Since our first meeting, the staff have been helpful and welcoming. The care that Mum has been given has always been excellent as has the communication with myself and also the help given to me making difficult decisions has been immensely helpful.

Overall Experience

My mother has been a resident now for 5 years and during that time has been well cared for. There have been issues at times with staffing and management but these appear to have been addressed in recent months and improving greatly. Likewise the activities on offer have greatly improved thanks to a new team.

I was very impressed with the care and thought that went into the planning of my mother's 100th birthday recently. Everyone involved, including management, carers, cooks and cleaners seemed to take pride in making this a very special time for my mother. She feels very much a part of a "family" at the home.

We are very fortunate that we are in a position to fund a home of this quality at present - my mother appreciates the attractive surroundings, ensuite room and comfortable communal areas. It is a pleasure to visit. Ultimately, however, the only thing that concerns me is that my mother is happy and comfortable and well supported by staff. I believe this to be the case.

My father has only been in one night.
Upon arrival, the assistant manager was very forceful in trying to get my father to eat and drink despite me explaining he hadn't eaten in five days and was clearly exhausted from transport.

When I left my father seemed happy but upon returning the next day he was a little upset because the night carers had been responding to his calls with the response 'it's going to be a while until we get to you' and turning his call off, resulting in him wetting the bed.

Staff leaving mum to dress herself in the mornings, which is a good thing while she still can.
However, a couple of times visiting her in the afternoon she has been sat with only a jumper on her top half but no bra or vest on underneath.

Might be a good idea for someone to put her clothes out ready for her to put on.

The staff at the care home are excellent in attitude towards the residents.
I have never had any concerns about my mother's safety.
Sometimes I feel her room could be cleaner.
It is difficult for me to comment on the activities as my mother is not one to join in.
She enjoys the music sessions.

Overall I think the staff make this a good home.

Warm, friendly environment. Always clean and no smells either in the home or personal hygiene.
Kind, caring and very efficient staff who are always happy to talk through problems.
Sometimes staff can be a little thin on the ground and the turnover is quite high. They are deserving of much higher rates of pay!

Senior management is inconsistent - four managers in the last five years since the home opened.

Mum has been at Ashchurch View for four years now and the staff have kept her in excellent health for her age (97 years). The carers and managers relate to her in a caring and fun way despite her having Alzheimer's disease. She has a beautiful room with high-end comfortable furnishings. There are regular entertainments such as singing, parties, animal visits e.g. PAT dogs and trips out. Customised menus and excellent personal care.

Hello, my name is Sam, and I am the General Manager here at Ashchurch View. Welcome to our website!

I have gained a wealth of experience within the health and social care sector and I began my nursing career in Guyana (South America) since then I have worked as a registered nurse and midwife. I then moved to the UK in 2004 working as a registered nurse in the NHS and care sector before going onto securing the role of Deputy Home Manager. Hello, I'm Becky the Deputy Manager here at Ashchurch View Care Home.

Being appointed as Deputy Manager has been the highlight of my career so far and I'm really enjoying working in the private care sector.

Before joining Barchester, I worked for the NHS, but have always been drawn back into care of the elderly.

As a Deputy Manager, it is important to be diligent, organised and with a keen eye for detail but be caring and demonstrate the compassion which is imperative to this role. I'm very hard-working, have good interpersonal skills and I'm fully committed to the home and providing best-in-class care.

I'm proud to be working with such a fantastic team who makes a difference each and every day in the resident's lives. I love to see our residents enjoying the activities we put on in the home and it has become my favourite part of my working day. .

I relish supporting the Ashchurch View care team and I'm excited about our care journey where we are pushing to go from 'Good to Outstanding’.

Should you ever wish to talk with me, please don't hesitate to come and find me or pick up the telephone, I'm here to help.

Hello, my name is John and I'm delighted to be the Head Chef here at Ashchurch View.

Life before food was all about horses where I lived and breathed everything to do with the racing world. This came to an abrupt end when my horse and the upcoming jump had a 'disagreement'.

After my accident I decided to study food and have been fortunate to take my skills to locations worldwide, adding vibrance and flavour to my knowledge pot.

I joined the Barchester team in 2017 and really enjoy working within the elderly care sector as it's not just about tasty food but also about nutrition and planning a balanced diet for our residents.

It is great getting to know the residents individually and it's a pleasure to work for them as I get to try out new recipes and of course, old favourites. Diet is so important and I thrive at producing nutritious, seasonal, fresh and delicious recipes for our residents I believe this translates into the food I and the kitchen team, serve.

Jenny Clutterbuck
Jenny ClutterbuckJob Title:AdministratorJoined: 2026

Hi, I’m Jenny, and I joined the team here at Ashchurch Care Home in 2026. I originally stepped into this role on a one-year maternity cover contract, but I am absolutely loving my time here. It is such a wonderful environment, and I truly hope to progress and build a long-term career within the company.

For me, the absolute best part of the job is engaging with our residents and being able to spend quality time with them away from my desk. Please do pop by and say hello.

I look forward to meeting all the residents' family members and finally putting names to faces! And meeting new residents as I support them through their time in the home.

My ultimate goal is to ensure the home runs like a well-oiled machine, showing that with the right teamwork, nothing is unachievable. I have studied Hotel and Catering at college and worked in that industry until my first son was born. After a period as a stay-at-home mum, I returned to work as a Practice Manager at a veterinary clinic.

From there, I moved into care, spending 18 incredibly rewarding years working at a home for young disabled adults. I knew those skills would transfer beautifully to elderly care, and it has given me a wonderful new challenge that I find deeply fulfilling.

Outside of work, my life is wonderfully busy. I have been happily married to my husband for 40 years. When I'm not spending time with family, you can usually find me sewing, solving crosswords, reading, or serving as a churchwarden at my local parish church. I am also a massive supporter of our local cricket team, and I am very proud to say my cricket teas have a reputation for being the absolute best around!
