I'm a partner to a residents granddaughter and a new visitor to Hilltop. Throughout visiting the resident, my observation to the attentiveness, level of personal care and consideration to the resident's best interests and well being is second to none. Hilltop is a lovely care home if they would have me I'd stay there too!

After a bumpy start, we could not be happier with the care my nan receives. The basics of her hygiene, dressing and toileting are carried out with great care. The staff are extremely professional and provide excellent care. I have been most impressed with the improvement in staff management, record keeping, knowledge and understanding. The personal care staff make with residents is excellent. They are kind, compassionate and respectful. Appropriate activities have vastly improved my nan's quality of life. I and my family are very grateful for the time and effort so obviously given by all involved.

Phoenix Park Care Village (The Hilltop Care home/nursing home) has become bright and full of laughter. The walls in the sitting areas have bright coloured posters. Trees of life are made from light materials and hung on the walls so people can hang messages on them. Washable flags are on the walls all over the building. Knitted articles with many other materials are on display for residents to feel and touch. Large rubber dominos are on the tables for residents to play games with carers. Well done to the trainer.

As it happened my visit in June coincided with my brother's yearly review by an officer from Social Services. This was done with patience and took into account all of his needs and feelings. We have had no problems with his past care apart from the lack of social activity and stimulus which it now seems is gradually being addressed i.e my brother always loved a game of pool, which he can now do.

Welcoming staff who are helpful and easy to talk to, they know our aunt as a person very well and treat her with respect and kindness.
The care home keeps us informed of any developments when needed.

The food is very good. The home is secure. Cleanliness is an issue her room often looks and feels dirty with debris on the floor. The Recent change of management has begun to make a difference in terms of activities for residents and training for staff.

I have found throughout July and in fact, all the time that my father has been at Hilltop that the staff are attentive, respectful and treat my father with dignity and a very caring attitude. I find that nothing is too much for them. His room is kept clean, tidy and the rest of the home is always very clean. I have been there during lunchtime and the food has always been excellent. My personal care is second to none. If he has a spillage or accident it is sorted straight away.

The burden and stress of my father's illness has been taken off my shoulders and I feel that my father gets the best care possible leaving me relaxed in the knowledge he is safe and well cared for.

Premises not clean or tidy. There is nothing to interest or motivate patients - or staff. Both would improve with more interest.

My experience when my husband and I go to visit my brother at Hilltop Phoenix Park care home in Scunthorpe, we just show up we are not expected and always find everything very good no complaints whatsoever. My brother has always been very well looked after, his room always clean, as my brother is clean also well looked after. We have almost 100 miles to travel early morning to visit. For the past few months as my husband is quite ill we visit 5 or 6 times.

Top marks go to carers for patience and courtesy. They are also friendly and pleasant to visitors. Food is varied, appetising, well cooked. Garden area needs attention as paving slabs have been badly laid initially, making the danger of tripping. Too many cigarette ends lying about. Brambles need propely digging out as they could cause painful scratches - even at face level. Most rooms are bright and sunny but "the bistro" is almost windowless.
Too much loud music. Cleanliness is very good. Clothing and shoes in very short supply despite a provision of plenty.

Overall - yes, I would recommend it.

My mum has been a resident here for 15 months now. We as a family can honestly say that the care and attention she receives is brilliant. Mum has one to one care, she can be very demanding at times but the staff deal with her in a positive and thoughtful way. We have never had any reason to worry about mum because she is so well looked after in every aspect of her care. The staff on all levels do a fantastic job in looking after mum. We have nothing but praise for all of them.

My sister in law has a significant mental impairment and I found the staff were aware of her needs and react well to any issues she has. Staff numbers seemed less and there were concerns about management and the now extended premises.

I cannot fault the care given to my brother. The staff are excellent, very patient and caring. His room is a little bland but he has been provided with a profile bed. The overall appearance of the home has greatly improved much more like a home now than an institution. My only criticism is that his clothes were not too clean.

This review relates to the team leader and with his reference to a 'continuing health care review' for my mum. Throughout this review, the team leader was nothing but professional and the preparation which he had undertaken prior to the review taking place, was evident throughout.

His knowledge, understanding and caring approach to his work was appreciated by both myself and the social worker involved in the review and I would just like to thank him for his support during this review. The team leader is a shining example of all of the team at Phoenix Park and the outstanding work which they do - Cannot thank them enough!

Overall Experience
The senior staff and mature members of staff at Hill Top Care Home were compassionate caring and hard working aiming to please the resident and their relatives at all times. Anything to make the resident more comfortable and happy without thinking of cost implications this home tried to achieve. There were some junior members of staff who had a lot to learn about end of life comforts and I hope within time they will learn how to do this.

My father was a resident for just 6 months and 80% of his time there he was completely happy and in fact considered it his home. My father had very high standards in cleanliness and hygiene which some members of staff found very difficult to achieve. It mist be said nevertheless he was well respected by all who knew him and cared for him in his final months of life.
