I have worked in social care for over 30 years. Starting off as a Carer in a small residential home, I have progressed through the ranks as a Senior carer and then Deputy Manager.
My first role as a registered Manager was in 2007 and since then I have gained a wide range of experience within the care sector from small companies to the larger cooperative ones.
I have completed NVQs at levels 2 3 4, the Registered Managers award and a certificate in Leadership and Management.
Before starting work with Rochcare I was employed as a Peripatetic Manager travelling around the Country.
I enjoy working in Chorley, as it is my home town and I get job satisfaction knowing I am providing a safe and high standard of care for my local community who live with Dementia.
I have worked at Coniston House for 5 years, starting here as a senior carer, I was then promoted into a Team leader position in 2016. And in October I was promoted to Deputy Manager.
I am very passionate about the level of care that we give and also the progress that the home has made. I've worked closely alongside the previous Deputy and the Manager, supporting them in the general day to day running of the home.
I attend regular training sessions keeping my knowledge and skills up to date, I also achieved a NVQ level 5 management and leadership award last year.
I am the home’s medication champion, providing and ensuring the safe practice of administration of medications. I train and update senior staff our systems, ensuring competency assessments are in place for administering medication.
Coniston House is beautiful caring home,
I am proud to be part of the team.
I have worked at Coniston for almost 4 years starting as a Care Assistant. A year ago, I was asked if I would change my role to that of activities coordinator, this has been one of the best decisions I have made.
I attend pre-admission assessments with the Managers to introduce myself to the residents and their Families before they come into the home, letting them know about all the wonderful activities we do here.
I am passionate about providing person-centred activities to our Residents and in turn promoting the home. All the Residents and staff have lots of ‘Bright Moments’ at Coniston.
As well as the day to day in house activities such as the choir, bingo afternoons armchair exercises and pampering we also have weekly trips to the supermarket and the pub.
We also hold lots of fund-raising events and anything raised contributes to the bigger outings, for example, The Farm, The seaside, and local Pantomime.
I have worked at Coniston House for over 9 years, starting as a night carer.
I decided after a while that I would like to apply for the day carer role that had become available.
However, not long afterwards I started working in the kitchen as a cook.
I soon realised that I was missing the interaction with the residents by being in the kitchen, so I decided to return to care.
I know now that working within the social care industry is where I want to be, so I am currently undergoing training for more of a senior role. I would love to take on more responsibility and training in the skills required for medication administration.
I feel that I am a very caring individual and I am passionate about my job, caring and interacting with the residents is the favourite part of my job. I find the whole aspect of social care extremely rewarding.
I am currently completing my NVQ Level 3 in social care.
