Choosing a care home for my mother was one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make. I have never once regretted choosing Caldwell Grange & The Lodge. The staff are so thoughtful and kind, and extremely respectful of my mother's dignity.

My friend has now been in this care home for over 3 months and I am extremely happy with the quality of care that she receives. The staff are always friendly and approachable, and you really can tell that they genuinely care about the residents. The home is very clean and has a homely feel about it.
I am always made to feel welcome when I visit and the team are always on-hand if I have any queries (which have always been sorted out quickly). I feel the support offered to the residents and visitors has been excellent and my friend is being looked after and cared for extremely well. Well done everyone at Caldwell Grange.
I would definitely recommend this home to friends and family.

My Mum was in Caldwell Grange for four and a half years. She recently passed. During the entire time she was there the Staff were amazing. You can tell they genuinely care about the residents. The home is very clean. I do not live locally anymore but always felt my Mum was safe and taken care of and
loved. I can't compare it to any other home as I have no experience with them but I doubt there is a better home.

Mum was at Caldwell Grange & The Lodge over 4 years and i cannot express my gratitude enough for the care she received. She was treated with kindness and respect, allowing her her dignity and letting her be herself. She was encouraged and persuaded if necessary, never forced to do anything. Mum liked
cleaning and was never discouraged, even though it probably made more work for the staff. Throughout her stay, I felt she was treated with care and consideration and the staff took time to talk and interact with her, telling me little anecdotes when I visited. I always felt there was someone I could talk to if I had concerns.
At the end everyone was amazing, helping to make it as easy as it could be for myself, my sister and mum. And, finally, they all showed the respect we had seen throughout her stay by standing outside the home as the funeral cars passed by.
I just want to emphasize that the consideration, kindness and care she was shown was also extended to me on my visits there.

Welcome to The Lodge was very warm and put me at ease. The room was ready for me and my family able to bring personal items. Delighted with room size, decor, and cleanliness. Information given to me - details of doctors, general care, etc. All in all, this helped immensely as I was very vulnerable -
leaving my home - losing independence to some extent, etc. *After 6 weeks the main course of meals is poor.

My Father came to The Lodge in January 2024. It was a very difficult time for him and the family but the staff helped him to settle in very quickly and soon built a rapport with him and ourselves. We're very happy with the service he and we have received to date and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Caldwell
Grange to others.

Mum became a resident during lockdown. An extremely stressful time. Staff reassuring and supportive during this extremely difficult time. Mum has never complained which tells me a lot, mum chooses whether she wants to be involved with activities, the staff talk fondly of Mum and tell me of funny incidents,
Mum’s room is always spotless, the staff are welcoming when I visit and there is a homely vibe, all staff including management are approachable, listen and responsive to any queries. Staff also keep me informed of any changes in health and health appointments so I’m able to accompany Mum for appointments. The reality is mum is happy and well cared for. Mum also has an independent reviewer who visits to oversee mum's care and to ensure mum is happy, no concerns have ever been raised. This also gives me reassurance. I feel lucky my mum is able to be a resident at Caldwell Grange and because of this, I’m able to sleep at night knowing my mum is safe.

Room/accommodation: Clean and tidy at all times, staff always willing to help my mother operate her television. My mother's pictures were hung on the wall. Catering: Mum loved the fact that she could have a cooked breakfast. Opportunities for improvement: Increased activity/visits and trips, useful
to have direct feedback on medical, dental, ophthalmic appointments. Overall - kind and friendly staff, knowledgeable and accommodating of my mum's needs.

Mum has been here now for six years. I honestly believe living here has added years to her life as she is so well cared for by the staff here. As soon as you walk in your hit with a homely, loving atmosphere that makes it feel like a big family. I am always welcomed on my visits and staff are friendly
and approachable. Mum is always doing something or on an outing which is wonderful as she was housebound for so many years before coming to live at Caldwell Grange. Mum shares the food is good and plentiful and there is lots of choice. The garden areas are a real treat when visiting in the warmer months. The management are visible whenever I have visited and are very approachable and ensure everything runs like clockwork. I seem to see the same staff each time I visit which is great for my mum as she has come to form really close bonds with those that care for her and gives me a sense of comfort and security.

General care is good during the day on the whole, night care is not as good as it could be. Mum is difficult to manage and this is reflected in her care. Personal hygiene is often not carried out thoroughly enough due to Mum's agitated state.

Mum going into a care home was so hard for us and the guilt was overwhelming. The staff at Caldwell Grange & The Lodge Care Homee quickly put our minds at ease. They are simply wonderful and genuinely care for the residents or as they call them 'their extended family'. They go above giving the care
required and, as a family, we can't thank them enough. Our chats with staff are comfortable and easy. Leadership and management are first-class.
Thank you all.

I can't thank all the staff enough for the exceptional care that was given to my mum. I really didn't want to put Mum into care but I really couldn't cope with Mum at home anymore as her dementia got worse. However, it was so obvious Mum was happy there, she loved all the staff and they loved her! They
were also very good to me, helping me to deal with the very difficult time of Mum's passing. Thank you so much.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (9.029)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (9.029) out of 10 for Caldwell Grange & The Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 11 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.720 for Caldwell Grange & The Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (101 Excellents x 5) + (25 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 132 Ratings = 4.72
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.309 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Caldwell Grange & The Lodge is based on 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 = 3.775
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 103 registered maximum number of service users is 20.6. 11 Positive Reviews ÷ 20.6 = 0.534
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
