Review from G T (Husband of Resident) published on 22 May 2024 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

My wife has been in residence for about two weeks, and although it took a while for her to settle in she now appears reasonably content. The welcome she received, with an attractive card, and a friendly relationship offered to me as well, was much appreciated, particularly after a difficult period in hospital. The staff always appears to be cheerful and willing to help as much as possible, though I think she feels that calls for help sometimes seem to take rather a long time to materialize. The room is very pleasant and the appearance of cats at the window is always welcome, largely due to a life spent in their company. I realise that activities are minimal as she is bedridden, but she appreciates the company, and if any staff have spare time for a chat. That would always go down well.

The care given to residents is excellent and all efforts are made to ensure, wherever possible, residents are dressed, got up and taken to the dining room and lounge.
The food is first-class, with plenty of choice.
The layout is easy and safe with exits blocked but still access to outside space which is so important.

Staff are all friendly and on first-name terms with visitors and residents. The care does not come cheap but it is well above average.

My mother and stepfather came for respite care for two weeks. Both had different needs but these were easily accommodated and met. The staff are all helpful, cheerful and caring and whilst both were a little uncertain at the beginning, they soon settled and enjoyed taking part in the activities. Dietary requirements were also accommodated.

I spent 4 weeks in respite care at Ashchurch View home and I can honestly say that I was made very welcome and always treated with respect and dignity. All of the staff were extremely kind and caring and always prepared to help if it was needed. I would not hesitate to recommend Ashchurch View to anyone who needed care or respite. The accommodation was excellent and the food adequate, if somewhat late at times.

It was my mums 94th birthday on April 8th and we haven’t been able to celebrate with her for a while. We asked the home if we could have a party for her and 20 members of her family.
We were given a private room and the staff couldn’t do enough for us. They provided us with a fabulous buffet at a reasonable cost. Tea and coffee were provided on our arrival.
Mum thoroughly enjoyed her day celebrating with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mum is very happy in the home the staff are very caring and professional. On a day to day basis mum seems quite content and happy and well looked after by all the great staff.

Overall Experience

I came for respite care straight from the hospital where I had surgery. I had to have a low-fibre diet because of the aftermath of the operation. This was excellently provided for me. After being in a ward of six, I found the private room with my own shower room very restful, day and night. I was able to sleep better than I did in the hospital. I realised the home was short-staffed (with an acting manager) as meals in the dining room took time (This did not worry me as I had to eat slowly). The staff were very helpful, I even had a cup of tea early in the morning, unlike the hospital there was no pressure on me to get up at a set time. A criticism is that the light in the shower room was dim and there was no main shaving point there.

The staff on York ward have been so kind and attentive during the last few weeks of my father-in-law's life. They treated him with dignity and made him comfortable and chatted with him every time they came into the room, even when he was unconscious. All staff were very helpful with updates when we weren't able to visit. A lovely, friendly home.

Being appointed as Deputy Manager has been the highlight of my career so far and I'm really enjoying working in the private care sector.

Hello, my name is John and I'm delighted to be the Head Chef here at Ashchurch View.

Life before food was all about horses where I lived and breathed everything to do with the racing world. This came to an abrupt end when my horse and the upcoming jump had a 'disagreement'.

After my accident I decided to study food and have been fortunate to take my skills to locations worldwide, adding vibrance and flavour to my knowledge pot.

I joined the Barchester team in 2017 and really enjoy working within the elderly care sector as it's not just about tasty food but also about nutrition and planning a balanced diet for our residents.

It is great getting to know the residents individually and it's a pleasure to work for them as I get to try out new recipes and of course, old favourites. Diet is so important and I thrive at producing nutritious, seasonal, fresh and delicious recipes for our residents I believe this translates into the food I and the kitchen team, serve.

Jenny Clutterbuck
Jenny ClutterbuckJob Title:AdministratorJoined: 2026

Hi, I’m Jenny, and I joined the team here at Ashchurch Care Home in 2026. I originally stepped into this role on a one-year maternity cover contract, but I am absolutely loving my time here. It is such a wonderful environment, and I truly hope to progress and build a long-term career within the company.

For me, the absolute best part of the job is engaging with our residents and being able to spend quality time with them away from my desk. Please do pop by and say hello.

I look forward to meeting all the residents' family members and finally putting names to faces! And meeting new residents as I support them through their time in the home.

My ultimate goal is to ensure the home runs like a well-oiled machine, showing that with the right teamwork, nothing is unachievable. I have studied Hotel and Catering at college and worked in that industry until my first son was born. After a period as a stay-at-home mum, I returned to work as a Practice Manager at a veterinary clinic.

From there, I moved into care, spending 18 incredibly rewarding years working at a home for young disabled adults. I knew those skills would transfer beautifully to elderly care, and it has given me a wonderful new challenge that I find deeply fulfilling.

Outside of work, my life is wonderfully busy. I have been happily married to my husband for 40 years. When I'm not spending time with family, you can usually find me sewing, solving crosswords, reading, or serving as a churchwarden at my local parish church. I am also a massive supporter of our local cricket team, and I am very proud to say my cricket teas have a reputation for being the absolute best around!
