I am very impressed with the care and attention my Mother is receiving in Hedgehog wing at Fox burrow Grange. The staff are very friendly and attentive to both residents and visitors. Mum is kept comfortable and treated with dignity at all times.
The building is very light and airy, but cosy and inviting.
It really does feel like a home from home.
I am kept informed of Mum's long term plan and feel Management listen to any worries I may have, whatever they may be.
I would like to take this opportunity to say a very big thank to the staff for all of their hard work.

My sister has been in Foxburrow Grange for two years now. It is a modern, light and airy building designed for purpose with easy access to Colchester town and Abbey Fields so ideal to go for a walk or go into town. I visit regularly and, overall, I find the quality of care to be outstanding. Some
carers are, of course, better than others but in general they are kind, engaging, caring, and with a ready sense of humour. They all have very difficult and highly responsible jobs and generally fulfill their tasks to the highest standards as far as I am aware. Whenever I have raised something I have always received an engaged, intelligent, and helpful response. I always feel welcomed there whenever I pop in and I know my sister is as happy as one can be under the circumstances. Needs vary but there is a real effort to make it a cheery homey place rather than a medical institution. I am always impressed at the range and quality of the activities organised for residents. I am writing following the passing of my mother in November to share our experience at Foxborough Grange under its new management.

At a very difficult time, we were disappointed by the lack of compassion shown. We received no condolences, only a bill, which felt impersonal.

Our experience with

management was challenging, with poor communication and concerns not being addressed. My 15-year-old son, who has additional needs, was unfairly criticised despite this being explained, and no evidence was provided.

Following this, it felt as though our family was treated differently, including being told we could no longer assist with feeding or giving drinks.

I also had to intervene with a SaLT referral due to incomplete information.

While the care staff were kind and dedicated, overall our experience with management was disappointing. I would not recommend this home. Don't be fooled by the crazy high end reception, all is not what it seems..

The person to whom this review relates has Alzheimer's disease and was living at home with live-in carers, but because she became more and more challenging in her behavior the care company gave the family 24 hours notice to find a placement in a care home. After research we were fortunate enough to
find Foxburrow Grange and she went initially for 6 weeks respite which was then upgraded to residential because of the incredible change in her behavior surrounded by caring and friendly staff at all levels. She has made friends amongst to other service users and become much more relaxed in her disposition, joining in with many of the activities the establishment provides.

It is hoped that she will be able to remain for as long as possible with the home both for her sake and for the sake of the relatives who do no longer have to worry about her standard of care or safeguarding issues.

Thank you to everyone at Foxburrow Grange.

Mum entered St George's for end-of-life care. We found the staff to be informative on entry and compassionate and professional throughout mum's short stay. All the staff made my sister and I feel safe, as well as offering us comfort and care as needed at the difficult time, especially when mum passed
away. The home was comfortable, clean and well managed, and the staff went the extra mile to make sure mum was treated with dignity.

My mother was placed at St George's Nursing Home for end of life support. From the moment we arrived we could not fault the way Mum was treated. She didn't want to be there but within days they had won her over. The care they gave her was unbelievable. Every member of the staff from the manager, Sally
to the catering tea were so kind, caring and supportive. The support I received as well was wonderful. I could not of wanted more for my Mum at the end of her life - thank you there are no words to express my gratitude.

I cannot say enough good things about this home. My husband who has Parkinson's disease and dementia was cared for with great respect and consideration until he was hospitalised. The staff all knew what he liked to eat and drink. They engaged him as much as possible in activities and events. When he
was sad somebody looked after him and gave him comfort. It became his second home and our family all felt happy to leave him in their care when we left him after our visits.

The staff in Otter have treated Mum with the utmost respect during her 7 weeks convalescing, following a hip repair and serious infection in hospital. Mum arrived very weak, nervous and unable to walk. The staff were very patient with her and treated her with dignity. Mum instantly felt at home and
welcome. Nothing has been too much trouble for them. They have really helped to give her some confidence and had utmost patience in helping her to walk again.

We are delighted with her progress and will miss the happy, friendly faces in Otter. Everybody we came into contact with was polite, courteous, patient and very kind, even though Mum was just a temporary resident, albeit one with vascular dementia. We were very impressed with the cleanliness of the place and the quality of the meals too. We cannot praise everybody enough for the quality of care given - Thank you, Foxburrow, for keeping Mum safe and looking after her for us, we couldn't have asked for more. Mum was quite sad to leave.

The whole team at St George's were fantastic from the moment Mum entered the home . The care and attention she was shown was fantastic . The respect she was shown through to her end of life was amazing . They also helped us a family with their compassion and understanding . The media bombards us with
horror stories of nursing and care homes , there was never one moment when we came away after visiting Mum that gave us cause for concern , in fact the exact opposite , we knew she was safe and comfortable. Thank you and well done to all

The staff on Hedgehog treat mum with respect and dignity. Mum is very elderly, far older than most of us will ever aspire to. She has vascular dementia alongside other health conditions including ovarian cancer. Mum can be very difficult at times, demanding her own way and very stubborn - but staff
understand and manage this well to keep her safe. She is very frail and hardly eats but the staff try very hard to encourage and cook and offer alternatives even though she then declines those too.

Staff keep me informed through the App and call if there is something more serious. They always welcome me when I arrive- both in the unit and reception. Staff are clearly concerned for her ongoing welfare and personal wishes whatever they may be at the time. They apply principles of best wishes as necessary. As a result mum does feel loved and I am happy that she is in a secure and caring environment. Our family views are endorsed by mum's latest LA Deprivation of Liberty and BIA reports.

My mother came a few years ago under the previous owners- first impressions were that the home was shabby but it had a lovely feel, glad I went with my instincts.
We now have new owners, things have gone upwards since. The improvements and refurbishment are fantastic - it has the same lovely feel
but is now also smart and impressive.
My mother has all her faculties, and the staff have become her every day family - she isn't one to mix, but she enjoys conversing with the staff, and the younger ones open her eyes to how different the world is today than when she was their age! It's a good exchange as she can tell them about life when she was younger.
My father was in another home and he died recently, it was hard for Mum but the staff have been brilliant. It helped me knowing I wasn't leaving her in a house trying cope alone, she has lots of care and support around her 24/7.
The manager is an excellent manager, I can talk to her about anything and she deals with things promptly.

My family and I can't thank all the staff enough for their kindness and care of our mum, nan and great grandmother, who sadly passed away on 18th January 2025.
From the day mum became a resident to her final hours she was given the best care possible and for that, all her family will be forever grateful.
She
could be a handful at time's but nothing was too much and they showed her such kindness.
And a special thank you to the manager for all your help and guidance, when we were stuck.
If your thinking about placing a family member here, they will be in good hands, so don't worry.

The team at St Georges was excellent in looking after my Dad, who was receiving end-of-life care. Everyone was caring, compassionate, and understanding, and the facilities at the home are modern, well-looked-after, and clean.
The food and service from what I saw on my visits looked good, and the staff
worked really hard to attend to resident's needs, despite often challenging situations.
They could not have been kinder and more caring, dealing with a very difficult situation sensitively and providing me with honest communication throughout.
