Staff leaving mum to dress herself in the mornings, which is a good thing while she still can.
However, a couple of times visiting her in the afternoon she has been sat with only a jumper on her top half but no bra or vest on underneath.
Might be a good idea for someone to put her clothes out ready
for her to put on.

The staff at the care home are excellent in attitude towards the residents.
I have never had any concerns about my mother's safety.
Sometimes I feel her room could be cleaner.
It is difficult for me to comment on the activities as my mother is not one to join in.
She enjoys the music sessions.

Warm, friendly environment. Always clean and no smells either in the home or personal hygiene.
Kind, caring and very efficient staff who are always happy to talk through problems.
Sometimes staff can be a little thin on the ground and the turnover is quite high. They are deserving of much higher rates
of pay!
Senior management is inconsistent - four managers in the last five years since the home opened.

Mum has been at Ashchurch View for four years now and the staff have kept her in excellent health for her age (97 years). The carers and managers relate to her in a caring and fun way despite her having Alzheimer's disease. She has a beautiful room with high-end comfortable furnishings. There are regular
entertainments such as singing, parties, animal visits e.g. PAT dogs and trips out. Customised menus and excellent personal care.

My mother-in-law is in the nursing wing of Ashchurch View. She is very well cared for and I have peace of mind when I leave after visiting her.

I know that the staff are kind and understand her physical difficulties. They treat her with dignity and endeavour to care for her in the best possible way.

I am confident that they will contact me if they are in any doubt about her care.

My husband spent some weeks at Ashchurch View last year and we were so pleased with the care we brought him back earlier this year. This time he was much less able to care for himself physically. Gradually he lost his ability to communicate verbally. There continued to be excellent care from all
the staff, right up to the time he died. All staff were caring, efficient and sympathetic. The care home was new, well designed, light and clean - very pleasant

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.630)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.630) out of 10 for Barchester Ashchurch View is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 38 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 38 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.630 for Barchester Ashchurch View is calculated as follows: ( (302 Excellents x 5) + (123 Goods x 4) + (21 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 446 Ratings = 4.63
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Ashchurch View is based on 38 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 38 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Life before food was all about horses where I lived and breathed everything to do with the racing world. This came to an abrupt end when my horse and the upcoming jump had a 'disagreement'.

After my accident I decided to study food and have been fortunate to take my skills to locations worldwide, adding vibrance and flavour to my knowledge pot.

I joined the Barchester team in 2017 and really enjoy working within the elderly care sector as it's not just about tasty food but also about nutrition and planning a balanced diet for our residents.

It is great getting to know the residents individually and it's a pleasure to work for them as I get to try out new recipes and of course, old favourites. Diet is so important and I thrive at producing nutritious, seasonal, fresh and delicious recipes for our residents I believe this translates into the food I and the kitchen team, serve.
