My mum passed away in the Nursing Unit at the very end of her palliative care.
She was meant to go into a specialist NHS hospice at Roxburghe in Aberdeen but there were no beds available. So we were concerned.

How wrong we were. Mum was made to feel as comfortable as possible, she was given as much

dignity as possible and the staff were out of this world. Cheery, hard-working, sensitive, nothing was ever a problem, they spoke and joked with mum right to the end.

It's also a beautiful place, inside and out and well looked after. We were so glad Rubislaw Park was where mum spent her last 9 days. And I'm sure she would've said the same.

Reply from Gayle Bain, Registered Manager at Rubislaw Park Care HomeMany thanks for your lovely review and your kind reflection of the care your Mum received during what we understand is a very difficult time for families.
I will share your review with the team who always cherish and value our families feedback. It was a pleasure to care for your lovely Mum during her final days.

Gayle

My dad is being looked after exceptionally by the brilliant team at Rubislaw. They gave us such an amazing welcome and are so caring towards residents and families. They also look out for my mum who visits every day and has included her in activities and made her feel part of the community. Living overseas

My father has progressing dementia and requires all his activities of daily living supported. Rubislaw's care staff are receptive to his needs and try to include him in all the activities when appropriate. He is a proud man and the care staff ensures he is clean and smartly dressed. They are all friendly
and approachable. I cannot recommend Rubislaw highly enough.

Rubislaw Park Care Home is undoubtedly the very greatest blessing we have had come into our lives just when we needed them. After two years of very difficult, rapidly-deteriorating health problems in Greece, my civil partner has settled right into the Home and found complete peace there. It is a privilege
to be part of such a first-class award-winning organisation. The whole place exudes joy and fun and the whole team gel so well together to provide the very best care we could ever hope for. They all know intrinsically what is best for every resident under every set of circumstances. Having been fed by stomach peg for many months, already my partner is able to feed himself and eat normally enjoying the taste of a wide range of beautiful home-cooked meals. Out of dire circumstances, he is rejoicing in a true quality of life again, thanks to the Manager and her expert team. I shall be forever grateful. Their ongoing refurb programme continues to keep the home fresh, bright and beautiful.
Reply from Gayle Bain, Registered Manager at Rubislaw Park Care HomeGood afternoon and many thanks for such a lovely review. Since my mum became a resident I have found the staff to be very helpful, caring, supportive and friendly. There are plenty of activities for the residents and if it wasn't for the staff encouraging my mum to join in and make friends she would be sitting in her room. I couldn't have picked a better
care home for her. Well done to all the staff. Mum absolutely loves the food, especially her porridge in the morning.

My friend has been in Rubislaw Park for only three months and has settled very well. She has a good rapport with the staff and enjoys the banter. She looks forward to her meals which she tells me are very appetising. Because of her health issues, she does not participate in all the activities but enjoys
the ones she does take part in. It is a pleasure to visit her in Rubislaw Park where she feels safe and is very well cared for. She seldom mentions her own home 'that speaks volumes.

My mum is so happy with Rubislaw. She sleeps well and eats very well mostly with assistance from a member of staff. Activity wise mum takes part she is having a new lease of life here. She is always clean and tidy and smiling when I visit. Each member of staff has their own special qualities, always
happy to help especially when I could not visit my mum due to health, the staff happily arranged video calls for me. Mum had a chest infection which the staff quickly and professionally addressed and mum is back to herself with the care from Rubislaw.

Since my father moved into Rubislaw Park in May he has improved in every possible way. He is looking very healthy, enjoys the company, he cannot speak highly enough of the staff that they have made him feel very much at home. Staff go over and above their duties to see that the residents are well looked
after. Finally, this is all due to a fabulous management team.

I enjoyed one week of respite care at Rubislaw Park. Despite Covid restrictions everything was excellent. Every member of staff was professional, kind and caring. Everybody was clearly happy and proud to be a member of the outstanding international team. My room was perfect, quiet and overlooking woodland.
And the food was excellent! I’ll be back when my other hip gives up!

The compassion, care and dignity afforded to my mum and the generous time given to us as we flew in from New Zealand to say our farewells have just been outstanding. So much care and attention to mummy's dress, appearance and waking hours to match the brevity of our visit has been extraordinary and
much appreciated by my husband and myself. All Covid protocols have been exact and easily executed leaving mummy in an atmosphere of such love, respect, consideration has eased our departure. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.

Rubsilaw Park Care Home has been my dad's home for the last 3 years. He is always happy and smiling when he sees the staff which shows his trust and fondness for them. He has had opportunities to participate in activities both inside and outside of the home. He enjoys the food and he enjoyed the happy
hour Fridays with my mum visiting. The staff have always been helpful, kind and professional, yet friendly with him and ourselves. His room is basic and could benefit from decoration. Overall, we are happy with his care home.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.773)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.773) out of 10 for Rubislaw Park Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 20 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.798 for Rubislaw Park Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (199 Excellents x 5) + (30 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 238 Ratings = 4.798
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Rubislaw Park Care Home is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 86 registered maximum number of service users is 17.2, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
