8 Poors x 2) + (3 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 341 Ratings = 4.657
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Mayflower Care Home is based on 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 76 registered maximum number of service users is 15.2, which has been reached with 29 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
