Review of Foxburrow Grange Care Home from Debbie R (Sister of Resident) published on 3 August 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My sister in law moved to Foxburrow Grange in October 2025. It was an incredibly difficult time for her coming from a care home that did not support Dementia sufferers.
I had spent many months searching for a Care home that would suit her. When I walked into Foxburrow and spent time speaking with staff and residents I just knew I had found it! One of the reasons, and there are many, that makes Foxburrow stand out is that both Dementia Suites are on the ground floor with direct access out to the garden.
The suite itself is fantastic. A large open plan lounge/kitchen area provides a home from home feel. TV is always on, music playing in other areas, comfy armchairs & sofas.
Staff interacting with residents like old friends, They know them so well and are full of encouragement. The staff have such patience and treat everyone as an individual, with their own story.
Communication is great! Our family couldn't ask for more. Thank you!

If only all Care homes were as good as Foxburrow Grange.

Review of St George's Nursing Home Witham from Thomas P (Son of Resident) published on 28 July 2026 Submitted via Website

Dad came to St George's for end-of-life care from hospital. We found the staff to be informative on entry and were shown around the homes facilities etc. They were compassionate and professional throughout dad's two weeks there and as a family, we could not have asked for more. All the staff from the back of house to front line, made my family feel safe, as well as offering us comfort and care as needed at the difficult time, especially when dad passed. The home was comfortable, clean and well managed, and the staff went the extra mile to make sure dad was treated with dignity. I cannot fault them in any way and with such a difficult job, they were all amazing.

Thank you for your very kind words that I will share with all the staff. It was a very short stay for dad but I felt we were so very fortunate to have met you all. Best wishes to the family

My Mum has been in Foxburrow Grange for five years and despite management changes the wonderful care staff remain a constant. I can honestly say that they are in the main the kindest most caring team you could wish to meet.
The regular care staff are so supportive they have become like family to me. It is so important that the care staff get to know the residents back story and their likes and dislikes and all their idiosyncrasies.
The use of Agency staff although absolutely necessary at times could be seen as room for improvement although often most are wonderfully kind some are reactive and not proactive to the residents well being.
The wing could certainly do with a freshen up I understand that this is work in progress and does not distract from the love and care given.
Activities team work hard to make sure residents have fun.
Laundry and home is kept spotlessly clean.
Management team are available to deal with issues and concerns.

The lovely outside space is an added bonus

My father and step mother are both residing at Foxburrow Grange, and receive great care. The home is well run and the esident staff always appear happy and willing to help. My dad is always saying how happy he is, and he is always saying how quickly his laundry is returned. This may seem like a small thing, but it makes him happy. The activities duo are great, and organise some fantastic events for the residents. Some of the domestic staff are very good as well.

My mum joined the Community in Badger Wing in February this year as her Dementia progressed requiring 24/7 care that her husband had been providing. I visited weekend 20th June for the 1st time since she moved in. I found the care given to my a mum and all the other residents absolutely fantastic. The team are aware of individuals needs at all times and all residents at all times. They are compassionate and caring to everyone and support visitors seeing their loved ones. They do this every day and night with total commitment. My deepest gratitude goes to them for the care, love and support for my mum and all the other families special ones.

I am very impressed with the care and attention my Mother is receiving in Hedgehog wing at Fox burrow Grange. The staff are very friendly and attentive to both residents and visitors. Mum is kept comfortable and treated with dignity at all times.
The building is very light and airy, but cosy and inviting. It really does feel like a home from home.
I am kept informed of Mum's long term plan and feel Management listen to any worries I may have, whatever they may be.

I would like to take this opportunity to say a very big thank to the staff for all of their hard work.

My sister has been in Foxburrow Grange for two years now. It is a modern, light and airy building designed for purpose with easy access to Colchester town and Abbey Fields so ideal to go for a walk or go into town. I visit regularly and, overall, I find the quality of care to be outstanding. Some carers are, of course, better than others but in general they are kind, engaging, caring, and with a ready sense of humour. They all have very difficult and highly responsible jobs and generally fulfill their tasks to the highest standards as far as I am aware. Whenever I have raised something I have always received an engaged, intelligent, and helpful response. I always feel welcomed there whenever I pop in and I know my sister is as happy as one can be under the circumstances. Needs vary but there is a real effort to make it a cheery homey place rather than a medical institution. I am always impressed at the range and quality of the activities organised for residents. I am writing following the passing of my mother in November to share our experience at Foxborough Grange under its new management.

