My late mother passed away in Goldenhill Nursing Home in October 2022. She had been there since 2018. She was looked after extremely well. I knew that she could be stubborn and cantankerous but the care that she received was exceptional. She was always treated with dignity and respect. She frequently
had her hair done and the chiropodist visited often, she always looked clean and smart. She enjoyed the food and the tea and coffee were always hot and not served tepid like many places I've visited. I once had a phone call from the caring staff asking me if I could think of anything she particularly liked to eat or drink that they could tempt her with as she was off her food. She stayed in her room through her own choice but she was never forgotten and staff would often pop in on her to check on her well-being. I would not hesitate in recommending Goldenhill Nursing Home to anyone who is looking for a good all-round nursing/residential home. I'd be happy to chat with anyone who is indecisive.

The most friendly, professional nursing home you would want to visit. Credit to all staff that make Goldenhill Nursing Home the place it is, in the challenging job roles they face daily. Nothing was too much trouble and they kept me informed on Mum's progress. Massive thank you.

My parents were both moved into Goldenhill Nursing Home as a temporary measure after coming out of the hospital. Both of my parents have complex needs and present with a variety of medical challenges. At times, both of my parents can be a little stubborn. I can honestly say that the staff at Goldenhill
were outstanding. The care home manager made herself available to have detailed discussions with me about my parents' progress and future needs. The care staff in the home were patient, caring, personable and always highly professional. Seeing them in action with my parents made me feel totally reassured that my parents were receiving excellent care throughout their stay. My mum nearly fainted once whilst seated in the dining hall. The staff were quick to respond with gentleness and reassurance. I would highly recommend Goldenhill.

My 93-year-old mother was referred to Goldenhill Nursing Home from the hospital for assessment for her long-term residential care.
She was there for nearly a complete month and was treated very well, with dignity and great compassion. She can be very difficult and awkward at times yet she absolutely
loved the place and it brought out her normal own friendly character to the fore and she soon became the talk of the staff.
I would highly recommend the Goldenhill Nursing Home to anyone who is facing a similar scenario with one of their loved ones.

My cousin was admitted to Goldenhill for interim care after being confined to bed after a clinical fracture of the lower leg in the hospital. The home took every care of her and she was taken to the lounge as soon as possible to mix with other residents. The staff were very kind to her and helpful to
me. They answered my questions and helped with her discharge to a nursing home of my choice. I would recommend this nursing home as a good place for a relative to go to. Thank you.

My mum came to Goldenhill Nursing Home for assessment following the sudden death of my dad. They were together for 65 years and as you can imagine being placed in care was incredibly traumatic for her. Mum remained in Goldenhill for eight weeks. I can honestly say the care she received from the manager
and her team was exceptional. The team treated Mum with compassion, empathy and dignity. They looked after her so well and nothing was too much trouble. Every time I visited to take Mum out (which was regularly) Mum was presented immaculately and the staff crowded around her when she came back, interested to find out what she'd been up to. Had it not been for the fact that I needed Mum closer to myself in Preston, we would have willingly made Goldenhill her home. When I finally moved Mum, the staff were genuinely sad to see her go and even gave her presents. I would have no hesitation in recommending Goldenhill. Your loved one will be in safe hands.
Reply from Angela Hodson, home manager at Goldenhill Nursing HomeThank you so much for your kind words, I will feed this back to the team. It was a privilege to be part of Mum's journey, Mum is missed in the care home although we are pleased that she has settled in her new home and we are sure that Mum is thoroughly enjoying your shopping trips and afternoon teas!
Once again, thank you for taking your time to share your experience of Goldenhill Nursing Home.

My mum moved to Goldenhill Nursing Home in April 2021 after suffering a major stroke but sadly passed on 24th March. The staff over the last 11 months have looked after and supported both my mum and me through what has been a very difficult time! Nothing was too much trouble and many would go out of
their way to accommodate Mum's needs and wants. This has given me great peace of mind that Mum was being cared for to a high standard when I was not there. Thank you to all the staff for the care, love and understanding.

On first impressions mum's care was good. The food looked lovely and the home, even though dated was clean. The staff were pleasant. Over time I felt that mum wasn’t having her needs seen to. On occasions when we visited she had no water on her tray. I had to ask for some. Also, the buzzer was initially
on her tray where she could easily reach to press it. Later on it was back on the wall out of reach. Mum was bedridden. Various clothes went missing and on one occasion she was wearing someone else’s top. I get that the home was short-staffed due to covid but it’s the small things that make a huge difference to the resident and family. Mum was in pain and I often phoned the home to ask for stronger pain relief. We finally got mum home where she died peacefully a few days later.
Reply from Angela Hodson, Registered manager at Goldenhill Nursing HomeThank you for your review and for the points that you raised. Firstly may we offer our condolences for the loss of your mum, she was a lovely lady and we were very privileged to have cared for her. It is lovely to hear that you were welcomed to the home and that you did have positive first impressions. I am so sorry to then read that your expectations were not met and that you did not feel that we were meeting your mum's needs. As you stated, it is little things that are important and we should always aim to meet these needs also to make both the resident's and the family's time with us better. I understand that this was a very difficult time for you as a family and we did want to keep your mum comfortable and get her back home to you as you wished. Again may I apologise that you have not been left with a positive experience of your mum's care and we will take your comments on board and learn from them in the future with other residents.

Both of my in-laws are residents at Goldenhill and have been there for over 12 months. They have different care needs and receive excellent individual care and attention. The home is always clean and so are the residents who are treated with dignity at all times. The care staff go that extra mile so
my in-laws can spend time together which is important to the both of them and us as they have been married for over 60 years. We have always felt very welcome and supported by all staff and nothing is too much trouble for them. The staff are the beating heart of the home and fill it with love and care and at all times.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.859)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.859) out of 10 for Goldenhill Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.657 for Goldenhill Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (52 Excellents x 5) + (14 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 70 Ratings = 4.657
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.202 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Goldenhill Nursing Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 = 3.55
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 46 registered maximum number of service users is 9.2. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.2 = 0.652
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
