Rowan Lodge is an award-winning care home nestled within the beautiful North Hampshire countryside, combining 24-hour residential and nursing care with warm and friendly hospitality for up to 60 residents on a permanent and respite basis.

Surrounded by peaceful countryside, residents enjoy meadow views from their luxury bedrooms equipped with ensuite facilities, spacious communal areas for entertaining and dining, a dedicated activities room, café, cinema and hair salon. Contrasting tones and colourful digital wallpapers are incorporated into the interior décor for visual stimulus.

Outside, a quaint summer house, tranquil courtyard, and terraces with alfresco dining areas provide perfect outdoor spaces for residents and their loved ones to enjoy. Raised herb gardens with vibrant flowers offer sensory experiences for residents to independently explore.

A dedicated activities team prioritise resident wellbeing by organising a variety of meaningful and joyful group, individual and one-to-one activities and experiences. Activities are adapted to the daily wishes of residents, their cultural interests, and supported by life-story work in line with Rowan Lodge’s ethos of a person-centred approach to care. Some of the many activities they provide are; cultural days, themed tea parties and dining experiences, classic car events, floristry workshops, wildlife talks, Tai Chi, trips out to nearby attractions (and the seaside), live musical entertainers – Irish dancers, ukulele players, Motown singers, tribute acts and visiting animals – alpacas, birds of prey and even penguins to name a few!

On Saturday 12th August, my husband and I attended a vintage car event held in the car park of the home.
We were late arriving as my father's home had a BBQ on the same day. There was a good selection of vintage cars on display and two couples in 40's costumes were jiving to music in the centre. Although
my mum wasn't present, there were plenty of residents enjoying the nostalgia. The sun was shining and staff also made an effort to dress up and were serving milkshakes. A great effort.

Accommodation equivalent to 4 star hotel standard. Food very good, traditional in quality and quantity with plenty of choice. All staff from cleaners to care staff very caring, friendly, sympathetic with empathy to care needs of residents. it would have been useful to have a briefing or leaflet from
senior staff about domestic arrangements - laundry, bath/shower, meal times, bed adjustment etc.
Many times the water jugs were not filled nor beds made and I had to call the busy care staff. Why not get the cleaners to do this?

Over the last 2 years, I have seen several good improvements to the quality of care at Rowan Lodge. Whilst there have been minor problems the staff are quick to react in a pleasing and friendly manner. I would certainly recommend this home to my family and would have no problems with being a resident
myself if the need arose.


My only concern is the turnover of staff seems greater than is desirable with respect to providing consistent company and contact for the residents.

Rowan Lodge is a well kept, modern home in a lovely countryside setting. It is spacious and well equipped and generally very clean. The vast majority of staff are friendly and caring, treating residents with respect and compassion.
Visitors are welcomed at any time and always offered tea/coffee etc.
The
current management team are making a huge effort to ensure staff are well trained and procedures correctly followed.
Recent improvements have been made to update facilities eg new hair salon, redecoration and refurbishment.

My mother has been at Rowan Lodge since it opened in 2011. I have never had any issues with the level of care given to mum despite many changes of management and caring staff over the years. I have had some reservations with the standard of food offered to mum, in particular food which she just cannot
eat as it is either too chewy or too hard. However despite this mum has always been in good health since she has been at Rowan Lodge. I would have no reservations recommending Rowan Lodge to anyone, I have spoken to many relatives over the years who have been delighted with the standards at the home. The current management are continually improving the home in many ways which can only be good for the future.

'A caring community'.
Purpose built, light and airy. Wide corridors. All facilities easily accessible.
Qualified and excellent nursing care. Regular visits from doctors, with feedback to relatives.
Individualised care. All staff have the welfare of residents at heart. Timely communications between
staff and relatives of all relevant information.
Wide range of activities organised by friendly 'pink' ladies, including one to one for those not wishing to partake.
Dignity and respect for residents.
Although the facilities, social areas and rooms take the eye. The main asset of the home is the caring attitude of the staff, from cleaners, through carers to management.

With a lot of help from Rowan Lodge we were finally able to get my mum out of hospital where she had been stuck for over a month after a fall (ironically a couple of days before we were transferring her to the Lodge after a stroke and memory loss made 24-hour care essential). In hospital, she was trapped
in a cycle of catching infections and not being exercised or stimulated. As soon as she arrived they got her outside in the sunshine with a sun hat and after just a couple of weeks, her improvement is enormous. There are plenty of activities, she is always dressed and gets to exercise with her walking frame and has developed a bit of independence and some memory recovery. Food is good and the carers are lovely. It was recommended to us by my brother-in-law whose mother spent her final few months there with dignity. The carers are wonderful and the manager is an ex-nursing sister who knows her stuff. They did have some CQC issues some time ago, but these have been put right now.

I have been here 5 years.
I have enjoyed staying here because I get my things done for me.
Washing is done for me, dressing and breakfast, lunch and tea and the garden.
And we have enjoyed the entertainment.

