For the last three months, my sister has been a resident at Goldenhill Nursing Home receiving palliative care. It is a caring, compassionate and welcoming place with a good atmosphere where you can feel reassured that your relative is being safely looked after with excellent medical and physical support
to help them through their daily health struggles - a massive plus which gives relatives peace of mind.
Management and staff are really friendly and approachable both to my sister and her family when they visit. They act immediately on any changes regarding her deteriorating health to keep her comfortable.
All meals are excellent with plenty of choices. Residents can have their own televisions, photos and mementoes in their own rooms to personalise them and make them feel homely. Activities are on offer indoors and outdoors (inc. Fairs, BBQ's and Concerts) and residents and their visitors are encouraged to join in. Wi-Fi, Hairdressing and Chiropody services are available on-site.

Hi, My mom has been at Goldenhill now for just over a year. She is 94 and not very mobile. The staff are always very helpful and kind to my mom and me. Its seems a happy place for the residents and the people that work there. My mom has her hair permed about once a month at the salon there. She is happy
and contented. A couple of times because of her health, she has had to go to the hospital, both times one of the staff were kind enough to go with her and stay at the hospital, till I could get there. The home is always very clean and no smells. Some times I visit my mom when they feed her, the food always looks tasty as if its home made. The manager is always very helpful and free for a chat.

My brother has been in Goldenhill Nursing home for about nine months now. If you are looking for a home for a loved one please look at this home, it is one of the best in Stoke on Trent. I have family members who work in other homes and some of the stories they tell are not too good i.e. smells, abuse,
unskilled staff. Well I can honestly say Goldenhill is like being at home. I could live there myself, staff are brill. Nurses are great with patients and cleaners are spot on. As for the manager, he is brill, he is a nurse himself so he knows wot patients wont and need and he makes sure they get it. The staff treat patients as if they are their own family. My brother loves it there - he says it like being in a hotel. He was very independent before being took ill so he was hard to please. The first few days he said how good it was.

My father was placed in the home approximately 9 months ago and since then we have has no reason to find any fault with the home. The staff are very pleasant and approachable and nothing is too much trouble for them. The home is very clean at all times as are the residents rooms.the food provided is
excellent and there is a wide choice at all times. The staff and management go out of their way to create a very homely feel and they not only take the considerations of the residents on board but also of the family as well.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.859)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.859) out of 10 for Goldenhill Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.657 for Goldenhill Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (52 Excellents x 5) + (14 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 70 Ratings = 4.657
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.202 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Goldenhill Nursing Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 = 3.55
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 46 registered maximum number of service users is 9.2. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.2 = 0.652
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
