I have been very happy with the care my husband is having at The Orangery Nursing Home. All the staff are very caring and helpful, not only to my husband, but to me and other family members and visitors. There is a very happy, friendly atmosphere among everybody and it is always clean and well-run.
There are activities most days. I can thoroughly recommend The Orangery to anyone who is looking for a care home.

My mum has been at The Orangery Nursing Home for almost two years and has always received the best care despite her increasing dementia and challenges relating to it. The staff are always patient and caring towards Mum and nothing is too much trouble. The nursing staff keep me updated on any health
issues and treatment going forward. The management and admin staff are amazing and always happy to spend time listening to any worries about Mum's dementia and offering solutions to deal with them. There are plenty of daily activities to keep the residents entertained and occupied. We as a family are very happy with the care at The Orangery.
Reply from Nicky Harrington, The Orangery Home Manager at The Orangery Nursing HomeThank you, it is brilliant to hear such positive words for our care team and home. We really appreciate the feedback and are always happy to discuss individual needs for our residents and want to provide the best quality service and home to everyone.
I will pass this on to our care team, who I am certain will be very proud to hear such wonderful feedback for their hard work.
Kind regards,
Nicky.

My aunt arrived here around six to eight weeks ago. She loves it here. I can see that my aunt is very happy here. She has and continues to be so very well cared for and looked after by the staff who are so kind, so caring and so very friendly. They all do a great job looking after her and us visitors
too. I am always made very welcome every time I visit.
The building is beautiful, it is kept exceptionally clean but it also has a very homely atmosphere too. They have thought of everything to make it feel like home for the residents. It has lovely gardens too.
My aunt always enjoys the food and really enjoys the entertainment and activities that are laid on.
I have had relatives in other care homes in and around the area and I must say from my personal experience this stands out as being the best on all fronts.
Reply from Nicky Harrington, The Orangery Home Manager at The Orangery Nursing HomeThank you! It is lovely to hear your aunt has settled well into our home. We are very lucky to have such wonderful staff and support from our residents and their families. I will pass this positive feedback on to our care team. Many thanks again. Kind regards.

Mum has been a resident for almost six years! Brexit and Covid have been difficult for care homes and The Orangery Nursing Home had to face these challenges too! Staffing appears to be more improved very recently and no longer needing visit appointments makes accessing Mum less regimented! The home
has looked after Mum's needs very well. The staff are friendly and helpful!

The Orangery Nursing Home is a very well-run home, it is spotlessly clean and bright with a lovely atmosphere. The manager and administrator are always friendly and approachable. The level of care is excellent, the staff are well trained and they are caring, patient and kind - nothing is too much trouble.
Although my partner is unable to walk and has advanced dementia, he is included in the activities that are frequently arranged. I am happy and thankful for all the love and care he is given.
Reply from Nicky Harrington, The Orangery Home Manager at The Orangery Nursing HomeThank you for your kind words. It is a pleasure to have such wonderful support from resident families and we are very grateful. I will be certain to pass on the message to the staff at the home.

Made to feel very welcome, come and chat with you and let you join in the activities. They look after you when you are upset. Always offer you refreshments and ask if you want to stay for supper. They let you spend time on your own with your relative in their room, with no rush for you to leave.

A friendly, caring and well run home which I do not hesitate to recommend. My mother moved here from residential care when her needs increased. Since coming to the home her visual appearance and general well being have greatly improved. The care staff are kind and treat my mother as an individual ensuring
she is well presented and even matching her jewellery to go with outfits. The administration and management of the home is also impressive albeit with a human touch.

My mother has been a resident at The Orangery Nursing Home for almost seven years. I have been delighted with the quality of care she receives during the entire period. The clinical and care staff are outstanding, responsive to questions and concerns. Very respectful and patient with residents often
in difficult circumstances, My mother has never had a pressure sore despite being bedfast for extensive periods of time. My only concern, the relatively frequent turnover of the managers. Also the soft diet looks unappetising.

Mum was a resident for such a short time but was cared for with care, compassion and professionalism. As family, despite restrictions due to Covid-19, we felt involved in her care and were also made to feel welcome and very supported, especially during her last days. The staff were always very friendly,
involved in conversations and happily offered us refreshments during our limited visits. We could not have wished for a better ‘end of life’ care for Mum. The treatment she received during her last 24 hours was above and beyond. She didn’t partake in activities but enjoyed the little food she consumed and staff were always willing to offer an alternative if the choice was not suitable.

The Orangery is a lovely clean, warm and bright home.
All the staff I have met are extremely welcoming and have made the visits I have made to my Mother an easy and pleasurable experience.
Their diligence and hard work have transformed my Mother from a scared and ill person to one who is now enjoying
life again.
I cannot thank them enough.

Both my parents moved into The Orangery in March 2018. My mother died in October, after a period of illness during which she became extremely difficult to care for, both physically and emotionally. The staff always looked after her with the utmost care and compassion. My father has advanced dementia;
he too has always been cared for in an appropriate and respectful manner. The Orangery has a genuinely "homely" feel and I have found all the staff from the manager downwards to be genuinely compassionate and caring.

Mum has been a resident here since May 2017. We are very happy with the care she is being given in all areas. The staff are all amazing and also very welcoming to residents visitors.
My only negative is the laundry. Mum has jumpers and cardigans that have shrunk, as they are washed at 60 degrees. Also,
clothes go missing. Her clean clothes are often just put at the bottom of her wardrobe, not even hung up.
Reply from Aurelia, Head Office at The Orangery Nursing HomeThank you very much for taking the time to write this review for us, we really do value any feedback that we receive.

We are very pleased to hear that you are happy with the level of care your Mum is receiving and are sorry to hear about the ruined jumpers. We’ve investigated the issue, and as per our policy we wash clothes in recommended temperatures for different types of clothing, but we cannot always do that if there’s a risk of infection. We always try to explain this matter to Residents and families and we hope that it's understood that our priority is safety for all of our Residents. Regarding clean clothes being left at the bottom of the wardrobe; our staff leaves the damaged clothes that Residents are no longer wearing there, so the relatives can collect them. Please do report any missing clothes or any issues that you’re facing to our Home Manager.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.287)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.287) out of 10 for The Orangery Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 12 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.537 for The Orangery Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (94 Excellents x 5) + (26 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 136 Ratings = 4.537
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.75 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Orangery Nursing Home is based on 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.75
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 10 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