During a four-year period, my mother could not have been given better care whilst experiencing her debilitating illness.
The expression of love from the carers and the activities group was second to none.
The current management (2016 - 2017) ensure that all staff fully understand the full meaning
of 'caring' for all residents.

This home offers excellent care for my wife keeping her clean, warm and comfortable. She does not need any entertainment due to her mental state so she could be regarded as a resident who presents few challenges to the home. On the minus side the home employs a large percentage of temporary staff which
can result in poor coordination.

Atmosphere friendly and welcoming, managers and staff listen to and engage with relatives well. Activity team excellent and understanding of individual residents capabilities and needs. Cleanliness excellent - the home has a homely feel - not institutionalised. Big improvements made over the previous
year with new managers in place. More consistency of staff and better staffing levels. Calm and relaxed atmosphere - generally a much improved and happier care home with good caring staff.

Rowan Lodge makes the unbearable situation of dealing with dementia, bearable. The staff are kind, friendly and helpful. The residents are looked after with great care and affection and with considerable concern for the individual and dignity. The home is spotlessly clean and the laundry service is
excellent with residents wearing clean clothes every day.
A charming hairdresser comes into the home every week plus a chiropodist comes regularly and the GP has a weekly clinic. The entertainment team work hard, six days per week trying to stimulate the residents. Activities include; daily exercise class, art class, quiz games, board games, skittles and bean bag games plus concerts organised each month.

My aunt was very reluctant initially to stay in a care home, but throughout her week, all the staff proved to be so friendly and caring. The food was excellent, accommodation and facilities in her room excellent and many residents were so friendly and kind towards her, that on her final morning she
asked if she had to go home, declared she had a wonderful time and when asked 9if she would like to return her eyes completely lit up, beamed and smile and then said "could I?", smiling all the while. Consequently, we have decided to book her in for various visits throughout the new year - she will be thrilled.

We were impressed with the website and then made a visit to Rowan Lodge. The friendly atmosphere was our first impression. All the staff we came in contact with were very professional, friendly and empathetic. I would certainly recommend Rowan Lodge to other friends for family members. Mum was always
nicely dressed her room was always immaculate considering there had been a change in manager during mums stay we felt the home continued to run smoothly.

These comments refer to ALL the staff - catering, carers, nurses, admin, hairdressers, pinks, domestic staff, agency staff, maintenance, day staff, night staff, every single one them. Our hearts are aching at the loss of our beautiful mum, and yet at the same time they are bursting with joy for the
care, comfort and pure love they have shown to her and to us, in the 9 short months that they have had her in their care. We will never forget every single one of them who came into contact with our precious mum.

Dan

Dan Binney

Job Title: Service Manager Joined: 2016

Dan has 25 years’ experience in the NHS working in Mental Health Services. He has worked extensively in care records and client-based electronic systems. Dan worked as part of the National Program team installing the first client based electronic care record into Barnsley and Community Priority Services NHS Trust and later took the role as Systems Manager. In 2011, he became the Administration Manager for a Memory Service in South Yorkshire, together with the Service Manager; they took the service forward winning the award of excellence in the Memory Services National Accreditation Program with the Royal College of Psychiatry which is endorsed by the CQC.
In 2015, Dan emigrated to Gran Canaria where he worked for a law firm who specialised in helping English ex-pats who had bought property in the Canaries who required legal assistance. He then returned to the UK in 2016 when he began work with Forest Care.

Wendy

Wendy Tidbury

Job Title: Home Administrator Joined: 2017

Wendy is our outgoing and empathetic Home Administrator. She is a passionate member of the team, striving to add a personal touch to the care given to residents and support to relatives.


As Administrator, Wendy is responsible for the day-to-day administrative functioning of the home and supporting Dan. This involves a variety of tasks such as employment checks, enquiry handling, show rounds and admissions, to reassuring residents and relatives and dealing with their day-to-day requests.

Christopher Laidler

Job Title: Head Chef Joined: 2023

Christopher joined the Forest Care team as Head Chef at Rowan Lodge this year. He relished this opportunity to really show his creativity with food by redesigning the presentation meals to be elegant and fun while considering each resident's dietary requirements. Christopher adds a personal touch to his work by speaking with residents daily to make sure they are happy with the menus available.

Terri is our passionate and hard-working Activities Lead. She gets to know our residents to plan respectful, fun and engaging activities for all our residents to enjoy. From Casino Nights to Music Therapy, Terri plans an eventful activities calendar that encourages emotional, social and physical well-being.

Alan is our Handyman who helps with fixing things and making sure our home runs smoothly. This involves ensuring that any maintenance/repair works are carried out promptly and efficiently with minimum disturbance.


Alan is your man if you require shelving, pictures hung on a wall, carpet cleaning or any general maintenance to make your room as comfortable as possible.

Our dedicated and experienced nursing team is responsible for managing the clinical care of our residents at Rowan Lodge focusing on their holistic care, which includes their mental, physical and emotional wellbeing.