At a very difficult time, we were disappointed by the lack of compassion shown. We received no condolences, only a bill, which felt impersonal.

Our experience with management was challenging, with poor communication and concerns not being addressed. My 15-year-old son, who has additional needs, was unfairly criticised despite this being explained, and no evidence was provided.

Following this, it felt as though our family was treated differently, including being told we could no longer assist with feeding or giving drinks.

I also had to intervene with a SaLT referral due to incomplete information.

While the care staff were kind and dedicated, overall our experience with management was disappointing. I would not recommend this home. Don't be fooled by the crazy high end reception, all is not what it seems..

The person to whom this review relates has Alzheimer's disease and was living at home with live-in carers, but because she became more and more challenging in her behavior the care company gave the family 24 hours notice to find a placement in a care home. After research we were fortunate enough to find Foxburrow Grange and she went initially for 6 weeks respite which was then upgraded to residential because of the incredible change in her behavior surrounded by caring and friendly staff at all levels. She has made friends amongst to other service users and become much more relaxed in her disposition, joining in with many of the activities the establishment provides.

It is hoped that she will be able to remain for as long as possible with the home both for her sake and for the sake of the relatives who do no longer have to worry about her standard of care or safeguarding issues.

Thank you to everyone at Foxburrow Grange.

My mother was placed at St George's Nursing Home for end of life support. From the moment we arrived we could not fault the way Mum was treated. She didn't want to be there but within days they had won her over. The care they gave her was unbelievable. Every member of the staff from the manager, Sally to the catering tea were so kind, caring and supportive. The support I received as well was wonderful. I could not of wanted more for my Mum at the end of her life - thank you there are no words to express my gratitude.

I cannot say enough good things about this home. My husband who has Parkinson's disease and dementia was cared for with great respect and consideration until he was hospitalised. The staff all knew what he liked to eat and drink. They engaged him as much as possible in activities and events. When he was sad somebody looked after him and gave him comfort. It became his second home and our family all felt happy to leave him in their care when we left him after our visits.

The staff in Otter have treated Mum with the utmost respect during her 7 weeks convalescing, following a hip repair and serious infection in hospital. Mum arrived very weak, nervous and unable to walk. The staff were very patient with her and treated her with dignity. Mum instantly felt at home and welcome. Nothing has been too much trouble for them. They have really helped to give her some confidence and had utmost patience in helping her to walk again.

We are delighted with her progress and will miss the happy, friendly faces in Otter. Everybody we came into contact with was polite, courteous, patient and very kind, even though Mum was just a temporary resident, albeit one with vascular dementia. We were very impressed with the cleanliness of the place and the quality of the meals too. We cannot praise everybody enough for the quality of care given - Thank you, Foxburrow, for keeping Mum safe and looking after her for us, we couldn't have asked for more. Mum was quite sad to leave.

The whole team at St George's were fantastic from the moment Mum entered the home . The care and attention she was shown was fantastic . The respect she was shown through to her end of life was amazing . They also helped us a family with their compassion and understanding . The media bombards us with horror stories of nursing and care homes , there was never one moment when we came away after visiting Mum that gave us cause for concern , in fact the exact opposite , we knew she was safe and comfortable. Thank you and well done to all

The staff on Hedgehog treat mum with respect and dignity. Mum is very elderly, far older than most of us will ever aspire to. She has vascular dementia alongside other health conditions including ovarian cancer. Mum can be very difficult at times, demanding her own way and very stubborn - but staff understand and manage this well to keep her safe. She is very frail and hardly eats but the staff try very hard to encourage and cook and offer alternatives even though she then declines those too.

Staff keep me informed through the App and call if there is something more serious. They always welcome me when I arrive- both in the unit and reception. Staff are clearly concerned for her ongoing welfare and personal wishes whatever they may be at the time. They apply principles of best wishes as necessary. As a result mum does feel loved and I am happy that she is in a secure and caring environment. Our family views are endorsed by mum's latest LA Deprivation of Liberty and BIA reports.
