A lovely building which is furnished to a very good standard. Staff are very helpful and all areas of the home are tidy and well presented.
It is pleasant and always smells lovely and overall very very good. The only negative would be food selection. There could possibly be more selection both for
mains and dessert.
Reply from Clare Sheehan, Care Advisor at Millbrook Care CentreThank you for your review. We value all feedback as this helps us to improve on our service where required. The Millbrook follows the HC-One menus that are set for all homes, and we offer the same as all the other homes including our afternoon homemade lemon drizzle cake. The main menu has two choices however the chef does also cater for any other requests he may receive such as cheese on toast or jacket potatoes. For pudding, there is only one main, however, staff also offer yoghurts, fruit, cheese and biscuits. We are happy to provide alternatives so as to ensure our Residents nutritional needs are met. Please don’t hesitate to liaise with the Home Manager if you have any concerns so that they can be immediately addressed.

Mum stayed for respite care and was very impressed by the standard of her room/facilities although we had to provide our own commode, chair raiser (mums mobility is very poor). She had great things to say about all but one of the staff. Food was excellent. However mum had a fall in the first couple
of days and nobody informed family who visited daily. I was told mum would be walked daily, this didn't happen, she was therefore extremely stiff and found walking difficult once she was home due to being immobile for 11 days.
Reply from Claire Hurworth, Careline Manager at Millbrook Care CentreThank you for sharing your details with us on carehome.co.uk after your Mother’s respite stay. We understand that the commode your Mother owned suited her needs more than the one we had available at the time. If you consider us again for respite care, we will endeavour to have one available in the care home.

With regards to the chair raisers, these are not a standard piece of equipment we have in use. If required, the physiotherapists are involved and raisers are then ordered. This process usually takes some time from requesting the appointment to equipment being in place.

We are very sorry that you were not informed about your Mother’s fall, our policy is to inform relatives and we apologise that staff failed on this occasion to follow this procedure. Your Mother was offered the opportunity to walk daily in her room but declined any assistance to walk elsewhere in the home. Once again thank you for all your comments which have been taken on board.

My Mother was in Millbrook from March 2017 to November 2017, sadly passing away today. I can not praise the staff enough for their kind, caring and professional manner throughout the whole time she was there. They were always keen to inform me of updates, keen to talk to mum and us all the time and
very very caring. A true pleasure to have witnessed such a good care home in operation. Thank you so much for all you did for mum and us.

I need to pass a compliment to an agency lady.
This lady was polite and very friendly towards everyone.
Nothing was a problem for this lady and everything was completed with a smile.
I was very happy to see the residents being treated in a very good, professional manner.

The care provided has made a noticeable difference. Having on site care is a clear improvement in health (fewer hospital visits) and mental well-being, less wandering etc.

Mums care from arriving on Millbrook Care Centre from the hospital has been wonderful. Unfortunately she soon became very poorly and the staff reacted with speed and compassion to ensure that everything she needed was in place. Outstanding care, outstanding staff. Thank you.

Care home has been taken over, since then a very large turnover of staff, lost it's family feel. No one except manager and one senior takes responsibility or aware of what has happened. e.g. my mum's hearing aids lost, 3 other hearing aids found in wash, so its not just a problem for me personally.
I had to ask 5 days running for mum's wheelchair not found until I went to the manager. Cleaning over week sometimes, usually Saturday, does not happen - think it is a cut back. Many staff are very busy record keeping, could be shortened - need looking at, too much time spent on it.
Reply from Meridian, Careline Team at Millbrook Care CentreWe apologise for the fact that the feel of the home has deteriorated recently, and that the standards of cleaning and service has not been to our usual high standards. There has been a new manager at Millbrook from June 2015 who has been employed to raise the standards in the home; this cannot happen without a few changes, and I am confident these are being made as quickly and as sensitively as possible. In addition, we have introduced a twice daily walk round check for the Home Manager to complete to spot issues and deal with them on a timely basis; this will ensure that areas falling short of our high standards are quickly spotted and addressed.

There have been 3 members of staff who have left recently (one retiring) and we have taken the opportunity to recruit more staff to these vacant positions to enable more flexibility to ensure we staff the home every day with Meridian employees. We are confident that as these new staff become fully proficient there will be an even more responsive service and continuity of personnel. In addition, occupancy has increased recently, and we are looking to recruit more staff to ensure there is a suitable level of trained staff working in the home to meet the increased demand for our services.

In relation to the missing hearing aids, we take every effort to be careful with a resident’s possessions, and when something goes missing we take this very seriously to find the missing items and or replace them if they cannot be found. In this instance we found the hearing aids for 2 residents within 3 days.

My wife and I came to the Millbrook Care Centre in October 2011 we settled in fairly quickly, I joined in most of the activities while my wife took things quietly. She died in 2014 and I was helped with all the funeral arrangements, after a short time I visited lots of pub/restaurants and wrote a guide
book which came to the notice of the local paper, BBC radio and television and featured in all three. I've been compiling a weekly quiz for over a year and get on well with the staff and am happy here just a few niggles like not getting my bed changed often enough. I have complete freedom of movement and can go out whenever I want to, I have lots of interests to keep me occupied.
Reply from Meridian, Careline Team at Millbrook Care CentreWe are really pleased that living with us at Millbrook enables you to continue to live a vibrant and fulfilling life; and we are grateful for the time taken to generate a sense of community within the home, it makes a real difference to other residents.
At Meridian we take every complaint or niggle very seriously and use them to learn and find ways to improve our service. To that end we had introduced a twice daily walk round check for the Home Manager to complete to spot issues and deal with them on a timely basis; this will ensure that areas falling short of our high standards are quickly spotted and addressed.

My mother has been in respite care for the last two weeks at Millbrook Care Centre. The experience to date has been amazing. The staff, management and support she has been given surpassed my expectation and more importantly my mum has flourished in the last two weeks. She looks better, brighter, and
has made friends. Her mental health has improved as previously she was isolated and was suffering with psychotic symptoms and these seems to have been suppressed as she is now stimulated. Well done, I wish I had made the move to here previously.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.705)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.705) out of 10 for Millbrook Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 26 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.705 for Millbrook Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (222 Excellents x 5) + (81 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 308 Ratings = 4.705
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Millbrook Care Centre is based on 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 46 registered maximum number of service users is 9.2, which has been reached with 26 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
