When my auntie moved in last year, we used to find that her clothes had gone missing and that she would be wearing other people's clothes. This was very upsetting and not a good start.

Her health has deteriorated and she has been in hospital a few times.
The first week she fell in the garden early

in the morning while staff were outside having a smoke. There have been times when she has gone into hospital without a member of staff. It's very important that she has someone with her who knows her as she has dementia.

There have also been times when these hospital visits have not been necessary and she ends up in hospital for days, all because she needs to be assessed at the home and they take days to go out and assess her in hospital.

This is very upsetting and distressing for her and her family.

Reply from Claire Smith, Office Manager at Brinnington Hall

Many thanks for taking the time to review Brinnington Hall. At Ideal Care Homes we appreciate any feedback about the service we provide.
We encourage all visitors and residents to voice any concerns to the management team so that we are able to deal with these concerns efficiently once we are made aware of them.

Although we always strive to provide an escort for hospital visits, unfortunately, there are times when this is not possible for the sake of maintaining the safety of our residents in the home and where we believe that the safety of our residents would be compromised by sending a member of staff, we would not be in a position to offer this. We are aware that when a resident is required to go into hospital, that their care is passed over to medically trained health professionals who are qualified and trained to deal with dementia. They are given full information about the resident to aid them in caring for them as we would.

With regards to unnecessary hospital admissions, where we believe there to be an acute medical concern, we would always seek the relevant medical advice, which can sometimes lead to a decision made by the paramedic or doctor for hospital admission which is out of our control. As we are not a nursing home, we are not qualified to decide who qualifies for admission and who doesn’t and therefore we will continue to seek and follow the advice given to us.

In relation to carrying out assessments following an admission to hospital, we will always do this at the earliest opportunity when we receive information from the hospital that this is required. We are not able to conduct these assessments over the weekend period as this would compromise the safety of the home and so will always be conducted at the earliest convenience the following Monday.

Please do not hesitate to call into the home to discuss your concerns further should you wish to do so.

I come into Brinnington Hall on Tuesday every week to visit a friend.

I found everyone to be pleasant, the home seems well-run and always clean.

All the staff are very pleasant and hardworking too.

I have been visiting for around six months and Brinnington Hall is by far the best, mainly because

of the staff who are wonderful. They seem to love what they do and love the residents.

Mum has been very well cared for and there is always a very happy atmosphere with plenty of activities and entertainment. The food is excellent and all the staff help to create a warm, homely atmosphere. As well as making sure her medication and hygiene standards are kept up.

The staff at Brinnington Hall are lovely and they work hard to support residents, many of whom have challenging forms of dementia.
They preserve people's dignity and privacy.
I'm slightly worried by the fact that I am admitted without any check of who I am or who I'm visiting.
I'm disappointed that
my mother-in-law has been without her spectacles on visits I made twice recently.
She can hardly see without them so it matters.

My mother came into Brinnington Hall directly from hospital for a 4-week respite care plan to get her up and running with the aim of returning to her home. She loved it so much she decided to stay there. She recovered well and was very well looked after by all the staff. The standard of the home and
staff are very impressive. Visitors are very welcome and included her favourite Alfie the dog (who also loves the visit and attention from guests and staff). On behalf of all my family, thank you very much. My mother is much better, happier and safe thanks to all the staff at Brinnington Hall.

Generally very good. But I am disappointed that my sister who is 92, having had a suspected heart attack, was allowed to go to hospital in an ambulance at night on her own, without a member of staff going with her.

I attended Chinese pop-up restaurant for Chinese New Year. If I didn't know better, I wouldn't have thought I was in a care home. The bar was like a Chinese restaurant, the food was perfect as was the entertainment. The artist and backing dancers were so entertaining I really enjoyed it.
One lady was
so entertaining with her dancing, she is such a bubbly girl and she made the night. The chefs made Brinnington Hall a night for me to remember.
As for all staff at Brinnington Hall, they are like one big happy family looking after residents like their families. Thank you. Couldn't ask for a better care home.

We attend a pop-up evening for the Chinese New Year. I can only say the effort that the manager and team put into the evening was outstanding and our mum thoroughly enjoyed herself. We were served an excellent meal by the managers and the wine and bubbly flowed. We had a singer and joined in the dancing
- can't wait for the next one!

Thank you to all concerned.

Mum moved into Brinnington Hall in November 2016. She had been living in a care home which was unable to meet her needs. The caring staff and management at Brinnington have treated her with kindness and patience and have managed to persuade her to sleep during the night and be up and dressed during
the day which has been quite a challenge as she was refusing to even get out of bed. We can see that she is beginning to settle. Mum is not a good eater and we like the fact that we are encouraged to make her a cup of tea during our visits and eat toast and biscuits as needed.

A friend of mine has recently gone to stay in the above home. In the short period she has been there, I have found the staff friendly and helpful. The environment is lovely. There is an air of calmness in the building. All the staff from the domestics, receptionists, kitchen and caring staff seem to
have a welcoming attitude whenever you meet them.
I would only pass one negative comment - The design of the uniforms is good - but they are very drab!! Hope you will change the colour one day? (so not really a big complaint - as the care they provide for outweighs this minor thing)

Always been pleased with the care that Mum receives overall. There have been constant problems with the laundry service but since a new manager was appointed just over a month ago, this service has improved enormously. Staff treat residents with affection and dignity and do all they can to create a
safe and homely environment. Food is of good quality too.

I find all the staff at Brinnington Hall friendly, caring and extremely good with the elderly residents. Over the past four years (my mother was one of the original residents) Many residents have changed but the staff still remember them and reminisce which is lovely. I think the staff have far too
much paperwork to do and perhaps in future this could be done on a tablet which I think would give them more time for the residents.

My mum arrived at Brinnington Hall on the 22nd December, from her temporary care home. The family being myself, my husband and my brother had visited previous to her arriving. We could not fault it, we were made to feel very comfortable, given a bit of a tour and plenty of advice about the home. We
loved everything about it, was modern, very spacious, friendly, clean, lovely rooms with en-suite, we were made to feel very welcome. We instantly new it was the right decision to make this home a permanent place of residence for our mum which the whole family are very happy about. We would not hesitate to recommend Brinnington Hall as a good choice.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.126)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.126) out of 10 for Brinnington Hall is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.729 for Brinnington Hall is calculated as follows: ( (72 Excellents x 5) + (22 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 96 Ratings = 4.729
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.397 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Brinnington Hall is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 67 registered maximum number of service users is 13.4. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 13.4 = 0.597
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
