I recently went into Canterbury House for two weeks respite care. I was quite apprehensive about going in but my worries were unfounded. All the staff were very kind and helpful, the food was good, especially the cakes and puddings!

I would definitely recommend this home.

From the initial visit to view the home, my husband moving in when he was discharged from hospital, and every other aspect the staff have all been amazing. Everyone has been so helpful and caring, the Home Manager, admin staff, team leaders, carers, the lovely laundry lady and the maintenance guy. Thank you all so much for taking such good care of John. Canterbury House is a wonderful care home and highly recommended.

Since my mum arrived at Canterbury House in Aug 2025, we have found every member of staff to be so caring to my mum. They genuinely want to help in any way possible and always react to any input from us as family.
It's so clean and maintained beautifully which mum herself regular comments on.
We came here on a recommendation even though the home is a little further away than we wanted, it's worth the journey!

Would highly recommend! Thank you for looking after my mum so well.

My contact with Canterbury House was as the daughter of a resident. However I have also had a long career in health and social care, having run several care homes, commissioned residential and nursing home care, and chaired a major NHS Trust.

On choosing a home I was immediately impressed by the physical environment of Canterbury House, but even more so by the caring and welcoming approach of every member of staff I came into contact with.

Mum was extremely well cared for in a sensitive and dignified manner. In her short final illness this was so important and of great comfort to us as a family.

I would not hesitate to recommend Canterbury House.

My mum was reluctant to be in a care home, but we were convinced it was the best option for her and she soon settled in. Although she was very strong willed she was always treated with kindness and affection. Thank you very much for looking after her.

My mother stayed at Canterbusy House for about a month, receiving respite care because she was convalescing from being in hospital. The carers ensured that Mum was safe and comfortable and they treated her with warmth and dignity. Mum is very grateful for all those who looked after her, saying how hard and lovely they all were.

Both of my parents are residing at Canterbusy House and have been for over 3 years now. Since the current management have been employed the standards have greatly increased. Both of my parents are safe, secure and well looked after. The current staff employed go above and beyond expectations. The management and team leaders always respond to my enquiries and keep me informed constantly.

Staff are exceptional - friendly, nothing is too much trouble and always happy to help anytime, night or day. Mum is very well cared for and looked after and has settled in well, and is very comfortable. The home's 'social calendar' is excellent with lots of varied activities, which mum is enjoying, and it's lovely to see her socialise. I cannot praise Canterbury Home enough at such a difficult time.

Canterbury House have cared for my Mother-in-law for 3 years, and in all this time she has been treated with respect and dignity by all of the staff. She turns 100 years young in July, and on a recent visit, we were approached by management who informed us they have booked her favourite singer for her special day. They also arranged a meeting the the chef manager to discuss catering needs for her special day. This goes way beyond our expectations, and we couldn't thank Canterbury House for going above and beyond to make her day so special. We know she is loved and cared for, and couldn't wish for a better care home. All the staff are amazing!

My aunt has been there for 5 years. It has been a roller coaster course with good and not so good times. Many changes of management and staff and at times periods of inferior care and support. Happily I can say this has changed since the current management were instituted.
There is a much better atmosphere and the staff now seem to have stabilised. It has become a far more welcoming place. There were times in the past when we really didn't enjoy visiting.
There is a great activity programme and the residents have been empowered to decide what they want or don't want. The staff are so good dealing with my aunt and all her foibles and I do believe she is a lot happier. We have been very impressed and I can honestly say it is all down to the current management.

I think some of the internal fabric needs a little updating, my aunts room could do with a lick of paint, needed since she moved in! Bathroom very compact for the cost! Somehow the staff manage, not easy! Communal rooms are great.

Within moments of entering Canterbury House I knew our dear mum would be in safe hands. The atmosphere is welcoming; the staff are friendly, polite and more than happy to help in any way they can. The kindness and care they show to their residents is exemplary.
No one really wants their parent or loved one to go into a care home but if you find yourself in a similar to position to ours and there is no other option, you could not do better than visit Canterbury House and the wonderful team of staff there. The facilities are great, the home is decorated throughout to a very high standard and the food is yum!

I can't thank Canterbury House enough for taking so much of the stress and worry away from what could have been a very worrying time for us all as mum made her transition to her new home. Thank you so much!

On the occasions I visited my Mother all the staff were more than helpful and went out of their way to offer exceptional care to my Mother. Management again could not have been more helpful and always kept us as a family informed on any changes to my Mothers's condition. And in her last few days acted with the utmost dignity.

Lovely care home, bright, open, spacious, and well-appointed. The food looked good and plentiful and most of the staff were very helpful and caring. My Mother unfortunately had a medical issue which impacted her respite stay preventing her from getting as much from the stay as possible. Residents all seemed happy and content. My only suggestion would be that we would have liked to have had more feedback on Mum's condition and how she had been and it wasn't always clear who was best to talk to and who was best placed to give feedback.
