Balmoral House is situated close to the centre of Scunthorpe in prestigious Old Brumby. All bedrooms are en suite, beautifully decorated and tastefully furnished. There is a choice of lounge and dining areas as well as a hairdressing salon and coffee bar. The home is centred around a delightful, private courtyard where residents can relax or help tend the plants and vegetables.

Their excellent team of dedicated, experienced carers treat everyone as an individual and work hard to ensure residents, their families and friends all feel at home.

Tailored activities and entertainment are offered throughout the week at Balmoral House and the freshly prepared, nutritious meals are home cooked. Special dietary requirements can also be catered for. Trips out by minibus are arranged regularly.

The purpose-built home, which opened in August 2012, predominately provides care for older people and those with needs relating to dementia.

The home is owned by Kapil Care Homes Ltd which also operates two other care homes in Scunthorpe.

From Dad arriving in June, we, as a family, have been very impressed with Balmoral House. This includes professionalism of the staff, the respect shown to residents. I get a sense that people (carers) genuinely care for the residents and they are treated as individuals. Dad is more alert on visits and
not as withdrawn. I can only attribute this to him feeling more secure, engaged with and settled. Thank you.

My father came to Balmoral from the hospital. He was not very well at all. The staff have been absolutely amazing with him and played a big part in his recovery. The staff are a credit to this home and gave my dad everything he needed. Carers care, and these carers go above and beyond. Always felt welcome.
Lovely manager and staff. Balmoral is what caring is all about. Thank you for being there for us as a family and also for the support given to my dad, and for making us all welcome.

I honestly cannot speak highly enough. My dad was already a resident when we brought my mum to Balmoral for end-of-life care.
We were all scooped up as a family and we all felt loved and cared for.
We couldn't have wished for more and all of the staff whatever their role are like one big family that
you become a part of.
The gentle way they cared for her was as though they loved her and she has felt that, which to us, is priceless.

As my mum grew frailer she became more dependent on the kind care you provided. Your rating is well deserved! My mum liked how she could make it her room and enjoyed the catering. I am in awe of all the events and activities you enthusiastically arrange for the residents. She was a resident for thirteen
months. I would echo other opinions that state it is well managed with very friendly staff in a good quality, purpose-built home. My mother loved chatting to the staff who always had time for her. I always felt Mum was safe with you and the care you provided. My sincere thanks.

Our mum was in Balmoral House care home from November 2022 until she sadly passed away in March 2023.
The staff were excellent, all very hardworking, professional and caring. They looked after the family also. My sister would also stay for meals with Mum to help her settle in.
At first, Mum was in
a room in the upstairs area in which she didn’t settle, but the staff were quick to act and soon got Mum moved to a lovely quiet area downstairs.

My mum moved to Balmoral House care home in February 2023. I cannot thank the staff enough, who have all been wonderful for the care and support they have given her. They have made her feel at home and always show a genuine interest in her well-being. The staff keep me informed if there are any issues.
She is able to socialise with other residents during the day through activities, meal times or just meeting up for a chat. Having taught catering during her life she is always praising the quality of the food which is cooked on-site. The atmosphere created at Balmoral is one of warmth, friendship and care. It's a lovely place for my mum to live.

My father was admitted into Balmoral House at the beginning of January 2023. During his stay, he has been treated with dignity and respect. The care he receives is excellent and all of the staff have done their best for Dad and us as a family, acknowledging how difficult and distressing it can be for
all the family when a loved one suddenly becomes dependent on others and needs 24-hour care in a nursing home. I have given an excellent for activities because the staff do the best they can with the resources they have. However, it is impossible to take wheelchair-bound patients out on a visit due to the lack of availability of wheelchair taxis/buses. It would be an asset to the care home if they had a minibus accessible for wheelchairs then all the residents would, could and should enjoy a change of scenery.

My grandad is treated with the dignity and respect he deserves. There are always plenty of activities going on around the home and lots of choices for everyone's preferences. The staff are extremely considerate and will always uphold privacy when we come to visit. The care provided here is excellent,

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.446)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.446) out of 10 for Balmoral House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.979 for Balmoral House is calculated as follows: ( (93 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 95 Ratings = 4.979
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.467 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Balmoral House is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 12 = 0.667
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
