Clean, fresh, staff very helpful. Impressed with St Margaret's. My friend's room, balcony and view is lovely. 2 visits from myself and Waffles the dog! One in room and 1 in garden bit! Had 3 years bad experience few years ago with my mother in a care home in Edinburgh I just wish mum had come to St Margaret's.

My friend for ever 55 years moved into St Margaret's in December 2024. During this entire time, he has received first class care across all aspects of his package in the care home.
All his POA, I have been well informed and treated with the same high level of respect that my friend has had.

I have complete confidence in the staff and would highly recommend St Margaret's to others seeking quality care.

My mother has been in here just over a year, she came in as she was feeling unsafe and frightened. I have seen a big difference in her now, she's happy, feels safe and secure, eating well and enjoying life again, the staff are excellent with her, always friendly and smiling when with my mother. I also see that she has her favourites, which have gone above and beyond to comfort her when she is upset or distressed in anyway. I am very happy with the care my mum gets, excellent care home.

My mum was admitted for end-of-life care the end of January. From the get go, the care mum received was amazing. Every member of staff that looked after mum was highly professional and genuinely seemed to care about her.
When she deteriorated we were invited to stay with her and contact anyone else who wished to be there. For four nights we, as a family, were overwhelmed by the kindness of the carers and the nursing staff. Nothing was too much effort, we were offered endless refreshments, food and even had cakes made especially for us by the chef.

This made a very difficult time so much easier. When mum passed away we were given time to spend with her, which was so precious. Care homes often get a bad reputation but this totally changed our perspective. We really don't think mum could've been cared for any better. Everyone was wonderful but a special mentions must to seven staff members in particular. We can't thank you all enough.

My nan has been a resident here for some time now, and I can't speak highly enough of the care and attention she receives. From the moment she moved in, the staff have treated her with such kindness, making her feel welcome and truly at home. The level of personalised care is remarkable and every need is met with patience and understanding, and they always go the extra mile to ensure she's comfortable and happy. The facilities are clean, safe, and well-maintained, and there's always something for the residents to enjoy, whether it's group activities or quiet time in the lovely garden. We have peace of mind knowing Nan is in a place where she is not only looked after physically, but also emotionally, with carers who genuinely care about her wellbeing. Thank you, to all the nurses and care assistants for providing such outstanding care to our beloved Nan!

Meet the Team (13)

Kate Martin
Kate MartinJob Title:Home ManagerJoined: 2019

What is your professional background?

I began nursing in 2010, where I worked in various areas of the NHS before moving over into the care home sector. Studying an MSc in the Health and Well-being of Older People gave me the skills and confidence to dedicate my career to this client group- an area I dearly love. I have previously held posts in Clinical Lead, Deputy Home Managers and Head of Care Lead Nurse positions while continuing to work for a local agency in supporting the NHS, Marie Curie and St Columba's Hospices. I have experience in General Surgery, Renal and GI, Gynaecology, Medical Assessment Unit, Cardiac High Dependency, Medicine of the Elderly and Palliative Care.

As well as being a home manager, you are also a registered nurse. Why did you first get into nursing?

Nursing found me. Following personal challenges in my own life, I found that my empathy and compassion for people developed and the need to help others became my focus. It's a phenomenal responsibility being a Nurse, and I feel very privileged to have been given this opportunity.

What one thing do you enjoy most about your job?

I enjoy the challenge of being a new Home Manager and the fast-paced, ever-changing environment that is care. The position I am in allows me to see care delivery from all angles while building a service that is true to the needs of the individual.

What was a defining moment for you?

Providing palliative care to a 34-year-old lady with stomach cancer. At the time I cared for her, she had a son the same age as mine and had been diagnosed 2 weeks before her death. I learnt that day the importance of living in the moment and being thankful for my family and son. You can't dictate the future, but you can enjoy the present.?

What interests you outside of work?

I am a huge sports fan with special interests in rugby and football. Manchester United is where my heart will always be. I also enjoy walking with my dogs and spending time with my 5-year-old son. I also enjoy watching movies, especially Sci-fi and thrillers, as well as listening regularly to music. I have a personal interest in German history and sport.
