Each time I have visited my friend in Carrickfergus Manor I have been struck by the warmth and friendliness of the care staff. They make this a real home for the residents, relating to them with patience and genuine friendship. I know my friend is in the best of hands.

My Mother and Father are both residents. They are being well looked after and all their needs catered for. When I visit the staff are friendly and unobtrusive so my time spent with my parents is more relaxing.

Both my elderly parents are resident in this care home and I find that, to most of the staff, looking after them is more than just a job. My mother passed away on 27/07/23 and the staff could not have done any more for my mum and dad. I cannot thank them enough.

Yesterday I found my mother lying in bed with her 2 eyes glued together with an eye infection. When I called the nurse she said if she thought she had an infection she would ring the doctor. I said she clearly has an eye infection so yes you need to ring the doctor. I asked her to clean my mother's
eyes which she then did and then said that was the third time she had cleaned them.
My mother was lying in her bed with her trousers around her ankles unable to see, unable to even get herself a drink. Also, a used morphine patch had been left sitting on a chest of drawers and going by the date it must have been left there for 4 days.
I could go on with lots more. Almost every time I visit my mother there is an issue.
I am appalled with the lack of care my mother receives at Carrickfergus Manor.

We were delighted when Mum got a place in Carrickfergus Manor Care Home. It is even better than we had hoped and it helped us to realise that we have done the best we could for her. The facilities, care, people, food, entertainment etc. have exceeded our expectations. So, thank you to everyone who goes
beyond the call of duty in caring for the residents.

My father is treated and cared for really well and cared for by both nursing and care staff in a dignified manner. My mother visits every day when possible and she is also treated very well by all staff who make her visits comfortable and pleasant. My father's room is bright and clean with a large
well-equipped bathroom. As a family, we are very happy with Carrickfergus Manor.

My nana has been living here for 18 months and she seems very content. I miss visiting my nana due to Covid but we keep in touch online through Zoom, etc. The staff are very pleasant and seem attentive and helpful. My grandad was also a resident and I would recommend this home to anyone looking for
a home for their loved one.

I have always found Carrickfergus Manor to be a well-run care home for my mother with friendly staff. The environment is clean and the communication is pretty good as well regarding updates to my mother's condition. I would recommend this home - it's set in a nice place as well.

My mother is a resident in Carrickfergus Manor. A nursing/residential home is not a place where anybody wants a parent to end up but sometimes we have no control over life and needs must. Thankfully in Carrickfergus Manor I can say my mum seems happy, she is well looked after and is always clean and
well turned out. The rooms would put alot of hotels to shame and the home in general really is very nice. I find all the staff very attentive and helpful and my mother likes them all which is the main thing. All the staff have worked in very difficult conditions over the Covid period but have made the residents their priority and helped them during this time and assisted their families keeping in touch. I know my family and I are very grateful!!

My mum has been in Carrickfergus Manor since June 2019. Mum is happy and contented in her surroundings.
The staff are very pleasant and friendly and get on well with Mum which is the main thing. They try their best to help through these uncertain times.
We hope and pray we will get back to the good
times we had at Carrickfergus Manor when we could just come and go to see our love ones.

Overall our experience has been good but we have a few comments. There are too few activities, issues with hygiene and clothes washing, some of the staff are a bit too relaxed - we sometimes feel they couldn't care less. There never seem to be enough staff around, especially on public holidays.

My mother is a resident of Carrickfergus Manor and so was our late father who sadly passed away in Sept 2019. As a family, we are very happy with the high standard our mother continues to receive from, warm, welcoming, approachable management and staff. It's heartwarming to know she is so content in
her surroundings. So I can't praise the staff enough who treat our mother with so much kindness, care and dignity.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.666)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.666) out of 10 for Carrickfergus Manor is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.766 for Carrickfergus Manor is calculated as follows: ( (151 Excellents x 5) + (37 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 192 Ratings = 4.766
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Carrickfergus Manor is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 47 registered maximum number of service users is 9.4, which has been reached with 16 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
