Overall Experience

My mother was a resident here for almost 3 years. In the last 6 months of her stay, the care and food standards declined. She was getting upset about not being able to be in a quiet area. There were a lot of residents crowded in a small space, some of which disturbed the quieter residents. Having witnessed the pandemonium, it is a wonder what some of the residents had to endure. Every time I went in to visit mum, I was chasing staff for missing items, concerns about her health that were ignored. Her en-suite was dirty and the floor had marks all over it. The food was not appetising and she was given food she didn’t like. There wasn’t a choice and I had requested smaller portions and healthier food for her. In the end, we moved her to a place where she is safe and happy, with staff who are extremely kind and have time for the residents. In Avalon, it had become task-orientated and not people orientated, so staff were always busy. I wouldn’t recommend to anyone.

My mother passed away on 11th November. I cannot praise the staff enough about their support leading up to the events and immediately afterwards. They were kind, considerate and caring throughout, even though my mother often presented challenges. Thank you from all the family.

My father was sadly only at Avalon for a short while before he passed away, but I cannot stress enough how wonderful the team were, from the ladies that cleaned his room to the manager the care and support they gave Dad and our family was outstanding. We knew when we met the manager that the home would be perfect for Dad and it was. She and her whole team are amazing. It was just a shame Dad never got to enjoy all the activities etc there which are so vital.

I found the staff helpful, friendly and understanding. The manager has been particularly helpful over the phone prior to my husbands stay.

He was clearly well cared for.

The care my mum received in the 6 months she was in the home, by all staff she came in contact with, was excellent. Staff were patient, kind, friendly and did everything they could in Mum's best interests. She celebrated her 100th birthday at the home and everyone ensured it was a very special day, with the activities staff member especially organising a memorable day. As her appetite faded, every effort was made by the kitchen staff to produce the sweet food she liked, to tempt her to eat. Mum was not left on her own at the end of her life, ensuring her death was caring and dignified.

My wife has been at Avalon for the past eighteen months.
The care, love and affection we receive is superb, all the staff are so professional and friendly - a true home.
The property is light, bright and beautifully clean.
Rooms are generous and comfortable and many activities are engaging.

A superb provision for which I am so grateful.

Staff, carers and cleaners are very good, friendly and helpful. Room is good, food is good, nice home, clean and tidy all the time.
NEGATIVES - No patient turners, had to bring own.
Some days there is not enough staff to cope with demand.
No hot water one day and heating off for a couple of days.

Had to query the bill as not clear.

Our experience with the care home has been good. My husband has had two falls but that is in no way their fault. It is unfeasible to watch the patients all the time. They dealt with the falls well and communication is very good. A bit of confusion over missing underwear and other items though all labelled.

My mum has severe dementia. Before Avalon my mum has been in and out of different nursing homes and psychiatric units. Since being at Avalon, I have noticed a remarkable change in mums well-being. The staff from the cleaner, the carers, the nurse and the manager are amazing individuals doing a tough job.

One of the carers helps me take mum to see her great granddaughter on her day off. To all the staff, thank you, you shine like 10,000 suns.
