Dad had to move from his warden-controlled flat (which he loved) after 2 appalling, 2 week long admittances hospital. I managed to get him into Parker Meadows who have been exceptional. He wasn't happy for the first week because it was new to him and his dementia had got so much worse from his hospital
experiences. 4 weeks on and he is much happier and so am I. He gets everything he needs and he is safe. The food is fab, the nurses and carers are second to none and nothing is too much for them. His room is lovely, has everything he needs and we have brought things from home for him to help him remember family, friends and his life with Mum who sadly passed away last year. He is encouraged to move about and eat well and has help with anything he needs. I have a bit of life back and he is near enough to visit every day and it's wonderful to see him interacting with the staff and having jokes with them. It's a warm, happy and cheerful place and my mind is at rest.

Mum was a resident at Gracewell/Parker Meadows from July 2017 to March 2023. She settled quickly and it soon became ‘home’. She enjoyed the entertainment, particularly the music and the church services. Staff were attentive to her needs and they became more like friends. The team spent time with her
and were aware and adapted appropriately as her needs changed even as she became a little more difficult. Issues raised, including medical concerns, were dealt with appropriately and we were kept informed promptly. We were incredibly pleased as to how all staff, from cleaners to managers were aware of her end-of-life care and really appreciated the personal touches. On her 90th birthday, the catering team provided friends and family with a buffet and birthday cake. In difficult situations, such as COVID, we were kept informed of visiting arrangements according to national guidelines and were able to continue visiting most of the time. We are pleased we chose this care home for Mum.

My wife has been a resident for just over two weeks and my first impressions are good. The carers are efficient and good with my wife, despite being a bit stretched and busy at times. I was disappointed today when my wife was confined to bed from midday onwards because the sling allocated to her room
became soiled whilst she was being cleaned after a bowel movement and there was not another sling available! Another resident was the same.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, PA to Marketing Director at Parker MeadowsThank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your experience here at Parker Meadows.
I am pleased that you have had a positive first experience with the home and the care team. With regards to the issues around slings, when a new resident joins us, we provide a sling suitable for their needs, we then re-assess and will order a further sling to enable one for laundering as needed. Unfortunately, due to LOLER inspections (a legal requirement for all lifting equipment), the second sling was not available to be used at that time.
I am sorry that this has occurred, and I have spoken with the team to ensure that we are able to provide a suitable alternative in the future.

My mother has been patiently and skilfully cared for in terms of emotional as well as physical needs as she got used to the fact she suddenly needed to be in a care home. They have kept me well informed at every step along a sometimes tricky journey. I have been impressed with them in every way.

Whilst my late father was only at Parker Meadows for a short time, I found the staff very supportive and attentive to both my father and our needs. The admissions manager was very helpful during the admission process, which we would otherwise have found very difficult as my father never wanted to go
into a nursing home. The admissions manager was very reassuring and comforting. During my father's week-long stay, the staff did what they could to make him comfortable and made every effort to find foods that were acceptable to him as well as providing company when we could not be there in person.
Thank you once again to all the staff.

My mum came to Parker Meadows for respite over a four-week period. Unfortunately, she only spent four days there as she went into the hospital. However, she absolutely loved it. She said the room, food and staff were fantastic and that it was like a five-star hotel. All the staff we have come into contact
with have gone above and beyond, which has been lovely at this difficult time for us - well done!

Dad lived for three years and mum for four years on the residential level in Parker Meadows. They were treated with care., kindness and friendship by the staff and I cannot thank them enough. I marked the room satisfactory only because the storage space was very limited with no set of draws.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Personal Assistant at Parker MeadowsThank you very much for taking the time to write your review and for your kind words about the care and team at Parker Meadows which they’ll be incredibly happy to hear. Although the rooms do have ample space for residents to add extra furniture if they need more storage than what is provided, we will of course take on board your comments for the future. We are so pleased to have had the time with your parents and thank you again for your lovely words.

The Covid restrictions have meant that this is only my third visit to my aunt's room in the past year. I have really missed her. I came into contact with four members of staff today. My words to describe their interaction with us today are; professionally, precise, efficient, an ease and willingness
to everyone and interact, and not least, a very genuine kindness. My aunt has an antisocial personality and dementia, all the staff allowed her to "be herself" and respect her wishes. She really likes living at Gracewell, and I am so very reassured by that. After her long scenarios of decline physically and mentally, I know that my husband and I have found the best possible care for her.

We have felt that our family member has been well cared for and kept safe during these difficult times. The communication has been great and the options open to us to keep in contact well organised. Our family member is happy, made friends and speaks well of Gracewell. The grounds are always kept immaculate,
the staff friendly, helpful and don't mind phone calls checking in and give good updates. The moving-in process was positive, made easy and the family as a whole welcome.
Reply from Jacqui Hampton, General Manager at Parker MeadowsGracewell of Fareham appreciate moving into a care home can be an unsettling time. This is why we take the time to engage with family members and friends of the resident to make the process as smooth as possible, to get to know the resident on a personal level. We are pleased your family member has settled in well.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.861)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.861) out of 10 for Parker Meadows is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 28 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.861 for Parker Meadows is calculated as follows: ( (289 Excellents x 5) + (36 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 330 Ratings = 4.861
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Parker Meadows is based on 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 89 registered maximum number of service users is 17.8, which has been reached with 28 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

Before joining the team here, I was an acting commissioning manager. I have a level 5 NVQ in health and social care, as well as qualifications in leadership training. I have also completed the ROSPA Level 3 train-the-trainer course in moving and handling.

Care UK’s values mirror my own, which is one of the reasons why I wanted to work here. It also has a reputation for providing high-quality, person-centred care. As an organisation, there is a strong focus on innovation and a genuine desire to ensure residents’ wellbeing. There is also excellent professional development for colleagues who want to pursue a career in care.

In my role, you need to have compassion and empathy. It is also important to have strong communication skills, patience and adaptability. As with any leadership role, you also need to be resilient and be committed to continuous development.

As a home manager, I am here to support colleagues and to ensure we give residents the very best personalised care, and that they are happy, comfortable and safe. Knowing we make a real difference to people’s lives makes me proud of what we do here. It is also fantastic to see colleagues excel and progress in their own careers.

I have been lucky enough to have many career highlights. Ones that stand out include being able to support homes achieve outstanding CQC ratings and commissioning luxury care homes. Achieving a 10/10 for a home on carehome.co.uk was also another big highlight.

I have lots of interests outside of work, including science, particularly physics and biology. I like art, music and extreme sports, which I balance out with meditation. My focus though, is my family.
