Located in the pretty village of Iffley, the care home has beautiful large gardens in a very tranquil and peaceful setting.

Not only do the team provide residential, dementia, nursing and palliative care, they also provide respite care, which can be booked in advance. This is ideal if you are caring for a relative at home and would like to take a break, with the peace of mind of knowing the team are providing care and companionship.

There are so many places in the home for residents to relax with loved ones, who are welcome at any time. There is a cinema room for movie afternoons, welcoming lounges and dining rooms, where residents enjoy delicious home-cooked meals, with everything from roast dinners with all the trimmings to fish and chip Fridays. And there is always home-baking for afternoon tea and lighter bites for those with a smaller appetite.

There is a beautiful large garden and two smaller courtyard gardens, which have wheelchair friendly pathways and raised beds, for those who enjoy a spot of gardening. All of the bedrooms, which are spacious and ensuite, on the ground floor have patio doors leading to the gardens.

Iffley also has a hair and beauty salon for appointments with a mobile hairdresser and a spot of pampering. The team has also created a bar area, where the residents enjoy quizzes with their favourite tipple!

There is plenty to do at Iffley, from gentle exercise to arts and crafts. The team are also passionate about keeping residents connected to the community outside the home, so organise trips out in the home’s minibus.

This is my first experience of a residential care home and given all the critical reports about them in the media, I was apprehensive when my husband entered this one six months ago.


But that has turned out to be quite unnecessary. When I set out on my frequent visits to see him, I'm feeling depressed.

But on arrival, all members of staff are welcoming, warm, helpful and pleasant. My spirits rise. I have never seen a resident treated with anything but respect and friendly kindness.

Emails to the manager and admin are answered immediately. Always welcomed by staff here, I have arrived many times unannounced to find my mother being treated kindly by staff - unaware of my presence.
The receptionist is always smiling and welcoming.

I feel my husband is very safe and well cared for - the staff are very kind. My main concern is that sometimes the carers have too much to do and I feel they are under stress. This can make the atmosphere a little tense. I feel that when the carers are busy, the nurses should be more hands on. When
everyone is helping the atmosphere is lovely. Visitors don't mind feeding other residents to help out but not when nurses are not busy but not helping carers.

My mother settled very well into Iffley Residential and Nursing Home, even though she was reluctant to leave her own home. This was largely due to the welcome and care she received when she arrived. This has continued with staff who really care for each resident's individual needs.


She is encouraged

to join in the activities when she wants to and is alerted to them when they occur. Special events e.g the recent "cruising week", when there was also a party with a French theme, are fun and bring back memories which then become a topic of conversation, which continues for some time. Marvellous.

The atmosphere in the home is superb, friendly, cheerful and helpful both to residents and visiting relatives and friends. Whether it is the registered nurses, care assistants and the cleaners too. The care given is excellent and personalised to the recipient's needs.

My old boss was a resident at the Sanctuary Care Home, Iffley, Oxford for nearly a year and a half (I think).
She moved to the home from another home because her dementia had increased.
During her time at the Sanctuary Home, her dementia increased greatly.
It was very sad to see this, but it was
immensely comforting and reassuring to see the wonderful care provided by the staff.
It was extraordinary how they all seemed to know her as an individual, and accepted her difficult behaviour as a consequence of her condition.
They were extraordinarily patient and good humoured. A number commented on her lovely smile. I went to sit with her when it was thought the end was near. She was in bed in her very pleasant room and the staff had arranged her bedding to make her as comfortable as possible. She died soon after I left. I think she had a peaceful end.

My mother came to Iffley Residential and Nursing Home ten months ago after a stressful period, when I was helping her to move out of her flat on the south coast. The welcome she received on arrival was very reassuring and she almost immediately began to seem more relaxed and rested. The care and consideration
of the staff and their efforts to help her retain her independence, made her feel at home very quickly and enabled us to take a summer holiday without worrying. Since then, she has continued to settle in, relying increasingly on the relationships with the carers in the home. My mother was not an obvious candidate for a residential home, being a fairly shy person who needs her privacy. This has been entirely respected at Iffley and the staff make huge efforts to facilitate and manage social interactions between residents for their mutual benefits. I cannot imagine an environment where she could be happier.

