My father has been a resident in the care home for a number of years now and I have found the carers to be kind, considerate and aware of Dad’s needs. Being a sufferer of dementia Dad can, on occasions, be difficult and the carers have dealt with these moments with great kindness and patience.
More recently my mother has also moved into the home. Mum has different care needs from Dad being, on the whole, independent. Moving from Mum’s own home of many years was an upsetting time but the carers have helped Mum make this difficult transition. Mum is encouraged to join in the various activities and has settled in and made new friends very quickly. Mum is very happy with her new life in the home. Mum enjoys going out on trips and is looking forward to more of these outings in the future.

This has been a challenging time for all care homes and carers coping with Covid and the carers have really risen to this challenge and dealt with this difficult time incredibly well.

Since the day my dad arrived at Beverley Parklands Care Home, I have had nothing but praise for the care he has received. All the staff- care, activities, reception, kitchen, domestic and maintenance, treat him with respect and kindness. Every time I visit, Dad never fails to tell me how lucky he feels to be living there.

Mum has been a resident at Beverley Parklands for four years since an Alzheimer's disease diagnosis meant that living at home was no longer a safe option for her. Mum receives care and support which allows her to live in a meaningful and dignified way. The carers, lead staff and management are clear in their mindset about how safe and looked after they want Mum to feel and this is done through time spent with her and continued reassurance. The hairdresser at the home doing Mum's hair, thoughtfully, together with how Mum is dressed daily, is of immense importance as this allows Mum to remain being Mum in our eyes, care and attention to the details are a big deal. The staff also go out of their way to make sure that us, as the family of the resident are kept informed and are supported, this makes leaving to go home after a visit ok as we know that Mum is safe.

My mother only moved into Beverley Parklands in March of this year and was initially very upset to have to leave her own home and familiar surroundings for something quite new. However, she quickly settled in and has made several new friends and very much enjoys their company. She loves her room upstairs. There are various activities provided on a daily basis and although a little reluctant at first, she now joins in and even has fun!

I have only ever noticed the carers being kind and patient to the residents and taking the time to chat to family and friends too. Generally speaking, my mother enjoys the food provided, but it has to be said she had complained on one or two occasions. I have been impressed by the fact that any queries are dealt with quickly, efficiently and professionally, no matter how small. Beverley Parklands is a lovely place and I would definitely recommend it to anyone faced with the very difficult decision of having to move a parent into residential care.

The last fifteen months have been very challenging for the care sector but I am full of admiration for the way the staff at Parklands have adapted to the situation. At all times the management have been proactive in meeting whatever new protocols were introduced whilst keeping residents and their families fully informed. During this difficult time, my husbands dementia has worsened but I have been constantly kept informed on his condition and discussions have taken place on how life can be made more comfortable for him. The staff are consistently cheerful and very patient, dealing with my husband's mood swings and trying to keep him interested in day-to-day happenings. When I do see my husband in the specially adapted Visiting Room he always looks well dressed, neat and tidy and if it is a Friday looking forward to the Fish and Chips lunch.

Due to ill health and dementia, my parents suddenly found themselves in residential care so they could continue being together. They are well looked after in comfortable surroundings who care deeply for them and cannot do enough to help them. They never planned or anticipated being in such a situation and have found it extremely difficult to adjust to their 'new life' but have found support and encouragement at every corner. The accommodation and facilities are first class and they look forward post covid restrictions to being able to embrace the new surroundings and make new friends.

The staff at Beverley Parklands have gone out of their way to make mum comfortable whilst maintaining her dignity and regularly reassessing her ever-changing needs. The staff have enabled me to visit safely during the pandemic and been nothing but kind and respectful to mum and myself.

My Mum has now been at Beverley Parklands for 12 months and despite this being a difficult and unique period, she has settled in well. The wonderful staff and managers in this home have worked tirelessly during the current pandemic to support the residents in their care. Mum is extremely sociable and her experience here is enhanced by the fact that staff seem to 'get her'.
They have clearly taken the time to get to know Mum and understand her wants and needs. I have also been impressed that on the odd occasion when there have been some difficulties, Parklands have been open and honest about the situation, advising my sister and I about what has occurred and any resolutions that have been put in place. Mum loves the activities that are on offer.

She also regularly tells me about how nice and spotlessly clean her room is. Thank you, Parklands staff - your efforts, kindness and patience during this incredibly tough year are very much appreciated.

