My wife and I are Methodist Church Pastoral Visitors for our church and our duties are to visit members who are housebound in care homes. We had the occasion to visit an elderly lady resident at Darwin Court and on entering Darwin, we were amazed and pleasantly surprised at the lovely reception area and visitors tea room. It was spacious, well lit with natural light, beautiful and tastefully decorated.
In my working life, I travelled throughout Europe and Scandinavia and my wife and I stayed in 5* hotels which rivalled Darwin Court for excellence. The lady we visited loved the home and said it was perfect in every way, offering her all that she needed and again to a high standard. She told us that she was happy and content at Darwin and arranged to stay for a longer period than intended.
The facilities and entertainment programme were planned to entertain and stimulate the residents. Should we ever need residential care, I cannot think of any better establishment than Darwin Court.

Finally, a word about all the staff, they were courteous, always smiling, helpful and a joy to meet and speak with.

The staff are very good and friendly, although at times not enough available to hoist my husband from chair to wheelchair when I want to take him out hence we have to wait for 45 minutes or more before someone is available. Same on return.

First impression beautiful building and lots of room for those in wheelchairs and nice surroundings for family visitors. Greeted at the entrance by staff members, settled into very nice clean, spacious room. All information about my husband exchanged, plus conversation about medication and needs that my husband relied on. Invitations each day to join in and interact in activities. The carers not only did what was needed, they spent time with him and comforted him, reassuring him when I was not about felt comfortable to leave him in their hands, and would not hesitate to recommend Darwin Court as a care home service.

I enjoy visiting Darwin Court Care Home. The staff are cheerful and genuinely care for the residents. The residents are always well dressed. They enjoy the social activities and especially the singing. I feel there is always something going on and the residents all look happy.

I think this is a super place, I really do. The care is very good, unobtrusive but you know it is there. I was so lucky to have a door onto the garden. A lovely respite stay.

My room is of a beautiful size with a lovely view, I enjoy sitting on my bed watching the sunset. It's tastefully decorated, bright and homely. The two lounges are lovely and decorated beautifully. I enjoy sitting in the larger lounge when my family visit but choose the smaller lounge to sit and read in as very cosy. The roof garden is beautiful and much enjoyed and I use it often, looking forward to the nicer weather so I can enjoy it even more. I enjoy participating in the activities provided. The fruit bowl in the dining room is a lovely idea so we can help ourselves to fresh fruit. Thank you very much.

I think the care home is a secure and relaxing environment. I feel very safe in the home yet free to do as I wish. The management have taken care to select the best possible staff for this type of work. The home provides a good variation of activities and there is a roof garden which I enjoy. There are excellent catering facilities. All catering staff are fully trained. There is a wide variety of food to choose from.

I like my room very much, windows on two sides providing lots of light, large and decorated well, I particularly like the BBQ chicken and we get Vienetta which is my favourite. I really enjoy the music and movement workshop run together with the Garrick Theatre. I enjoy visiting the roof garden which is remarkably shielded from the wind.

Staff are very welcoming and caring to both my husband and family members who visit. I believe my husband receives high quality care that is specific to his needs. They know him well and understand his traits and quirks! We are always kept well informed of his health and any changes or incidents that occur. Thank you for looking after our most valuable possession.

My mother had been in hospital for eight weeks and was agitated and confused we believe was cause by a water infection. We decided to move her when medially cleared. The friendly help and facilities have really helped her move towards recovery and indeed to back home.

Very good care generally but personal belongings not looked after and tend to go missing.
Although I know you need to employ agency staff but mostly they have no idea how to look after 1 to 1 residents and often cannot communicate in English, spending time on their mobile phones taking little notice of the person they should be looking after.
Information from one shift to another not always made known.

The permanent staff are excellent and overall build good relationships with relatives.

Kerry-Ann DerryJob Title:Home AdministratorJoined: 2019

I joined the Avery Healthcare Family in 2019 having spent my whole working life in the care sector, from a retirement village to care homes.

Before joining Avery, I was an Administrator Assistant for another care provider.

After leaving school I went to college to complete my Level 2 and Level 3 in Health and Social care.

I would consider myself as kind, caring, hard worker and empathetic. In my spare time, I like to spend time with my family, read and go for walks.

I am very proud to be part of the Darwin court family.
