My mother was a resident at St Margaret's from October 2018. During this time she was amazingly well cared for and the team were just fantastic. Their communication was great and we knew she was happy. Sadly she passed away in May of this year.
I felt utterly compelled to write a letter of thanks
to the entire team who at this difficult time with a pandemic have continued to strive to provide the very best level of care they can and how amazing they are to turn up day after day to face the challenges that are presented in this situation. We must all rally around all the staff and recognise that they are working amazingly hard in the most challenging of circumstances and are protecting the residents to the very best level that they can.
We all have a duty to support these amazing people and to recognise and support the challenging decisions made to protect the residents.
Please support the staff, recognise their efforts and be kind to them all.

I would like to let you know how grateful we are that we were able to visit our dad yesterday after so many weeks and to find him looking so well. We can only imagine the additional stress you and your staff have been working under in your battle with COVID-19 in the home and we can only try to say
how much we are sincerely grateful for the care and kindness you continue to deliver and how much we respect you and the staff to continue working under these conditions. It must be so difficult for any staff members who have tested positive for COVID-19 and potentially harbour feelings of guilt thinking they may have been a carrier of this into the home whilst being asymptotic. We would like to state that they should feel no guilt for turning up to work, as they had no control over this due to a lack of appropriate testing. We hope you and your staff are all able to find some time to ‘switch off’, relax and make time for yourselves - you all deserve that so much.

My grandmother has been living at St Margaret’s since the end of December and as much as she didn’t want to go into care, the welcome the team provided was exceptional. I know recently that times have been challenging and I have not been able to pop in for a cuddle, nonetheless, I know through the regular
updates received from the staff, they have given the best care I could have asked for. Nothing will show the amount of gratitude I have for St Margaret’s and each and every one of the team. The regular updates have given much peace of mind to our family so thank you for everything you do. Hopefully, see you all soon.

My family and I cannot thank all the staff enough for the care they have given my father especially during Covid, they work very hard to provide individual care to all the residents. I am so grateful he survived the virus. The staff have been very good at updating us about his condition.
It is so important
for residents to have contact with their families. We are a very close family and it has certainly helped my father and us to be able to visit him through the window.

My mum has been a resident at St Margaret’s for over six months now. The care she has received has been excellent. Everyone is so friendly, welcoming, kind and professional. There are lots of fun activities and trips out. The home is spotless. The food is good and plentiful, so much so that my Mum has
gone up a clothes size. My mum has really settled into her new home and very happy.

What a lovely home this is. St Margaret's has been very welcoming with all members of staff giving a happy smile and saying hello when I visit. They have been very receptive to any concerns raised and have dealt with them in a timely and professional manner. It is a great comfort knowing my dear friend

My aunt and uncle stayed here for almost a year and then due to their increasing health problems we were asked to find alternative care when both of them were barely out of hospital. We had selected the home to cover nursing needs but it seems that this was an issue. I found that the manager was showing
their room to possible new tenants before we had even secured alternative accommodation for them. I acknowledge my aunt was not an easy lady to look after however I was greatly disappointed in the managerial staff and some of the auxiliary staff. The nursing staff were extremely supportive and some of the auxiliary staff were also very kind and caring.

My wife and I were impressed by the friendly and caring staff. They have an extremely difficult job and showed compassion for the residents in the particular surroundings in which we were. The staff seem talented in many ways and actually showed a desire to locate outings to visit for the residents
even though logistics might be difficult.

My Granny has recently moved from hospital after having a stroke and being diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. Whilst in hospital, I watched her health deteriorate quite rapidly, she was stuck in a dark and dingy ward for months on end, there was no TV (unless you want to pay £12 a day) and the staff
were utterly overworked and quite frankly miserable as you'd expect! Since securing a place at St Margaret's her overall health has improved drastically. There is a genuine feeling of warmth and cheeriness as soon as you walk into the building. The staff are just wonderful, you can really see that they all have a genuine care for their residents. The activities are great fun, the rooms are bright, spacious and modern and the food is healthy and nutritious. I am absolutely delighted that my granny is a resident at St Margaret's, it is such a relief to know that she is finally now in safe hands.

My wife has been in care since January. In that time she seems to have settled very well. Although she has no communication whatsoever we can still tell if she is unsettled, loves watching what is going on. The staff are very friendly and always speak to her and us. Always let us know if there are any
problems. Apart from the issue of missing clothes now and again which staff always trace we have no problems.

My mum passed away recently but spent the last 9 months of her life at St Margaret's. Any nagging doubts about mum moving to her "last and new home" were quickly dispelled as she settled into her new abode within a matter of weeks. The care, compassion and interest shown by the staff at "St Margaret's"
played a big part in mum's daily life, supported by a varied activities schedule, which got mum's "grey cell matter" ticking over. What can I say to the team at St Margaret's apart from a "big thank you" and remember you do make a difference to the residents lives. So take a bow "team St Margaret's" take a bow.

At the age of ninety seven.
My mother has been at St Margaret's since May 2017. She has severe sight loss and dementia. She has been treated with respect and dignity through this difficult time of adjusting and settling in.
The staff are very caring and helpful and listen to all concerns, questions
and suggestions. St Margaret's has a happy lively atmosphere.

My mother who is 80 was admitted to St Margaret's with late stage dementia and a number of other health issues requiring care. I live in New Zealand and returned to Scotland to see for myself how the care she was receiving from Social Care was going - after a brief few days, it was obvious my mother's
needs were not being met, so we started looking at a private care home. St. Margaret's had been recommended and we managed to get in contact when a bed was available.
After a couple of weeks, my mother's complexion and health improved. The nurses, carers, facilities, food and activities are all excellent and the change in my mother was quite apparent after spending so much time alone at home. I am very happy that my mother is being very well cared for and appreciate the work all the care staff do, as I know it can be a very difficult vocation at times.

What is your professional background?


I began nursing in 2010, where I worked in various areas of the NHS before moving over into the care home sector. Studying an MSc in the Health and Well-being of Older People gave me the skills and confidence to dedicate my career to this client group- an area I dearly love. I have previously held posts in Clinical Lead, Deputy Home Managers and Head of Care Lead Nurse positions while continuing to work for a local agency in supporting the NHS, Marie Curie and St Columba's Hospices. I have experience in General Surgery, Renal and GI, Gynaecology, Medical Assessment Unit, Cardiac High Dependency, Medicine of the Elderly and Palliative Care.



As well as being a home manager, you are also a registered nurse. Why did you first get into nursing?


Nursing found me. Following personal challenges in my own life, I found that my empathy and compassion for people developed and the need to help others became my focus. It's a phenomenal responsibility being a Nurse, and I feel very privileged to have been given this opportunity.


What one thing do you enjoy most about your job?


I enjoy the challenge of being a new Home Manager and the fast-paced, ever-changing environment that is care. The position I am in allows me to see care delivery from all angles while building a service that is true to the needs of the individual.


What was a defining moment for you?


Providing palliative care to a 34-year-old lady with stomach cancer. At the time I cared for her, she had a son the same age as mine and had been diagnosed 2 weeks before her death. I learnt that day the importance of living in the moment and being thankful for my family and son. You can't dictate the future, but you can enjoy the present.?


What interests you outside of work?


I am a huge sports fan with special interests in rugby and football. Manchester United is where my heart will always be. I also enjoy walking with my dogs and spending time with my 5-year-old son. I also enjoy watching movies, especially Sci-fi and thrillers, as well as listening regularly to music. I have a personal interest in German history and sport.