My cousin had severe Dementia and her behaviour became very difficult. She was often aggressive to staff. Nevertheless, she was treated with great understanding and kindness by all the staff.
I was deeply impressed by the wonderful way they cared for her and never 'gave up' just because she was difficult
and hard to communicate with.
They never stopped trying and were always patient.

I want to compliment all the staff! My mum has lived at Iffley Care Home for about 3 years and has been very content.
Any small concerns have been addressed and sorted swiftly and patiently and larger problems - such as a persistent bad smell have resulted in the en-suite being replaced. The manager
has responded and has been very approachable and helpful. Thank you everyone - the staff appear universally to be caring and gentle!

At all levels, staff are approachable and communicative and friendly. The position in the edge of Oxford means visits from friends and family are relatively easy.
Rules and regulations are kept to the minimum and are elastic.
Food - Quantities are enormous. Far too much, too often.
My wife died
here recently (of old age). The staff could not have been more sympathetic, kind and helpful.
However, it is not home. I would leave tomorrow if I could.

My overall impression (I visit most days) is that the staff are not just competent and professional, but that there is a culture of kindness in the way they work.
New residents are helped gently to adjust to what is for most a great change in their way of life.

Mum moved from Yorkshire to Oxford so we could be part of each other’s lives, while ensuring she was cared for on a day to day basis as she was no longer able to organise her thoughts enough to run her life alone. The team are genuinely caring, loving and patient and always wonderful at smoothing the
way on the occasional times when mum didn’t want us leave her after time together.
The home has a fresh feel, nice bedrooms, lounge areas and garden where relatives and friends can spend time together. Key pad doors give safety but complete access for relatives and friends to visit at any time of the day, always felt reassuring. Whenever activities involved music, everyone knew to make sure mum joined in! We really benefited from how well all the staff knew mum when she had a short time in nursing care at the home.
I can recommend the home, staff and management team, they made a massive positive difference to the quality mum’s last few years of life and we knew she was safe and happy.

My aunt came to the home some time ago, I was her carer, she was unable to care for herself so I went to the care home to view it and it seemed very nice. Since she has been there it's like she has been given a new lease of life she goes to the toilet on her own and she feeds herself, none of this she
could do before. They are now moving her downstairs as she doesn't need the care of being on another level. She now loves it where she is, everyone at the home as simply the best, no complaints she is being well looked after. I truly recommend this home.

From the moment we came for first interview with the administrator, we were made to feel welcome, everything was clearly laid out for us and no pressure made to decide to stay. I have watched my neighbour, whom I recommended to you, change from a frightened isolated, vulnerable lady to a comfortable
secure individual joining in activities, singing and watching TV, something she hasn't done for years. Am so glad you are looking after her.

My mother-in-law now aged 96, needed to move into a nursing home following a debilitating infection and fall in her own home 2 years ago, which left her completely immobile and unable to care for or feed herself. Thanks to a combination of remarkable resolution on her part and patient considerate support
and encouragement from the staff at Iffley she managed to regain enough mobility, now using a zimmer frame to give her back some pleasure in life. I remain very impressed at the quality of care at Iffley. One couldn't ask for more professional carers and nurses.

The Iffley Home looked after both my parents to the end of their days, and in an exemplary way. It is a custom built home, so the facilities are excellently suited to purpose. But the most important thing in any care home is the staff at Iffley, they are genuinely caring, gentle and loving, and unfailingly
cheerful. We had complete confidence in both the staff and management.

I had been caring for my husband for five years and I had to accept, albeit with difficulty, that I couldn't do it anymore. I spent many days looking for a suitable nursing home but couldn't find any which satisfied me. My criteria was simple; if I could live there then it would be fine for my husband.
His GP suggested I visited your home. I have to say you were not on my list because of the negative CQC report but I was pleasantly surprised. My husband was admitted on 3rd August 2015. Difficult beginnings but he is now settled. The nursing staff and carers have been excellent, supported by a remarkable manager. My husband and I had a very pleasant Christmas lunch which was a real bonus. I just hope that in the future, the nursing staff will be able to attend to his needs, thus averting the trauma of having to go into hospital.