Dad has been in Beverley Parklands since March 2020 which has been such a relief to know he is well cared for particularly in the current situation. Beverley Parklands has been great at caring for Dad and putting things in place to keep him safe. I am regularly kept informed of Dad's care and current needs. The staff have been so good at dealing with Dad despite all the challenges he has.

Staff are always welcoming and willing to take the time to talk to me and give me support in these difficult times. I was able to visit Dad in the special visiting room and now through video calls which help keep us in touch.

Both my parents needed dementia care within 4 months of each other and for nearly a year they were able to be together in this wonderful, caring environment. They were able to spend most of their time and eat meals together. They were loved and cared for and most importantly, were content to be in what they thought was an hotel, where ‘everything is free’. That made us laugh but the worry of day to day life was completely lifted from them and that was so important to our family.

My father continues to be looked after at the highest level since my mum sadly passed away early last year. We have been unable to see him properly with the global pandemic taking hold. The management have worked tirelessly to keep our loved ones safe and secure, with regular staff testing, quickly setting up a secure visiting room and garden area for families, regular Skype visits and telephone updates. Cannot recommend highly enough. Thank you.

Our father has been a resident for over a year and is happy to now call it home, thanks to the wonderful care and attention of all the staff.
Every single person, from day and night carers to kitchen staff and maintenance, has gone over and above all they could do to make him happy and well at all times and particularly during this time of crisis, when he has also been unwell.
We and he are so very appreciative and for my sister and I, it gives us such peace of mind to know that he is being so well cared for and loved.

Many, many thanks

My mother was one of the first residents to move into the home in November 2017. She is a very strongwilled and independent 95 year old. Initially, I was concerned about how she would cope with the dramatic transition from her own home environment to that of a more structured regime. I need not have worried. She (and I) have found every aspect of the home to be well managed, professional, caring and homely in all respects. The current Covid 19 crisis has reinforced my already high regard of the professional and caring approach of staff members at all levels. I am so pleased that my mother is in such a safe, friendly and comfortable environment to see out her twilight years.

I cannot praise this care home and the staff enough. My great aunt was on end of life care when she arrived 18 months ago, not expected to live much longer, but is still enjoying life at Beverley Parklands. All down to the fantastic care she receives. At 96 years old she is still up playing dominoes and having a glass of wine in the bar with her fellow residents! The Home is beautiful and the staff is so kind and patient. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Don't be fooled by the fantastic facade of this care home. On the surface it's new and it looks better than a 5-star hotel! The reality is not so glossy. When considering this care home for your loved one you need to be aware that they will be asked to leave the minute they become too much hard work for the staff and have the potential to cause any disruption to the 5* feel of the place. This care home is not in my opinion suitable for the care of Dementia sufferers. My family and I have learnt the hard way to look beyond the facade and find a place which puts the care of its residents first and keeping up appearances second. Based on the care of my mother and the friend of mine who had a relative there I would not consider Beverley Parklands as such a place.

The most expensive is not always the best.

We didn't know what to expect. My sister lives out of town and we needed her to be near us. She has come on so much in health and mind. I would recommend Parklands to anyone. The care, food and cleanliness are more than we hoped for, cannot fault anything. The grounds are wonderful to sit in. It's home from home. Visitors are made so welcome, 10 out of 10 for everything.

Samantha Atkin
Samantha AtkinJob Title:Home Manager

I have worked in the healthcare sector for 20 years, six of those in management roles. Along the way, I’ve achieved my Level 3 in Health and Social Care, my Care Practitioner Award, and a diploma in accounting. I’m currently completing my Level 5 Leader in Adult Care qualification. Before becoming Home Manager, I worked as a Care Practitioner and Deputy Manager, experiences that gave me a strong foundation for the role I hold today.

I joined Care UK through a transfer from another home, and after researching the organisation, I was excited to continue my career here. Care UK’s focus on high standards of care for residents and colleagues matches my own values. To do this role well, I believe you must be approachable, dependable, empathetic, and adaptable, with excellent communication skills.

The highlight of my day is always time spent with residents, listening to their life stories and favourite memories. Supporting them to achieve their goals is especially rewarding. I’m proud to lead the team here at Beverley Parklands, where we work together to create a true sense of family and belonging.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my young daughter and reading.
