Review from Kay D (Daughter of Resident) published on 3 November 2016 Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5
The bungalow has been made homely with familiar furniture, pictures and ornaments. It is light bright and warm. The level flooring allows use of the 'zimmer' increasing independence indoors.
The move has been traumatic, after a lifetime of rural living, but has been eased with having the family pet
here and the support of friendly and helpful staff.
It is lovely to have meals provided and with the flexibility of dining with others, or, separately.
It is good to have the support of laundry, cleaning and maintenance services.
We enjoyed the evening 'sing-a-long' and the afternoon gardening activity. We appreciated participating in a church service.
We welcome the degree of independence retained within a secure environment, without feeling institutionalised and restricted to one room.
We miss a focal fireplace and fresh air, but are warm all the time.
We have family nearby to take us out to attractive local places, which compensates for the lack of a beautiful countryside view.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
On whatever occasion I visit my friend at Gracewell, I am extremely impressed with the whole concept of the home. I hope it is there for me, in case of need, when I attain old age and can no longer take care of myself. It is lovely and the staff are very pleasant.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.898)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.898) out of 10 for Parker Meadows is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 29 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.898 for Parker Meadows is calculated as follows: ( (311 Excellents x 5) + (27 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 342 Ratings = 4.898
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Parker Meadows is based on 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 89 registered maximum number of service users is 17.8, which has been reached with 29 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

Before joining the team here, I was an acting commissioning manager. I have a level 5 NVQ in health and social care, as well as qualifications in leadership training. I have also completed the ROSPA Level 3 train-the-trainer course in moving and handling.

Care UK’s values mirror my own, which is one of the reasons why I wanted to work here. It also has a reputation for providing high-quality, person-centred care. As an organisation, there is a strong focus on innovation and a genuine desire to ensure residents’ wellbeing. There is also excellent professional development for colleagues who want to pursue a career in care.

In my role, you need to have compassion and empathy. It is also important to have strong communication skills, patience and adaptability. As with any leadership role, you also need to be resilient and be committed to continuous development.

As a home manager, I am here to support colleagues and to ensure we give residents the very best personalised care, and that they are happy, comfortable and safe. Knowing we make a real difference to people’s lives makes me proud of what we do here. It is also fantastic to see colleagues excel and progress in their own careers.

I have been lucky enough to have many career highlights. Ones that stand out include being able to support homes achieve outstanding CQC ratings and commissioning luxury care homes. Achieving a 10/10 for a home on carehome.co.uk was also another big highlight.

I have lots of interests outside of work, including science, particularly physics and biology. I like art, music and extreme sports, which I balance out with meditation. My focus though, is my family.
