Foxburrow Grange Care Home

Mum moved into Foxburrow Grange approximately 3 years ago having previously had a short stay in another care home and Foxburrow was and still is a breath of fresh air. Mum is treated in such a kind manner and all her needs are met. The staff go out of their way to make sure they get to know Mum, both from a care needs point of view but most importantly her personality and likes and dislikes. Mum's dementia has worsened while she has been at Foxburrow but at every stage she is assessed and changes based on her care needs are made and we as family are kept informed and involved with these changes. The activities offered at Foxburrow for the residents are varied, fun, stimulating and well planned and family are always welcome to join in. There is plenty of opportunity to discuss any concerns or have an update with the staff on the wing and also the care home manager. Importantly there is good continuity with the staff so they know Mum well and can react appropriately as needed.

If only all Care homes were as good as Foxburrow Grange.

The lovely outside space is an added bonus

My father and step mother are both residing at Foxburrow Grange, and receive great care. The home is well run and the esident staff always appear happy and willing to help. My dad is always saying how happy he is, and he is always saying how quickly his laundry is returned. This may seem like a small thing, but it makes him happy. The activities duo are great,and organise some fantastic events for the residents. Some of the domestic staff are very good as well.

My mum joined the Community in Badger Wing in February this year as her Dementia progressed requiring 24/7 care that her husband had been providing. I visited weekend 20th June for the 1st time since she moved in. I found the care given to my a mum and all the other residents absolutely fantastic. The team are aware of individuals needs at all times and all residents at all times. They are compassionate and caring to everyone and support visitors seeing their loved ones. They do this every day and night with total commitment. My deepest gratitude goes to them for the care, love and support for my mum and all the other families special ones.

My Husband has vascular Dementia, went into Foxburrow Grange when it was impossible to manage at home, I am very pleased with the care at Foxburrow Grange, All staff are so kind and helpful, having good outdoor space has really helped him, A lovely care home in a very pleasant setting

My sister has been in Foxburrow Grange for two years now. It is a modern, light and airy building designed for purpose with easy access to Colchester town and Abbey Fields so ideal to go for a walk or go into town. I visit regularly and, overall, I find the quality of care to be outstanding. Some carers are, of course, better than others but in general they are kind, engaging, caring, and with a ready sense of humour. They all have very difficult and highly responsible jobs and generally fulfill their tasks to the highest standards as far as I am aware. Whenever I have raised something I have always received an engaged, intelligent, and helpful response. I always feel welcomed there whenever I pop in and I know my sister is as happy as one can be under the circumstances. I am writing following the passing of my mother in November to share our experience at Foxborough Grange under its new management.

At a very difficult time, we were disappointed by the lack of compassion shown. We received no condolences, only a bill, which felt impersonal.

Our experience with management was challenging, with poor communication and concerns not being addressed. My 15-year-old son, who has additional needs, was unfairly criticised despite this being explained, and no evidence was provided.

Following this, it felt as though our family was treated differently, including being told we could no longer assist with feeding or giving drinks.

I also had to intervene with a SaLT referral due to incomplete information.

While the care staff were kind and dedicated, overall our experience with management was disappointing. I would not recommend this home. Don't be fooled by the crazy high end reception, all is not what it seems..

The person to whom this review relates has Alzheimer's disease and was living at home with live-in carers, but because she became more and more challenging in her behavior the care company gave the family 24 hours notice to find a placement in a care home. After research we were fortunate enough to find Foxburrow Grange and she went initially for 6 weeks respite which was then upgraded to residential because of the incredible change in her behavior surrounded by caring and friendly staff at all levels. She has made friends amongst to other service users and become much more relaxed in her disposition, joining in with many of the activities the establishment provides.

It is hoped that she will be able to remain for as long as possible with the home both for her sake and for the sake of the relatives who do no longer have to worry about her standard of care or safeguarding issues.

I cannot say enough good things about this home. My husband who has Parkinson's disease and dementia was cared for with great respect and consideration until he was hospitalised. The staff all knew what he liked to eat and drink. They engaged him as much as possible in activities and events. When he was sad somebody looked after him and gave him comfort. It became his second home and our family all felt happy to leave him in their care when we left him after our visits.

Excellent experience. Staff have gone out of their way to help. All very polite and friendly.

The staff in Otter have treated Mum with the utmost respect during her 7 weeks convalescing, following a hip repair and serious infection in hospital. Mum arrived very weak, nervous and unable to walk. The staff were very patient with her and treated her with dignity. Mum instantly felt at home and welcome. Nothing has been too much trouble for them. They have really helped to give her some confidence and had utmost patience in helping her to walk again.

We are delighted with her progress and will miss the happy, friendly faces in Otter. Everybody we came into contact with was polite, courteous, patient and very kind, even though Mum was just a temporary resident, albeit one with vascular dementia. We were very impressed with the cleanliness of the place and the quality of the meals too. We cannot praise everybody enough for the quality of care given - Thank you, Foxburrow, for keeping Mum safe and looking after her for us, we couldn't have asked for more. Mum was quite sad to leave.

The staff on Hedgehog treat mum with respect and dignity. Mum is very elderly, far older than most of us will ever aspire to. She has vascular dementia alongside other health conditions including ovarian cancer. Mum can be very difficult at times, demanding her own way and very stubborn - but staff understand and manage this well to keep her safe. She is very frail and hardly eats but the staff try very hard to encourage and cook and offer alternatives even though she then declines those too.

Staff keep me informed through the App and call if there is something more serious. They always welcome me when I arrive- both in the unit and reception. Staff are clearly concerned for her ongoing welfare and personal wishes whatever they may be at the time. They apply principles of best wishes as necessary. As a result mum does feel loved and I am happy that she is in a secure and caring environment. Our family views are endorsed by mum's latest LA Deprivation of Liberty and BIA reports.

My dad is currently receiving end-of-life care following his admission with Alzheimer's roughly five months ago. The care and nursing he has received have been second to none, not to mention the care we have all received as a family whilst staying with dad in his final days and hours. The management and staff have gotten everything right with their approach and attention to detail. Thank you all so, so much.

I viewed Foxburrow Grange for urgent respite care at 11am one Friday morning and my parent was admitted around 6pm in the evening. The service and care from the staff towards myself and parent has been phenomenal.

I have peace of mind knowing my husband is in such good hands at Foxburrow Grange. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a caring and supportive environment for their loved ones.

We are very pleased with our Mum's care at Foxburrow Grange. The Home is very light and airy as purpose-built. The management are happy to listen to any concerns we may have. We are particularly pleased by the morning activity programme during week days.

My mother has been with Foxburrow for over 12 months - the 3rd she has been in. Today I messaged them. I see so many articles on social media from families that are struggling with care homes that don't care, evict loved ones for occasional challenging behaviour, send people to hospitals and then aren't allowed back and are constantly arguing with Managers and Carers.

I count myself very lucky that I have had so much support from Foxburrow - laundry when she was hiding and stealing clothes, maintenance when she was flushing everything down the toilet, all when she was constantly escaping, all with her challenging behaviour. The nurses with medication and the night shift with mum's antics. The support I have had is outstanding and every time I see another story from it reminds me how lucky I am. It's hard to convey to everyone how much they are all appreciated so please pass on my thanks. Don't go on CQC reports alone - Please go and view the home and meet the teams.

When my husband is down he's not to good, it brings me down too and the carers take time to comfort me.
