On the whole, as a family, we are very satisfied with the home. The staff have been excellent during these difficult times, ensuring our mum has remained well and safe. We do, however, feel there could have been some slight improvements. There are not enough staff between the hours of 4 and 10 pm, this
is a very busy time with medication and getting ready for bed. If a member of staff were available they could wait and chat with the residents and maybe do drinks and check rooms to make sure they have all had one.
Reply from Rachel Aran, Marketing Administrator at Hanford Court Care Home - Avery HealthcareThank you very much for your lovely review and kind words. I will certainly pass this on to the team. In order to ensure that we have staff available at our busier times, we do operate a twilight shift where additional staff work from the hours of 6 pm-12 midnight, which we find works well. I am happy to discuss with you any individual suggestions and feedback that you may have. Regards.

Very friendly staff, well-managed home, staff are trained well and follow procedures. They keep the family well informed of the resident's progress. Good activities are available. Very impressed with their handling of the whole Covid experience and the measures taken albeit strict at times (but for
the good of the residents).
Reply from Rachel Aran, Marketing Administrator at Hanford Court Care Home - Avery HealthcareThank you for taking the time to review Hanford Court Care Home and for your amazing 5-star review. My mother has been a resident for over ten years and has been very happy and well cared for over the years. All staff are helpful, cheerful and patient. I wish my mother could have sides to her bed as she has fallen out of bed several times.
Reply from Gemma Boot, Home Manager at Hanford Court Care Home - Avery HealthcareThank you for your lovely review. I would welcome the opportunity to meet with you to discuss in person your mother’s individual risk assessment regarding her bed. Please be assured that this has been fully assessed by our trained team. I look forward to hearing from you.

My friend has been at Hanford Court originally for respite - she has now been there for sixteen months. During this time, she has been looked after and cared for 100%. I feel that with the Covid situation she is in a safe environment and has opted to stay as a resident. My views of Hanford Court are
reflected in the relevant ratings.

I cannot fault this care home, it is sparkling clean, the rooms are amazing and the staff - I can not say how good they are. They treat every resident as if they were family, they are so caring and I have never heard any raised voices. The food is served hotel-style and is delicious according to my
father.

On a good day, overall standards are acceptable. On an off day, food tends to be unattractive and unappetising (lacks imagination for elderly people with dementia).
Staff shortages are noticeable with a decline in personal care and poor housekeeping standards. Staff shortages lead to a decline in individual
client needs, e.g. toileting, washing, grooming and assistance with feeding on occasions when the resident is having an 'off day'. More and varied activities would benefit residents.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.604)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.604) out of 10 for Hanford Court Care Home - Avery Healthcare is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.629 for Hanford Court Care Home - Avery Healthcare is calculated as follows: ( (148 Excellents x 5) + (69 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 224 Ratings = 4.629
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hanford Court Care Home - Avery Healthcare is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 61 registered maximum number of service users is 12.2, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2012

Hello, my name is Gemma, and I am delighted to be the Home Manager here at Hanford Court.

Having the privilege to work here for the past 9 years, Hanford Court has truly become a second home for me.

With 17 years’ experience in the healthcare sector my previous roles have included, Carer/Senior Carer, Team Leader, Trainer, and Deputy Manager. I have also achieved qualifications such as NVQ Level 5, Social Care, and a Diploma in Sociology, where I have gained the skills and knowledge to succeed in my role today.

Within this time, I have shared many treasured moments with the residents I have had the pleasure to meet.

Seeing my residents smile each day gives me the motivation to perform at the highest level. One proud moment that I will cherish throughout my career was when I was able to fulfil one of my residents’ dreams of riding in a helicopter. It was so special just to see how happy they were.

I would best describe myself as very sociable. We have multiple cosy lounge areas throughout our home where you will often find me having a cuppa and a natter with one of our residents. In my spare time, I enjoy cooking and watching football.

Avery Healthcare, owners of Hanford Court, best stands out for their award-winning standards of care. And our home is no different. My favourite aspect of Hanford Court would be its beautiful, landscaped gardens which residents can enjoy all year round, whether that be planting crops to later be used by our talented culinary team or just simply soaking up the sun on a summer’s day. We have also recently installed our visiting pod which facilitates safe visiting for our residents and their loved ones.

I look forward to welcoming you to the Hanford Court care community.
