From my first look around in seeking the right place for my 95 and a half-year-old dad, I was so impressed by the warm, friendly and lively atmosphere of the care home. Everywhere was clean, attractive, spacious and my dad had a lovely big room with a beautiful outlook that he loved. All the staff were
so welcoming, friendly and treated people with genuine care and dignity. Dad was allowed to have so many different things from his home in his room - recliner chair, lamps, computer and computer table, lots of his big photos and wall clock and a lovely big bird station outside his patio doors...Home from home that helped him settle in quickly. He was in safe hands and received wonderful care from everyone. I visited 2 afternoons a week and there were a real atmosphere and good communication system between staff and family visitors. Dad enjoyed the food very much and our visits to the cafe in the home. He also, being an animal lover looked forward to seeing Holly the Collie who visited every week with his owner. When he was unwell, he received excellent, efficient care very speedily. We really valued the wonderful staff.

My husband is disabled and needs 24 hour care. I had an operation to remove my gallbladder and he was looked after as a respite patient in Ashchurch View. He was treated with dignity and humour and felt his stay there was a 'home from home' rather than a care home.

Mom has been a resident here since February 2016 and in May the decision was taken to move her upstairs into nursing care, where she has flourished - in part due to the higher ratio of staff who care for her with kindness and where possible, engaging her in activities. Many of them go the extra mile
to help enrich the lives of residents within the boundaries of their complex needs. All the staff I have met have been very friendly, polite and approachable and will listen to any concerns I may have, as best as it can be with Mom no longer able to live independently. She has settled here.

My mother had end of life care at this home (she had M.N.D) and my husband (Parkinson's disease and Lewey Body Dementia) - I cant praise this home enough. They are all dedicated staff committed to provide the best environment possible. They have provided the utmost support to myself, mum's family and
my husbands. I consider them all as part of my extended family. Why aren't homes like this featured in the news? I am sure all the homes in the Barchester group are the same.

Both my parents were residents of Ashchurch View until my mother's death last year; my father continues to be a resident at this wonderful care home. When they both moved in, they had very different needs (my mother had dementia, my father had poor mobility), but the staff went out of their way to accommodate
them and we were lucky that they were able to keep them together for as long as possible.
The staff are always professional and caring; they respect the dignity of the residents and get to know them individually, so that they can respond to their individual needs (this applies not only to the carers, but also to the housekeeping and kitchen staff). As a relative, the staff have also offered me reassurance and support, particularly during the last few weeks of my mother's life. My father never wanted to lose his independence, but it is testament to the wonderful care he receives that he is content and consistently complementary about the home and its staff.

My mother was admitted into the dementia unit in July 2015. She has settled in well and we have such peace of mind that she is safe. All the permanent members of staff who work there are absolutely wonderful. They look after mum with such love and dignity and they have got to know her and respond well
to her needs. They also care for us too - nothing is too much for them. They are very loving and dedicated team of amazing staff. Thank you all.
Also, the management team, reception staff and office staff have always been very welcoming, and approachable, and we feel able to come to them with any concerns we might have. Thank you again - all of you!

An excellent care home, with caring and well-motivated staff. The staff understand that relatives of dementia sufferers also need care and support. Usually staffing levels are good, but occasionally there seems to be a shortfall. You can never have too many staff, especially on a dementia unit.

My Mum is a longer term resident of Barchester homes (14 years), and she has been at Ashchurch since it opened a few years ago. We moved to this home from another Barchester home because we knew we could depend on the best professional care and this new home has lovely big bedrooms, excellent communal
areas, wide hallways for passing wheelchairs and beautifully designed courtyard garden. My Mum has her own patch of garden to tend and the carers help her do this. Think on the design of this home there has been no stinting on the facilities. The staff are very friendly, discreet and caring; I have no doubt that Mum is well looked after. She moved from a 'young unit' to this home with a mainly elderly population and although she is only 70, she has made some lovely friends amongst other residents and carers.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.630)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.630) out of 10 for Barchester Ashchurch View is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 38 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 38 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.630 for Barchester Ashchurch View is calculated as follows: ( (302 Excellents x 5) + (123 Goods x 4) + (21 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 446 Ratings = 4.63
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Ashchurch View is based on 38 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 38 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Life before food was all about horses where I lived and breathed everything to do with the racing world. This came to an abrupt end when my horse and the upcoming jump had a 'disagreement'.

After my accident I decided to study food and have been fortunate to take my skills to locations worldwide, adding vibrance and flavour to my knowledge pot.

I joined the Barchester team in 2017 and really enjoy working within the elderly care sector as it's not just about tasty food but also about nutrition and planning a balanced diet for our residents.

It is great getting to know the residents individually and it's a pleasure to work for them as I get to try out new recipes and of course, old favourites. Diet is so important and I thrive at producing nutritious, seasonal, fresh and delicious recipes for our residents I believe this translates into the food I and the kitchen team, serve.
