Following a fall at home and with a deteriorating neurological condition, we placed Mum in Aspen Manor Care Home initially for a period of respite care. The home is lovely with beautiful grounds, rooms, lounges and facilities and from the first phone call with reception staff to when Mum sadly passed away several weeks later, the care the whole team provided was of an excellent quality. The staff were kind, caring, helpful and went out of their way to make Mum's stay as safe, effective and comfortable as they could. They were patient and able to give Mum their time while welcoming our regular visits as a family and involving us in care decisions. When it was time to accept that Mum had deteriorated and was in the final weeks of her life, the staff worked closely with us as a family to ensure that she was cared for in a way that respected her wishes, kept her comfortable and cared for with compassion, dignity and respect.

The home is still new so is very clean and beautiful appointed. But physical environments alone do not make a great care home - it is the people who work inside that is the real strength of Aspen Manor. From reception, accounts, carers, caters and nurses. They are cheerful, helpful, kind, and experienced. It would be easy to single out one or two who really impressed but they are very much a team - and the whole is definitely greater than the sum of the parts. Weaknesses? Well, the lack of activities meant my husband spent a lot of time alone watching television alone in his room, but when I mentioned this good efforts were made to engage him in more activities.

Thank you for your feedback - they are very much appreciated. I will share your feedback with the rest of the team. You may also pleased to know that we have recruited a dedicated activities team leader who now co-ordinates the activities of the residents, subject to their wishes. Best regards.

This home provides fine facilities with staff that really exhibit a caring attitude. The home has become the home for both in-laws and they settled into the changes in their lives very well. It is welcomed to see that ‘strict’ Covid practices still remain in place. The staff do seem to go that extra mile to ensure the comfort, care and wellbeing of residents. Although the number of visitors is controlled, as a visitor we are treated with the same respect and friendliness as the residents by all the staff.

My father had 2 weeks' respite at Aspen Manor, they looked after him in a professional way. They're kind, caring and nothing was of trouble to them. He had a daily newspaper, a phone in his room, for no extra cost. Dad wants to go back next time I go on holiday.

I visited my nan and she was happy and the staff were friendly. They knocked when they came into the room and they were so respectful to my nan. She is so happy and my mum no longer needs to worry about my nan.

Overall Experience

This new home is beautifully appointed and has wonderful facilities. From the outset, the staff have been helpful and caring. It took a while for my husband to settle, and their caring attitude extended to me too. At the time of writing, there were only a few residents and so the lovely activity room is not yet in use. Covid practice is still in place and the number of visitors is controlled. We have experienced real personal care and the staff have put thought into making my visits special. My one slight personal niggle is the piped music which doesn't always seem necessary but it probably adds to a cheerful ambiance for the staff!
