Cherry Wood Grange Care Home provides high-quality residential, nursing and dementia care in beautiful surroundings. The award-winning team is dedicated to making every day meaningful for their residents by delivering personalised, compassionate care.

There is a varied schedule of stimulating activities to suit all interests and abilities; from art lessons, to choir practice, yoga and mindfulness classes, sensory therapies and live music performances. Residents are supported to enjoy regular outings to local places of interest on the minibus and maintain meaningful connections with the local community.

And with soothing lighting and aromatherapy, relaxing hand massages, and sound therapy, residents can experience multi-sensory relaxation as part of a group, or in the comfort of their own bedroom, during regular Namaste Care sessions.

We spent two weeks in Chelmsford, visiting from Los Angeles and to see my father-in-law. Last year he was in a different care home and the difference was like night and day. Amazing, friendly, helpful staff who all went above and beyond to make us all feel welcome. Father-in-Law is very well looked
after.

My nan came to Cherry Wood in October 2022 and has become so happier and well since living at this beautiful care/nursing home. She loves all the management and staff and nurses and on her birthday 3rd August 2023 who have given a buffet birthday lunch in the "fine" dining, she was surrounded by family
and friends and the staff made this a very special birthday, she is 89 and said it's a birthady she will never forget.
Thanks to all at Cherry Wood, you're the best.

I visited my uncle on Thursday. As usual he made it clear that he is very happy at Cherry Wood. He said he is very well looked after and the staff are very good. We chatted in the lovely garden, he got chilly then we went to his room which was very tidy and clean, bedding inviting! We had a few minutes
in the cinema room - a wonderful facility for the residents! The manager is always welcoming and greets visitors if she can. Staff too are friendly. Thank you for making my uncle happy and content.

Dad was referred to hospital by an alert senior carer. All transport organised by Cherry Wood and a carer assigned to take him three times to hospital. Their alertness and care ensured an enlarged prostate is in check for the rest of life. The staff are just great - every single one, from the manager,
activities, carers, chefs, maintenance and reception - Brilliant!

Cherry Wood always goes above and beyond, unlike Dad's previous home. For my father's birthday we were able to have lunch with him in the private dining room, a godsend as he has advanced dementia and is quite immobile. Activities organised everything, from a personalised balloon and present. Such a
lovely memory for the family and Dad did seem to enjoy it. This is such a caring home, where nothing is too difficult and my dad has fantastic care, attention and love!

Since arriving in Cherry Wood in February, my mother has quickly accepted it as home, a place where she feels safe and relaxed. The manager leads with her heart and has time for everyone. The staff are kind and caring and look after my mother with passion. My mother spent the last eight months of her life at Cherry Wood Grange Care Home and was cared for very well indeed. Her last few weeks were very difficult because of illness but thankfully she was discharged from hospital before she died and was able to spend her final days in familiar surroundings
at Cheery Wood with her family. The staff were marvellous!

My mother was given wonderful care in Cherry Wood Grange Care Home and was well-loved by the care staff. I live in Australia and although was able to chat with my mother almost daily until she was unable to answer the phone, I was happy with the care she was receiving. My mother never complained and
for me to be able to spend her last night alive with her was truly a blessing. The staff also looked after me in my grief. Thank you!

The amazing team at Cherry Wood Grange Care Home have taken care of my dad like he was their own family. The love, compassion, care and humour they bring and work every day are truly incredible. In my father's last days, they all took the time to take care of us as well as him, providing some amazing
memories and making us feel so loved and looked after until the end. I cannot give enough praise and gratitude that you made my father's time with you fun, silly, engaging and safe. It is always the people that make a place and the people at Cherry Wood are the best out there to trust with your loved one. A huge thank you for everything in the last few months and in particular, the last week. We are so very grateful.

I can't speak highly enough of all the staff at "my second home", Cherry Wood Grange Care Home. Every situation is met with care, patience and good humour. I can rest easy knowing that Mum is so well looked after. I would have no hesitation in recommend Cherry Wood Grange to anyone.

The team at Cherry Wood Grange do a fantastic job of looking after Mum. A few niggles at times, but the team are quick to respond and rectify any minor problems. The lifestyle team are amazing, always looking at different things to keep residents entertained and stimulated. The carers are so kind and
lovely, doing an amazing job to try to give individual care needs to residents led by the senior carer who is exceptional. The manager is kind caring and understanding on all levels - she really listens and responds in quick timing. Head Office has put the fees up quite considerably over the last two years, which whilst I appreciate other costs have increased if this continues it will price a lot out of being able to afford private care.

I had viewed many care homes for Dad and on recommendation from a friend, whose relative was there, was delighted from the minute I stepped into the reception area. The effort to maintain the cleanliness, smartness and ambience of the home is outstanding. The staff, without exception, have been amazing.
He has 'blossomed' and his well-being has improved dramatically. The food is amazing and menu choices and individual requests are always available. The activities available are plentiful and he enjoys the occasional outing to a garden centre or quiz in one of the lounges. His sociability has improved, having lived alone for four years, it took a bit of time! After his previous experience at a care home, I visited him regularly - possibly too often, but I've got to know many of the carers and staff members and their cheerfulness, willingness to go beyond their remit and camaraderie is constant. The only downside is that the 'ladies' are arguing where he sits at lunchtime!

I needed to place my mum into a care home due to a crisis - not safe at home. Contacted Cherry Wood Grange Care Home - they were able to accommodate my mum - great news. She has never been in a care home - she tells me everyone is lovely and looks after her. I was also relieved that Mum was safe too.
she has since been reviewed by social care - and would like to remain in a care home setting. The staff go above and beyond for all the residents in this home.

Sue Smith

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2022

Our kind and caring home manager Sue has worked in health and social care for almost 30 years and has a wealth of experience in strategic and operational roles. Sue spent much of her career at Runwood Homes, where, as their Regional Care Director, she commissioned and established new homes for the care group.


A natural leader, Sue enjoys leading and supporting her team and strives for excellence in delivering compassionate care.


During her career, Sue has been Regional Care Director for Runwood as well as ran three large care homes for older people, consistently achieving improved Care Quality Commission (CQC) ratings. She has also held specialist roles within Operations, Marketing and Customer Care.


Speaking about her role at Cherry Wood Grange, Sue said: “I’m proud to lead our wonderful, skilled and caring team. Our focus is on providing consistent, high-quality, care tailored to individual needs. Nothing makes me happier than seeing our resident’s enjoying life with us and the reassurance that this gives our families.”


When not looking after our treasured residents, Sue enjoys travelling with her husband, having explored much of the UK in their motorhome. She also loves to spend time with her grown-up children and her 9 grandchildren! She likes to relax by gardening, writing poems and practising photography.
