I find all the staff cheerful and helpful. The carers are efficient and well trained and always have the safety and comfort of the residents in mind.
The accomodation is always comfortable and clean and the facilities are first class. I feels my wife is well cared for and treated with dignity, which
is very important, and I do not have any fears for her safety and comfort at any time.

Service could be improved with better communication between the sub-teams ie nursing, caring and events teams. In general staff are very caring and capable, but most would benefit from better training and support. We were told at 1st visit dementia and non dementia residents would be separated. This
seems not to be the case.
Reply from Naita-Mirabela Nedea, The Orangery Home Manager at The Orangery Nursing HomeThank you for your feedback. I am disappointed that I was unable to rectify your concerns at the time. We are devoted to improving our services and we will be looking into all the areas mentioned to make improvements where necessary moving forward.

My mother was sent to The Orangery by the NHS for palliative care. This care home was 5 minutes walk away from her home, so my father could visit every day.
The staff always made you feel welcome. The care they gave was excellent. I couldn't thank them all enough from the cleaners to managers.

Overall Experience 3.0 out of 5
The care at The Orangery Nursing Home has, in the past, been excellent but recent alterations to the building have led to a reduction in care and residents' well-being. Prior to the changes, there was a large resident's lounge/dining area upstairs for those with dementia, with a nurse's office at one
end and a rest area for carers at the other, which allowed for targeted care for all.
Unfortunately, the lounge/diner has been converted into extra bedrooms and the number of carers upstairs has been reduced from 5 to 4, rather than increased to, say 6, to compensate for the extra residents and the additional work in moving residents downstairs and looking after them there.
The upshot is that the carers, who are all excellent, are overworked and upstairs residents are either left in bed until late in the morning or even lunchtime or left to wander the corridors and in and out of other residents' rooms. This obviously causes distress and increases the risks of falls and injury.

Although my mother only stayed at the Orangery for a short time, the level of respect and dignity she was shown was second to none.
The staff were truly amazing in every role.
The family were made to feel welcome on each visit, I spent many hours at the home and at no time did the standards drop.
Anyone
anxious about having to put a loved one into a care home should really consider The Orangery.

My mother was recently admitted to The Orangery Nursing Home as an end-of-life client and I could not have wished for more for her. The care she received at all times both day and night was exemplary, their kindness extending to us as a family.
The home is a happy peaceful place, with staff that show
dignity and respect.
My mother always looked well cared for and told me they 'made her feel safe'.
I will be forever grateful to the whole team for the outstanding care they gave at the hardest time.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.287)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.287) out of 10 for The Orangery Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 12 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.537 for The Orangery Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (94 Excellents x 5) + (26 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 136 Ratings = 4.537
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.75 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Orangery Nursing Home is based on 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.75
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 10 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
