Overall Experience

My family and I felt very lucky when we found Millbrook Care Centre after viewing several less suitable homes. The immediate impression is of a very clean, bright and cheerful place. The rooms are nicely furnished, and residents are encouraged to make them homely with their own familiar possessions. The staff have looked after my father in a friendly and caring manner throughout the last eighteen months and always kept us well informed. The team of carers has remained largely unchanged during this time which provides continuity of care and friendship for my father. This has been particularly important in recent weeks as we have been unable to visit during the lockdown and, despite the pressure they are under, they have gone out of their way to reassure and support residents and their families.

I have just spent two weeks here at Millbrook, and the care and friendship shown by the carers and staff have been fantastic.
If I need to come again, I would not hesitate.

Thanks.

My husband suffers from Parkinsons Disease, vascular dementia and Lewy bodies, he was treated with excellent care, dignity and all his needs were considered. He was well cared for, well-fed (level 5 diet), and settled in well. Everything was extremely good, and my husband settled in well as if he was at home. Could do with a few more staff and a bit more mental stimulation instead of just falling asleep in the lounge. Otherwise no complaints.

The home is very well maintained with all areas being frequently cleaned. The management teams and carers keep a well-kept ship but are stretched at shift changes, particularly with the less mobile residents.
The food was good and varied, with the sweets being excellent, salads very good, cooked meals good and improved considerably by a short microwave heat before serving. Breakfast was adequate but non-descript.

Two lounges are available and comfy with good-sized televisions. Entertainment is limited and it makes for the more able-bodied feeling restricted.

We needed emergency respite care for Mum, who suffers from Vascular Dementia and is very frail, as her primary carer, our dad had been taken into hospital. We were really pleased when Mum was able to get a room here as it was very close to home and enabled the family to make regular visits. We could not have asked for a better place. Everyone was so helpful, from the management who went the extra mile to facilitate her stay, to the staff who cared for her in a thoughtful, kind and professional way. The whole building was fresh, clean and welcoming. The resident's bedrooms were large, comfortable and well furnished with walk-in shower rooms. Whilst the communal areas were light, bright and very spacious allowing residents to see their visitors with a degree of privacy and without disruption to other residents. After his release from the hospital, Dad spent a lot of time at the care centre with Mum and was made to feel very welcome and cared for too, giving us peace of mind.

Food was a bit up and down, not always something I liked to eat on the menu. Staff were good and friendly. Lovely room. Activities I tried were OK.

About 12 months ago I was extremely concerned about the management of the home at Millbrook and also the morale of the staff. Since a new manager has been appointed, the home has improved tremendously in all areas.

My only issue is the food. Whilst satisfactory and well prepared, I consider that the nutritional value needs to be reviewed.

We have been completely satisfied with Mum's care, everyone has been kind and compassionate and have treated Mum as a person, with dignity and respect. All her needs have been catered for, from the people doing the laundry, to the cook, the care staff and senior managers. I would not hesitate to recommend Millbrook Care Home.

My wife and I had found that ill health for both of us was becoming very difficult especially with me being my wife's carer. In consultation with our adult children, it was agreed that respite care was needed. A new experience for both of us. It was very difficult and I enjoyed little sleep. Overall I feel we did benefit and our children agree.

I find the care home is one of the best. The feed back from people I have met about other homes has not been good and puts you in a difficult position about finding the appropriate place. I heard about this through family friends.

Everyone is polite, friendly and helpful and caring. We are fed well kept clean and the home is spotless. I myself would recommend it to others.

Millbrook looked after my uncle extremely well over a period of 7 weeks when he was in need of care. The place is immaculate, the staff are friendly, caring and supportive. My uncle made friends with residents and their relatives in what was a lovely atmosphere. Nothing was too much trouble and just before he left, he enjoyed a trip out to Salford Museum. He was sad to leave, but returned home to live independently.

Mum moved, not only form her own home but from an area outside Tameside. It was a traumatic time and could have been a mistake on my part to move her close to my own home in Tameside. Thankfully due to the caring staff, Mum soon adapted and is now thriving, both mentally and physically forging new friendships. The home is clean, well presented and the staff have a positive attitude in caring for the residents. She is encouraged to eat and join in activities, whilst

Mum recently lost her husband and as a result has become more distressed and confused than previously. During this time, Millbrook have done their best to support her, working with her GP and ourselves as relatives. She has been encouraged to eat and to join in with activities. I have often found when I visit that staff are chatting with her to provide comfort.
