Overall Experience
My mother went into the home in June 2013 and recently died in December 2020. We are confident Mum was in the best place possible. Her room was bright, well decorated and overlooked a well maintained sheltered garden. We were made very welcome by staff and could visit when we wanted. My mother's wishes were always taken into account and she was given the option of joining in activities, outings or not as she wished or felt able. Staff were caring and treated her with dignity. and often genuine affection. If any issues arose we were able to bring them up with staff or management and they would be looked into and resolved. Several times a year there was a relative and residents meeting and we would be updated on plans and changes and could raise any issues.

This review is based on our experience up to March 2020 before lockdown.

My mum spent her final 18 months at Cedars and they made her life so much more fulfilled than it had been for some years due to her progressive condition. Mum was cared for wonderfully well, with respect for her individual needs and preferences, including how her room was arranged. The exceptional provision of activities, outings, and events gave her such happiness and pleasure. The premises and facilities are lovely, homely, and well looked after. Any difficulties are dealt with efficiently but with kind consideration. The staff are professional but friendly, kind, thoughtful, and truly caring people. We are very grateful to all at Cedars for everything they did for our Mum, and us as a family. Cedars epitomises what true care is.

I was apprehensive leaving my husband at Cedars for the first time last week, but when I collected him after a week's respite he was very relaxed and seemed to have a very good relationship with the carers. I now feel much more confident to do this again - good for my husband and good for me. Thank you so much.

It was necessary for a member of the family to have an eight-day respite stay and we were impressed with Cedars from our initial visit. From the friendliness of the staff to the cleanliness of the home, the slightly reticent family member was won over and would be happy to stay again if needed. Thanks to all the staff at Cedars.

I stayed at Cedars Care Home after an accident. I live at my flat in Romford. I spent 3 weeks in hospital. The staff at Cedars were professional, I can't praise them enough and plan to spend a day volunteering once I've moved to Southend. They should be paid more.

Mum was in Cedars Care Home for three years and loved it. All of the staff are very caring, attentive and professional. The home is kept spotlessly clean and meals are not only nutritional, they match the high standards of top restaurants! Every week there are performers to entertain the residents, and art/craft and cooking activities. Residents are also taken out on trips to local places of interest. Cedars is more like a five-star hotel than a care home.

We have been sending Mum for respite into Cedars Care Home over the past 5 years. From the very first respite, she was treated with respect and dignity. She was accepted and treated like a permanent resident. The staff took time to find out about her life experiences and family relationships. When I took Mum in for respite I could walk out knowing I had left Mum in caring competent hands. Sadly, on her last respite there she had a fall, which led to her becoming unwell and losing her strength and fight to live. Throughout this time the staff were very caring and supportive. They called the family immediately when any changes occurred showing sympathy and empathy. Our mum was 94 years old with mobility problems and dementia. Staff at Cedars Care Home couldn't have done any more for her. Thank you all.

I thought the home was really nice, very clean, lovely rooms and lovely spacious building. My mum was on the whole very happy with the food on order. I thought the entertainments were pretty good and I felt the activity coordinator was trying really hard to provide it with the rest of the team helping. I felt the care wasn't great on occasions but the staff were all lovely.

I do however feel that it's very expensive for what it is.

Really good experience with this residential home. Staff were always helpful and friendly to both residents and their families. Facilities were really good and activities quite varied giving adequate stimulation, although some events planned did not materialise for some reason.

Always made to feel welcome.

My mum was treated/cared for exceptionally well. When she first arrived she was unable to walk at all after a series of falls and stays in hospital. After a month she left with some of her mobility returned.

The staff were absolutely brilliant and nothing seemed to be any trouble and Mum was put at her ease, especially at times when she was embarrassed.

As a family, we found the care and attention given to our father during his time at Cedars was exemplary. The staff were very hard-working and attentive and seemed genuinely fond of my father. Nothing was too much trouble.

Cedars Care Home is a cheerful bright care home with a lovely garden.
It is a pleasure to visit with no "smell" often associated with care homes. My father receives the very best care and attention, affection and respect from all members of staff.

He, in turn, feels safe and is very fond of the staff who care for him. He is now 101 years old and I am sure the care he receives has contributed to his great age.

Review from Ruth (Granddaughter of Resident) published on 29 May 2018 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My Grandma has lived at The Cedars for several years now. She settled in fairly quickly and, at the beginning when she was unsettled, the staff would phone me to talk to and reassure her. There is a balance of trying to get people involved in activities and leaving them alone. I have been made to feel welcome and have enjoyed sitting in the garden or singing along at a concert.
On a more basic level, it doesn't smell (either of urine or sanitisers/air fresheners) and I have not overheard residents being spoken to harshly. The staff are friendly despite the challenges of caring for people who can be very dependent, difficult and aggressive sometimes. Caring for old people with dementia is never going to be easy or 'pretty', but she is safe and happy.

I ask my Grandma each time I visit whether she is happy and she says that she is. I would love it if she could move to be nearer to me, as I live several hours away but, if this can't be, I do not feel she could be anywhere better.

As soon as I entered the home, I received a nice friendly welcome. I find mums room nice and clean and tidy, and also the car for her is great. Even though mum cannot get involved with the activities due to her health conditions, I find that there is always a lot going on for the other resident's. Also, I find the food to be of very good quality. I would have no hesitation in recommending this home to anyone else.

Mum went into Cedars for respite after being in hospital and has been a resident since last year and she is happy and settled. The staff are lovely and seem to really care about all the residents and their families. They couldn't do more.
Mum enjoys the various activities that are offered and is doing more now than she has done for a long time. The food is good; she enjoys it and is happy with her care and surroundings.

I'm happy that Mum is being well looked after and I have no worries about her care.

Excellent service throughout from manager through to care assistants. Kind and caring and went to lengths to make mum happy. The care assistants constantly interacted cheerfully with all and kept friendly eye on vulnerable residents whilst allowing them independence and dignity. Would highly recommend Cedars Care Home.
