The care team are absolutely excellent and they go above and beyond my expectations.
Food at Badminton Place is excellent, the atmosphere in the home is warm and welcoming.
It is to be recommended in time of personal crisis, and every help that can be given, is given.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
I cannot thank Badminton Place and more importantly the staff for making my life and my mum’s bearable again. We have had excellent visit times in the purpose-built COVID safe environment almost on a daily basis and those days we cannot meet we can have a good chat by video link which is very clear
and easy to use. I am happier that we can help keep each other happy. It’s working very well.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.487) out of 10 for Badminton Place is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 23 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.487 for Badminton Place is calculated as follows: ( (192 Excellents x 5) + (44 Goods x 4) + (15 Satisfactorys x 3) + (8 Poors x 2) + (10 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 269 Ratings = 4.487
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Badminton Place is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 73 registered maximum number of service users is 14.6, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Mark

Mark Stuart

Job Title: Head Chef Joined: 2024

With a distinguished career spanning some of the world’s most prestigious kitchens, Mark Stuart brings a wealth of experience and passion to his role as Head Chef at Badminton Place. He began his culinary journey at the renowned Garrick Club in Covent Garden, training at Westminster College before moving on to esteemed establishments such as The Goring Hotel, The House of Commons, and Voyager Wine Estate in Australia.

Mark’s most prestigious role saw him serve as Sous Chef at Buckingham Palace, where he played a key part in historic events, including the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, the American Presidential State Visit, the Olympic Games ceremony, and the Diamond Jubilee. He cooked daily for Her Majesty The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, as well as other distinguished guests, including President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama—even fulfilling their personal request for a classic burger.

While he once thrived on the adrenaline of fine dining service, Mark now finds joy in creating memorable dining experiences for the residents of Badminton Place. Initially unsure about the care sector, a private chef role opened his eyes to the profound impact great food can have on residents' well-being. He is particularly passionate about using seasonal ingredients, crafting classic game dishes, and ensuring those in his care receive both nutritious and delicious meals. His favourite dish? Venison Wellington, preceded by scallops and bacon—a true celebration of British produce.

Mark takes pride in the close collaboration within his kitchen team, the special events they create for residents, and the small victories—like helping someone regain their appetite after illness. With the added benefit of his wife’s expertise as an NHS dietitian, he continues to refine his approach to nutrition and resident well-being.

For Mark, the most rewarding part of being Head Chef is seeing the smiles in the dining room and knowing his food brings comfort, joy, and nourishment to the people he serves.

Louise Smart is our Events Manager, bringing creativity, compassion, and dedication to everything she does.

With nearly five years of experience in the care sector and over 20 years as a qualified early years practitioner, Louise is passionate about enhancing the lives of our residents through engaging and meaningful activities. Louise’s path into the care sector began during the COVID-19 pandemic. After being briefly furloughed, she felt a strong desire to help those in need during such a challenging time.

She joined a care home as a care assistant, where her empathetic nature and desire to make a difference quickly shone through. It wasn’t long before Louise transitioned into events and activities coordination, where she found her true calling—bringing joy, connection, and purpose to residents' daily lives.
Louise is passionate about creating personalised and enriching experiences. She takes the time to get to know each resident—their interests, hobbies, and life stories—and tailors activities that reflect their passions.

Ana DeFreitas

Job Title: Hospitality Manager Joined: 2024

With over 26 years of experience in the hospitality industry, Ana Freitas brings a wealth of knowledge, passion, and heart to her role as Hospitality Manager at Badminton Place.

Her impressive background spans bars, restaurants, pubs, clubs, cruise ships, and airport lounges — but it’s here, in a care home, that she’s found her true calling. “My inspiration for working in a care home is to provide the very best hospitality for our residents – to make them feel like we’re a family.”

Ana is dedicated to delivering exceptional service and heartfelt care, treating every resident as she would her own loved ones. Whether it's a favourite drink made just right, a freshly baked pastry to brighten the afternoon, or simply taking time to sit and share a laugh, Ana believes it's the little things that make the biggest difference.

Her favourite memory so far? “Last Easter! I dressed up as a bunny with Louise (our Events Manager) and helped Angela (our General Manager) hand out chocolate eggs to all the residents and staff. The smiles on everyone’s faces were absolutely priceless.”
Ana ensures the highest standards of hospitality by listening closely, noticing the little details, and being present — always ready to add warmth to someone’s day. “The most rewarding part of my role is seeing our residents happy. When I see their smiles — and their families' — I know we’re doing something truly meaningful. I love getting to know each person a little better every day.”
