I have been at Moorland Gardens Care Home every day since my mum was admitted, and this is the first time my mum has ever been in a care home. I am truly impressed with this care home. It is well run and spotlessly clean, I cannot fault this home, the manager, the reception staff, the nurses and carers
are all exceptional and well mannered and always approachable. I have no complaints or negatives about Morland Gardens. I would highly recommend this home and would put Mum back in here if she ever had to come back.

I cannot fault this care home. They have taken the best care of my mum and have been on hand anytime we need them. They are so friendly and cannot fault any of the managers, nurses or carers. It is spotlessly clean and I have no complaints whatsoever. I would highly recommend this care home and would
have no hesitation in putting Mum back here if she had to have care in the future. Mum says everyone in here is lovely and she is well settled.

My dad was admitted into Moorland Gardens care home in February 2019 with dementia and a heart condition. He also had an infection and nobody knew what it was until he went to Moorland Gardens, who diagnosed his condition as delirium. The medication was taken and my dad was back to his old self, apart
from his dementia. The staff were always caring to my dad and he was happy staying there. The manager and staff are all a credit to the home. I would recommend the home to anybody who needs the care my dad did.

My mum had a three week stay in Moorland Care Home. The level of care she received was excellent, as was the nursing staff who looked after her, very friendly and welcoming to all our family. Thank you all for making her stay so comfortable.

Mum was in Moorland Gardens for ten weeks after a spell in hospital. This is a nursing home so the level of care is high. The care and nursing staff are friendly, efficient and always available to answer questions, even when busy. I felt the home's strengths were firstly the manager, who is highly visible
on the units keeping a close eye on everything. The activities team work hard to involve the residents and on sunny days in the summer there was often tea and cake in the garden. The team are now in Moorlands seven days a week. The rooms have en suite toilets and everything is clean, but they could do with an update. This was my first experience of a care home and on the whole, it was very positive.

My husband was a resident here for 16 months. In this time, he was extremely well cared for. The staff were all kind, caring and always found time for a chat. The cleanliness was outstanding and there were never any smells of urine or cooking.

I live 350 miles from Moorland Gardens Care Home and travelled to visit my Uncle for 3 days in June. I was very impressed by my welcome and also by the obvious care that he was being given.
The staff were very informative and gave me a great insight as to what care he was receiving.
I phoned every
weekend and was always remembered by the staff from my visit. On other occasions when he had to be taken to hospital I was phoned immediately and kept informed at all times which was very reassuring as he has no other family nearby.
All in all, I can't speak highly enough of the staff and the Care Home.

Our mum stayed in this home while she was terminally ill. From day one when mum moved into the home, all its staff were brilliant, kind and always professional. Our mum needed a level of care we just could not achieve at home so the home was chosen to help with this.
The level of care was unbelievable
for both mum and any of the family that came to visit. From reception through to the care staff, nothing was ever too much trouble and we all received the very best we could have hoped for. Thank you for all your help and support.

My grandad has been a resident at Moorlands since 4th February 2019.
I can honestly say we have all been 100% happy with the care he has received throughout his stay so far.
All of the staff we have come into contact with are friendly, we are welcomed well, all the staff make us feel at home, they
keep us up to date about his daily ongoings and my grandad always looks clean and tidy. Even on difficult days, we feel happy to leave him in the care given at Moorland.
Moving into a home was worrying for the family to begin with but we are very happy with Moorland and couldn’t imagine him being cared for anywhere else.
Thank you to everyone that has contributed to the care of my grandad - from all the family.

Resident arrived after time in hospital. Previous home not suitable to return. She has issues re behaviour and dementia and was not thriving in the previous care. Moorlands is doing so well with her and we are so relieved that she is in this home. Great manager and qualified staff. They made it possible
to hold a 90th party for her in the home. So grateful and would recommend.

Visitors are warmly welcome to Moorland Gardens Care Home. The hospitality at the front desk or reception hub is very fantastic. Visitors are readily made to feel at home by the admin staff and the home manager. I would not hesitate to recommend Moorland Gardens Care Home to anyone who seeks respite

I have no worries about the care my mother is receiving. The staff are wonderful, I get a welcome from reception every time I visit. If there is a certain item or items to be bought for mum, I always obey instructions and when mum has to be seen by staff, I will wait until they have finished.

My father was initially discharged from hospital into Moorland Gardens for a “temporary” 6 week period. It soon became obvious that the care he would receive there was much better than using care visitors at home.
The staff at Moorlands were absolutely fantastic and they looked after him very well,
despite his frailty and increasing dementia. The entire premises is kept spotless and his room was functional, clean and open to sunlight. Moorlands took care of any hospital visits that were needed and always kept us informed of any changes in my father's condition and welfare needs - such as haircuts and other hygiene requirements.
I would recommend Moorland Gardens on the strength of the caring staff alone and the environment is very good for a town centre care home.

My brother has now been at Moorland Gardens for two years. He is now bedridden and non-verbal. We arrived unannounced from America and found him clean, well dressed and with attentive staff. Unasked, a detailed record of his progress was made available. His room was clean and bright. Luton Social Services
had initially placed my brother at Moorland Gardens due to his deteriorating condition. We were given the option of moving him shortly after he was admitted. We were reasonably familiar with alternate sheltered options but when his needs dictated a nursing home we were, and continue to be, satisfied with his care at Moorland Gardens.

Mum's stay has been generally good and she has been looked after well by friendly staff.

All room carpets can do with a clean and definitely an extra carer or two is needed as the current ones are struggling to cope on their own due to lack of staff.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.400)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.400) out of 10 for Moorland Gardens Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 11 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.937 for Moorland Gardens Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (119 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 127 Ratings = 4.937
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.463 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Moorland Gardens Care Home is based on 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 = 3.775
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 80 registered maximum number of service users is 16. 11 Positive Reviews ÷ 16 = 0.688
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
