Hopton Cottage Care Home in Huddersfield achieved ‘Outstanding' in responsive care and ‘Good’ in the other four categories during the last inspection in June 2019.

The staff team at Hopton Cottage believe that when your elderly relative moves into a care home instead of waiting, their enjoyment and quality of life improves a lot. The home is in a very pleasant location with well planned, spacious and comfortable rooms. The communal areas are welcoming and pleasant. Cleanliness of all areas is of a high standard and the office staff and carers are thoughtful and helpful. Safety of residents was always a priority and activities
were well organised. The standard of food was acceptable usually with good choices. Generally the home was a pleasant place to live and my mother was quite contented. She lived there fro Oct 2012 to March 2015.

Outstanding care from the whole care team, especially the love and understanding during mother's last hours. We were so thankful she could stay at Hopton right until the end of her life.

My step mother became one of the first residents back in 2012 into this stylish, purpose built home.


It was immediately apparent, having visited some twenty care homes, how different they all were. Two homes stood out head and shoulders above the rest with their care and Hopton Care Cottages was

at the top of the tree.


Many homes were either conversions or a multi-storey block in design with no thought to living. Hopton Care Cottages is most definitely not one of these and this was most apparent on our first visit. We left with a smile knowing that we had found something different- something special that would become a comfortable home and quickly. We were taken with the careful design offering three different zones and inner gardens that were safe, in particular when someone has dementia. Our goal was to find somewhere that we could live in ourselves and we found it!


A year after my step mother moved in, I was talking with a couple who were in a similar dilemma looking for something suitable for their mother and suggested Hopton to them. They had seen a number of homes and were disappointed in what they saw. I told them of our experience and they too are now thrilled to bits with Hopton and most of all, mum is happy.


The home goes from strength to strength and is managed by an enthusiastic team who aim to have 'happy clients'. They listen to suggestions. They always have a smile but most of all my step mother smiles. It was a hard decision but we know we have done right because we all wish that she could be at home, but it is not possible. We want her to be safe, happy and looked after and that is what we have - thank you Hopton

My Mum, aged 79, had to move into a residential setting earlier this year following the death of my Dad in January 2015. Mum was starting with Dementia and could no longer safely manage in her own home, so we, as a family took the difficult decision to move Mum into full time residential care. My
father in law had previously resided at Hopton Care Cottages and we were delighted with the care that he received.


I contacted Joseph at Hopton and both he and Susanne made the journey to Pontefract, approximately 1 hours drive away from Hopton, to have a chat with Mum to see if she thought that Hopton was a place where she could be happy. This was followed up with a visit and lunch at the cottages and Mum was confident that this was the place for her.


She moved in that weekend and all of the staff from the senior management team down have gone out of their way to make Mum welcome during this very difficult period in her life. The Accommodation is excellent, mum even has a substantial decked area assessed by patio doors on which she has a bird table and gets much pleasure from her feathered visitors. Everywhere is spotlessly clean, Mum's laundry is done every day, the meals are of hotel standard and freshly cooked on site. Mum looks so much better now that someone is ensuring that she gets three excellent quality meals every day. There are at least two activities for the residents to participate in every day which keeps both mind and body active. I am also confident that Mum is safe and secure and that someone ensures that she takes all of her medication on a daily basis.


I couldn't be happier that Mum is in a residential home that is very close to where we live, that we can visit on a much more regular basis than we could before and that when we do visit we can spend quality time with her, rather than rushing around getting shopping in and doing household jobs for her. Hopton Care Cottages is an excellent place for a loved relative to move into when they can no longer look after themselves. I would not hesitate to recommend them.

I moved into Hopton Care cottages on 1st July. So far I have been very impressed. The manager came to see me at my home and then again while I was in hospital. He runs a very tight ship. The home is spotless and my cleaning lady comes every day. I am recovering from hip surgery and I am having physio
provided at the home which is helping me no end. The food here is excellent and there are beautiful home made desserts or cakes every day. I have not been able to do so many activities as yet but the activities staff have spent time with me in my room which has been lovely. The care staff have been great with me. I have needed a lot of help due to my injury but they are always patient and I don't feel rushed. I especially like the new girl as she jokes that we are both new together. I'm so happy I came to Hopton Care Cottages as its not like living in a care home. I still feel like I have my own place but I have help on hand whenever I need it. I know my family are relieved I am in a safe place and getting better every day.

I'm Joseph, one of our family directors at Hopton Cottage Care Home. I've led Hopton Cottage from the start and I still oversee the whole service with Suzanne the Registered Manager and my fellow Directors Ann-Maria and Rory. I still meet everyone who is considering Hopton Cottage Care Home as their next Home. This is all part of the special, personal service we are famous for.
