Welcome to Alexandra Court in Hull a purpose-built care home located in Hull, close to the city centre.

Each of the 72 ensuite bedrooms is furnished to the highest standard, offering residents the chance to enjoy pure comfort and tranquillity.

At Alexandra Court providing independence and choice is very important – one reason why the home encourages residents to personalise their rooms with their own belongings to help them feel at home and as comfortable as possible.

All residents are supported to live an active and fulfilled life. The person-centred care enables residents to keep on doing the things they’ve always loved – and often the things they perhaps thought they could no longer enjoy.

As part of the Hull-based community, residents can help themselves to drinks and snacks, help out in the garden and other hobbies and exercise their usual routines which enable residents to make their lives theirs.

The facilities at Alexandra Court allow residents to enjoy other everyday routines that promote independence, from utilising the beauty salon, enjoying the gardens or simply catching up with friends in the peaceful lounges at Alexandra Court.

Alexandra Court has a busy activities timetable, built around the key goals of mental stimulation, increased mobility and social engagement. Activities include arts and crafts sessions, gardening, exercise classes, cinema nights, quizzes, musical performances, and pamper sessions. There will be a great variety of activities to try, with new activities added frequently.

The in-house chefs will prepare exceptional food from fresh, seasonal produce that’s locally sourced where possible. Menus will include a mix of delicious and nutritious options including traditional classic meals, Residents’ favourites and exciting international cuisine.

Overall, the care provided is excellent, both at local management and carer level. Firstly, the facility is purpose-built providing individual ensuite rooms which are kept clean and tidy. There are also excellent communal lounges and dining facilities.
Normally, although obviously limited during the
Covid-19 pandemic, activities or external visits are held daily, some of which involve residents' families, eg the choir, flower arranging, etc.
I am kept informed if there are personal issues, eg illness, with my input, wishes and concerns taken into account as appropriate.
Where care concerns are identified, both personal and general, I have no problems in discussing these with the relevant management staff, where my views/concerns are discussed and agreed actions implemented.

My mum has been in this care home for 6 months and within that time she is happy and very well cared for. All the staff have gone above and beyond during covid to sort out skype video calls and pod visits which have been fantastic to keep in touch with my mum and also to have her grandchildren be able
to see and talk to her. The staff always contact me if anything happens. I give them 10/10 for everything. Thank you.

I have always thought the staff caring and considerate. They look after mam really well and she never has a wrong word against them. She is happy and content. What more can anyone ask.

My mum has been a resident at Alexandra Court Care Centre for nearly 5 years. She has complex medical needs and now is confined to bed. Her care and treatment have been very good. All her needs are taken care of by a team of nurses and carers. During the covid pandemic, I have been able to talk to my
mum over a skype call every other week and I am now able to have a visit once a fortnight.

There are several ratings that I cannot answer mainly because of the restrictions imposed because of the covid-19 pandemic. When dealing with the home they have been in that 6 month period, fine. However, the person who I am POA for, I haven't seen in that period. The first contact was on 08.03.21 when
I visited in a pod. I have yet to go inside the home.
Reply from Samantha Rae, Home Manager at Alexandra Court Care Centre

Thank you so much for taking the time to review our service. We are offering visits as restrictions allow and will be in regular contact to organise these. Please contact me at the home if I can help with this process in any way. We do appreciate how difficult these times are for our residents and families/friends. Kindest regards.

We are very pleased with the care and attention my other receives. Due to the difficult time we are having with the virus, we have not been able to visit as much as we would have in normal times but we have been able to facetime call my mother and recently been able to have a visit in a booth and see
my mother through a screen. This has been purely down to the excellent staff at the home. Many thanks.

Staff is great but very overworked. Bosses expect too much of them. Need to employ more staff. Head office very inefficient and disconnected from their care homes. Care home needs more exercise and physio programmes, more activities and staff need more time to interact properly. Gaps in care due to
lack of staff.
Reply from Samantha Rae, Home Manager at Alexandra Court Care Centre

Thank you for your comments, they are greatly appreciated and will be used within our systems to constantly improve our service. We have adequate staffing for the dependency of our current residents and our team works hard to meet all of their needs. Since March of this year, we have only been able to allow essential medical visits due to COVID 19 restrictions but our staffing levels remain safe and within the guidelines of dependency measures. If you would like to discuss the concerns you have with a member of our senior team or the manager, please contact the home directly and we are available to answer any questions you may have.

