Dean Wood warmly welcome those in need of residential and nursing care, including people living with dementia or Parkinson’s.

Dean Wood is a modern, purpose-built care facility with fabulous panoramic sea views, state of the art accommodation and facilities. There's a dedicated dementia unit, as well as sensory gardens, reminiscence activity areas and memory boxes, that have all been carefully designed to help those with cognitive issues.

Residents have access to a private terrace and rooftop café where they can enjoy views out to the sea.

As an enhanced service to residents, twice-weekly GP visits are conducted at Dean Wood Care Home, enabling residents to receive regular, personalised medical reviews as part of the approach to person-centred care.

Dean Wood employs professional chefs, who are committed to good health and nutrition. They provide a varied menu of tasty food which residents can choose to enjoy in privacy or socialising with others.

Entertainment and promoting a stimulating lifestyle were in mind when this home was designed.

My Mum went into Dean Wood Care Home as an alternative to a Hospice for some respite and Pain Management due to her terminal cancer. Straight away she was made to feel at home and the staff were kind and willing to help as much as they could. After a few days, it became obvious that her time was indeed
short and that only Palliative care was appropriate. She was made as comfortable as possible and treated with the utmost dignity and kindness. The staff gave us plenty of privacy and made sure that we knew we could visit at any time and stay with Mum in her room as much as we wanted. On the day that she passed away, we were given every assistance possible and are now so grateful that a time of such sadness for us as a family was made a lot easier by everyone at Dean Wood.
Many heartfelt thanks to all involved in her care.

My mother has been at Dean Wood for 18 months. The room is not clean and I regularly clean her over-the-bed tray which is dirty. Her nails are extremely long and black underneath, I’m having to cut and clean them. Without her main carer, who is excellent, I would remove my mother. She is left in bed
most of the time, and can’t put television on because she does not have the controller with little going on and no stimulation. Very disappointed. I expected to have lunch and maybe tea with my mother but this hasn’t happened.

Mum has been at Dean Wood for just over two years now. It's obviously been an extremely challenging time in many ways for all care homes due to Covid for management, staff, families and residents alike. However, despite that, Mum has continued to receive excellent care, which is no mean feat with somebody
who can often provide her own challenges to receiving care. I will be forever grateful to so many members of staff who are involved in Mum's care and I often feel overwhelmed by the kindness shown to her and its lovely to see how well she gets on with them. I don't think they all realise how much it means and I can't thank them enough. Mum just had her 80th birthday and everybody, especially the activities team, went to so much effort to make it a special day. I won't forget seeing her smiling and singing and lapping up all the attention. The cake made in the kitchens, especially for her, was a work of art. The food seems mostly homemade and her lovely room has a fabulous view!

My mum came to Dean Wood after having a series of bad experiences so was very apprehensive about going into a home. Being an ex care manager I have high expectations of the level of care for my mum. Well, I have to say Dean Wood were caring, empathetic and also listened to my mum and ourselves. They
were very person-centred, I cannot fault them - especially the deputy and nurse.

Everyone at Dean Wood is very polite, caring and helpful. I know that Mum is being well cared for and all her needs are taken care of. Dean Wood organise a variety of activities and although Mum does not attend all of them, those she does she enjoys.

The home is easy to get to and in a nice position looking over the Downs. I had a nice visit with my friend, the care staff were friendly. I think they were very busy though. I was a bit concerned as my friend seemed a little unkempt and her fingernails were very long but I was assured that they
would put it on the list to cut them.

My dad was fast-tracked to Dean Wood from hospital. Dad was given all the care he needed in a very professional and caring way the nurses were always polite and kept me up to date with how dad was getting on they are all a credit to the home. All the nurses were amazing but I would like to give an extra
shout-out to one of the nurses. My dad has now been discharged and is back at home still a long way to go. If anyone has any worries about a family member being discharged to Dean Wood they will get the best care.

My father was fast-tracked to Dean Wood Care Home from the hospital. It was during lockdown so, so far I have not been inside the home but there has been every effort to help me keep in contact with him, be it balcony visits, then garden visits and now a room visit for 30 minutes. The staff have been
fantastic. There have been two members of staff in particular that have been so kind and helpful. I can't thank them enough. Dad is settled and joining in social activities and is very pleased indeed.

Great place to be in care. Lovely, well-decorated rooms and a very nice 'wet' room en suite. Shower, toilet, washbasin. Plenty of well situated 'grab' rails for using services and good support care around toilet. Soap dispenser very useful.
Nice 'all singing all dancing' bed and very comfortable. Good
and very attentive caring staff, great atmosphere on the' floor'. The food is first class with menu. Choice of two main meals with desserts. There are sandwiches if you want them instead. Soup with supper, laundry service. What more could a 'body' want?

My father, who is suffering from advanced vascular dementia, entered the care home in July 2020. Unfortunately, due to the COVID visit restrictions, we have been kept informed on residents’ daily life via social media, phone calls and allocated 30 min visits (social media posts are heartwarming and
really help under the difficult COVID restrictive circumstances). All staff are extremely informative (when visiting or on the phone) on my father's daily activities, general health and care; fully understanding of the upsetting frustrations we as a family are experiencing in regards limited contact. I get a real sense of the respect and dignity my father receives from all members of the staff, which resonates throughout and shines through within my dad’s demeanour, contentment and healthy appearance. The care has been excellent and hopefully, in the coming months, the visiting will improve but understand the COVID boundaries and the challenges this brings.

My father spent about six weeks in Dean Wood on the medical unit. He was 97 and already in poor health, with dementia.
He was incontinent and confused, he thought he was in a hotel which I saw as a compliment.
The staff were very sensitive, cheerful and personally sensitive to my father's needs, to
an extent I thought amazing when they had so many sick people to care for at the same time.

Amazing, caring, patient staff in the dementia unit. The respect, care, attention, comfort they all show to the residents is excellent. My mother's family visit her 2-3 times a day and we all see the staff being so kind to the other residents, many of which don't have family or visitors. We feel very
confident in leaving our mother in their care.

The staff here are most helpful. It is a shame that so many agency staff are necessary. The agency staff are usually helpful though. It is good that we have activities to fill the time which could otherwise seem long.

My next of kin has a severe disability and has been in Dean Wood for 13 months. When he arrived he was very unwell and now he is able enough to move out and into an independent living situation. Carers have been very tolerant and kind. Their knowledge and understanding has made my next of kin stay here

Dean Wood offers my mum an excellent, caring and supportive environment.
The care is really good and my mum's needs are met.
The staff are always pleasant and look after us when we visit.
The care home is clean and maintained to a high standard.
The rooms are always clean and tidy.
One important
aspect is the number of activities for my mum to do!
