I think that Lakeside is a wonderful care home for my Mum. However, I am very concerned that my Mum does not have a jug of water by her at all times. The jug is taken away for washing in the morning and doesn't reappear until later in the day. My Mum has told me that sometimes it doesn't come back until
2 pm. This is a real concern to me and I have mentioned it to the staff but I've not seen this sorted yet.
Will this problem be addressed? Thank you.

Lakeside is a lovely care home. We have needed to raise some issues around room cleanliness, the menu and being given a choice, questioning a delay in attention from a Doctor and access to activities which we learned afterwards were cancelled. Staff are quick to address any issues and my Grandmother
does say that she is happy at Lakeside. For these reasons, I would recommend Lakeside.

No major concerns. My mother seems to be well cared for.
A system to let us know if a letter arrives for her would be useful. It would be easy to miss an important appointment.

There are sometimes not enough staff on duty which leads to insufficient care for individuals.
The food can be variable and I feel that more could be spent to provide a more interesting diet.

My wife has been a resident since 11th June 2012.
She suffers from vascular dementia, type 2 diabetes and incontinence.
Her dementia increasingly takes the form of bad temper and threats to staff, her incontinence has recently got worse.
The staff treat her with patience and sympathy, the accommodation
is good and she appears to like the food provided.
She has recently put on weight where previously it has been controlled.
Communication between the care home and myself is not as good as it should be.

My mum moved her in February and was made to feel welcome straight away. The staff were very friendly and helped her to settle into her new surroundings quite quickly.
Staff are polite and communicate well with mum and the family when necessary. We are happy we chose Lakeside, they seem to provide
the correct care and support that mum needs to ensure a happy and safe environment.

My dad has only been in Lakeside for 6 weeks but he is clearly safe, clean, shaven and smart at all times.
The carers are all busy, professional and caring for the residents. They are also friendly and easy to approach.
The is kept very clean and tidy and I notice that staff are keen to ensure belongings
are returned to the resident.
Overall we are very pleased with the service.

The review was informative and gave an up to date assessment of mum's condition and progress. Although she's been advised on a move upstairs we were given a good choice of rooms.

My mother was only at Lakeside for less than 2 months following a rapid decline in her condition. During her short stay, she settled in really well, entertaining the wonderful carers with her stories of a colourful life. She was lovingly looked after and we, as her family looked forward to visiting
her. She was always clean, her room tidy and always well looked after. She even complimented them on their food.
Mum and ourselves were always treated with respect and compassion.
Our only regret is that she was not with the home longer.

My Mum was at Lakeside only a short while but the care she received was excellent. The kindness and consideration were evident and they helped my Mum walk better and interact more than she had done at home, for this the family were very grateful. They were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble,
even making sure her nails were well polished and painted! The staff were so welcoming and you could just tell they really enjoyed their jobs. The whole atmosphere was friendly and comforting.

Lakeside is very welcoming. The staff are outstanding and truly care about mum. We know mum is safe and well looked after and we are reassured every time we leave her. The activities at the home are outstanding - mum used to enjoy them before she deteriorated. The home has a lovely atmosphere and the
staff are very approachable.
They genuinely care about mum. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Lakeside to anyone who needs to put their loved one in a care home.

Most days my father receives excellent care and support from the regular carers working at B&M Care. Sometimes I find the agency staff are not really qualified/experienced in dealing with this special group. Considering how much we pay for my dad's care I expect better quality food and some new bedding
please!
And if it's not raining take him outside.

My mother who is in her 80's suffers from moderate dementia and has been resident here for 9 months. This is a well-run home with clean, light spacious rooms and good communal areas. Windows are often open so bad smells are limited. The staff seem very dedicated and caring and always welcome family
visitors and whilst there have been new staff members there is a core of long standing staff who hold senior positions and look after the residents very well.

Meals are good and varied, although my mother doesn't eat much, they do try to encourage her to eat and they quickly worked out she is very keen on puddings so is often offered seconds!!

There is a timetable of monthly activities including exercises, quizzes, bingo, day trips out in a mini bus to cafes and supermarkets and lots of crafting and they cater for the varied needs of the residents well. Having had experience of 3 other care homes for elderly relatives, this one is by far the best we have used and I would recommend.

Fantastic newly build premises with beautiful gardens. Always clean and odour free. Solid staff team who genuinely care about the residents. Very experienced manager who supports the staff and residents well. The only problem my father ever reported was he didn't like some of the meals. Doctors visit
twice weekly and district nurse daily. Chiropodist and hairdressers also visit regularly. Relatives and friends always welcome to visit and staff very good about keeping relatives updated abut the welfare of residents.

Current Review Score: 8.0 (7.986)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.0 (7.986) out of 10 for Lakeside Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.1 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.917 for Lakeside Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (11 Excellents x 5) + (1 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 12 Ratings = 4.917
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.069 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Lakeside Care Home is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 72 registered maximum number of service users is 14.4. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 14.4 = 0.069
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
