Overview

The Review Score of 8.3 (maximum of 10) for Canterbury House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 7 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Canterbury House in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

Detailed Breakdown

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.213 for Canterbury House is calculated as follows: ( (33 Excellents x 5) + (35 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 80 Ratings = 4.213

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.067 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Canterbury House is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 3.75

    2. Target of 12.6 positive Reviews (63 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 4 Reviews ÷ 12.6 Target = 0.317

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

8.3 Canterbury House has a Review Score of 8.3 (8.280) from 7 Reviews

I was impressed as soon as I arrived in the car park.

As I entered Canterbury House I was greeted by happy, welcoming staff who offered to show me to where my friend was sitting.

As I walked through the home I could hear staff and residents talking and laughing. The home had a great atmosphere and is very much a home from home.

I decided to stay for lunch and was offered a choice from the menu. The food was amazing, in fact, I would go as far as saying it’s outstanding.

All the staff are brilliant and would go above and beyond to help me and my friend.

Canterbury House is a beautiful care home and I wouldn’t recommend anywhere else.

Food -
Standard of food has deteriorated this year. Supposed to be a 5* care home but the food is 2* maximum.
Activities -
Residents who do not have any form of dementia are expected to go to the dementia wing of the care home for activities - unacceptable. They should be having different activities.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback regarding Canterbury House. We are committed to providing food that is freshly cooked and of a high standard at each meal service which is varied to ensure good nutritional value. We endeavour to include our residents in the choices that they would like to be added to the menu, with management oversight to ensure this is varied and well balanced.

Very kind and caring organisation - my friend is happy here (as happy as she gets anyway).

Canterbury House is a very special care home. The building, grounds and facilities are very impressive as you walk in the front door you get a sense of wellbeing. My husband has been a resident since June 2016 and each week sees more improvements and activities. The staff are first class, caring, friendly and efficient. Hadleigh is lucky to have such a special home for our loved ones.

Very impressed with level of service/care prior to my mother being discharged from hospital and joining my father at Canterbury House (i.e visiting in hospital to discuss care/requirements etc). A few niggles, lack of waste bin in bathroom, tray table in room. Activities appeared to be improving but sometimes there appears to be a lack of communication/information. Overall there is an improvement and happy that my parents are well cared for. Special commendation when my mother was poorly overnight.