Both my parents are residents of Alexandra Court. Both suffer from dementia and other conditions. I am so happy with the care they receive. The home is very clean and attractive, and the staff are wonderful, experienced, caring and competent. The home has responded to their very specific needs, keeping
me involved and informed at all times. Mum and Dad look happy and well cared for and enjoy a range of activities and one to one sessions. Before covid, I was welcomed in for visits and was able to join in activities with my parents.

Mum has been a resident at Alexandra Court Care Centre for several years. The home is modern, clean and welcoming. All staff are friendly, helpful and informative. Mum has always been well cared for, well-fed, felt safe and happy. There is a wide range of activities which are fun, stimulating and enjoyable.
My family feels content in the knowledge, especially at the moment, that mum is so well looked after and we have nothing but praise and thanks to everyone involved at Alexandra Court.

There is a CQC inspection rating for this home of "Inadequate" in July 2019. Ignore this; nothing could be further from the truth! My brother-in-law was admitted from the hospital to Alexandra on 31/01/2020 with a terminal illness. The care given to him was first-class in-fact exemplary.
He required
personal care as he was too weak to get out of bed and pain management due to cancer on his head. Despite being in bed, he was always dressed on his top half. He was regularly turned in bed, and potential bed sores on heals and sacrum were avoided. The home allowed visitors at any time, which was a bonus as we live out of the area.
The staff were kind, communicative, caring, compassionate and at the end, when he passed away, they were extremely supportive and sensitive. The home always smelled nice, and relatively quiet considering the amount of people staying there. He could be difficult, but all the staff persevered with him. We cannot thank them enough and wholly recommend this home.

On reading some of the reviews I had concerns about my brother going into Alexandra Court Care Centre but as it was the only available home with a vacancy as the hospital needed him to have nursing care. I decided to use them. I cannot thank the staff enough, he was well looked after by all the staff
and they also took the time to speak to him and also to us. So pleased he went there.

My Mam went to Alexandra Court Care Centre initially for a couple of weeks respite, with a view to staying longer. Unfortunately, her health deteriorated very quickly, which led to her demise on Sunday evening.

We would just like to thank all the staff at the home, for there care, compassion and

sincerity, shown to my mother and the rest of our family on this sad occasion.

You are a wonderful team and I would not hesitate to recommend yourselves and the home, to anyone looking for care.

Many thanks

The care to my mother who suffered dementia was amazing. I could not get over how every single member of staff knew mum and always gave her a cuddle and asked how she was. They had a great understanding of how to care for her personal care and would soon change their approach if mum refused to get washed
etc. He clothing was always colour coordinated she never looked anything but her best. I must mention the two activity carers their projects/activities/outings etc were fabulous. They worked so well as a team and watching them with all the residents was a pleasure. Well done to them. I must finish with the dignity mum was given in the quality of life my mum had at the home. I know she loved it. Thank you.

My Mother was in Alexandra Court Care Centre for just over a year. The accommodation is exceptional. The management go above and beyond for the residents. My Mother, unfortunately, became gravely ill in October 2016. The care she received was second to none and always treated with dignity and respect.
When my family were called to the home, to say our last goodbyes, we were treated with the utmost respect and they couldn't do enough for my Mum and ourselves. When Mum finally passed away, the staff were truly saddened and the manager and nurses helped us with everything we needed to know regarding Mum's death.

Current Review Score: 8.5 (8.538)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.5 (8.538) out of 10 for Alexandra Court Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.421 for Alexandra Court Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (63 Excellents x 5) + (19 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (3 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 95 Ratings = 4.421
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.117 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Alexandra Court Care Centre is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 84 registered maximum number of service users is 16.8. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 16.8 = 0.417
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
