My father’s final year of life was spent in the wonderfully caring environment that is Culduthel Care Home. It was such a great relief to us when a space became available and throughout that time, the staff befriended him, watched over him, made him comfortable and attended to his many needs. Dad was admitted on a palliative basis. His final year was quite unexpected but knowing that he was being cared for in such a professional and kindly way has been a great comfort to us all as a family.

My sister recently moved into Culduthel Care Home. From my initial meeting with the manager, I had great confidence that this home was exceptionally well managed. The home itself is a really lovely, homely and very tastefully decorated with quality soft furnishings making it feel more like a hotel. It has very attractive coffee areas, lounge/dining areas and a hair salon. However, it is the staff that make Culduthel Care Home special. From management through to admin staff, nurses, carers and housekeeping staff, everyone was polite, cheerful, friendly, helpful, supportive and extremely welcoming, which made me feel at ease and completely satisfied that I had made the right choice for my loved one. I was encouraged by staff to customise the room in any way I wished and was helped by the staff to do this, nothing was a bother to anyone. All staff genuinely appear to want to make this home a happy place for the residents and I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Culduthel Care Home to anyone.

Dad moved into Culduhel Care Home during lockdown - this was a difficult time and it took dad a long time to settle. Staffing issues and restrictions due to Covid impacted on dad's transition to his new environment. Staff members (with input from the stress and distress team) have spent time and effort to support dad's care needs and he is now more settled. More activities are now available and dad is included whenever possible. The food is good and we recently enjoyed a restaurant standard meal in the home's private dining room to celebrate dad's birthday.

My husband and I are often in Culduthel Care Home visiting an elderly friend and have been very impressed by the care given to residents and also the warm way in which they welcome visitors. The staff are kind and caring and nothing seems to be too much trouble. We have noticed how they engage with residents as individuals, whether they are in their own room or in the attractive and comfortable day room. It is evident that our friend enjoys conversations with his carers and they show a genuine interest in him as a person, as well as being ready to give help where needed.
The in-house facilities are a real bonus, not least the well furnished café area where residents and their visitors can relax together.

Rooms are spotless and the staff address residents and visitors alike in a warm, friendly way. It is the loveliest care home that I/we have ever visited and our friend has thrived under their care and attention despite his physical limitations. A place we recommend highly.

Culduthel is a beautifully presented care home. Mum is in a large and comfortable room (with ensuite facilities) it is immaculately clean and tastefully decorated. At every level I have found the staff to be caring and efficient, Mum enjoys the variety of activities on offer and the staff know her very well. She certainly enjoys the food and the cafe areas are a lovely idea for a change of scene when she has visitors.

Mum needed some respite care following some illness and whilst awaiting care to be set up at home. When we approached Culduthel Care Home they were very welcoming and informative and made the process seamless. Mum had a delightful room, beautifully furnished and from the first moment on entering was made very welcome. All her medical and personal needs were met, every staff member had a smile on their face, they always acknowledged you when visiting and there was a visible presence of staff on entering the home. Mum got involved with all the activities and participated in the exercise classes and movie afternoon. She was able to attend the hairdresser and her own chiropodist and our dog was able to visit. Mum enjoyed the food and nothing was too much bother if she fancied something else that wasn’t on the menu. The manager was visible around the home and is very approachable, the home is welcoming, friendly, efficient and professional, this is credit to the manager and all her team.

For three months I have been a daily visitor and witnessed the most amazing care being given without exception to all residents. I leave each day in awe of the consideration, compassion, friendliness, warmth, patience and loving kindness that is shown by every staff member.
Time is taken to know residents by name and include them in conversation as they work. Nothing is too much trouble and requests are dealt with speedily.
Residents' rooms are kept spotless and they are encouraged to have mementoes from home.
The atmosphere everywhere is fresh and pleasant and the lounges are bright and homely. The cafe area is wonderful allowing the resident and family to be together in a relaxed setting.
Personal preferences are known and staff do everything they can to accommodate them. The varied menu is nutritionally well-balanced and expertly presented to hotel standards.

Our resident is happy, secure and has flourished beyond anything we could have imagined or hoped for. We are totally positive.

My mother went into this care home on 12 March 2020. The day of lockdown in Scotland. We had no idea this was going to happen and had the move planned for months. I literally dropped my mother off and couldn't see her for months. She suffers from dementia and also is totally immobile. The staff were absolutely fantastic. They were so kind, caring and respectful, we could not have asked for more. Management, nurses and carers all communicate with me very well by telephone and email as I live down south and only get up to see Mum once a month. She has a lovely room, and as dementia progressed, she moved to a different floor into another lovely room. The staff chat with her and joke with her every time they interact with her, they are absolutely marvellous. I can't praise them all enough. I viewed many homes for my mother all over Inverness, and also down in Worcestershire where I live, and not one came anywhere close to this one. We have been very lucky. If beer did care homes!

Culduthel Care Home is as clean as I would expect a care home to be, it is well managed and ran but care staff make the difference. They are interested and caring about the residents and their welfare. I personally do not think my brother-in-law would have survived his last traumatic illness if it were not for the support and care he received and will always be grateful for the extra time we have with him.

My wife has been resident in the home for approximately 2 1/2 years and in that time I have been completely satisfied with the way she has been cared for. She is a stubborn person and I note that the carers know how to handle this aspect sensibly. One of my daughters was difficult at the outset and I am pleased to report that management handled this situation with common sense and fairness. The home itself is most impressive with fine carpets, furnishings, fixtures and so on. Her room, with ensuite facilities, is excellent and I have always found it clean, tidy and at the right temperature. The staff are obviously very well trained, always friendly and my overall impression is that of an efficient organisation from the top down. Through no fault of the home, my wife had a fall resulting in a broken hip. The visiting GP did not make a diagnosis, but one of the nurses at the home was alert, spotted the situation and dealt with it very impressively.

My father was isolating himself, very low in mood, unmotivated to any task, he has now been in Culduthel Care Home for almost a year.
This year has been very difficult for all parties concerned, but the staff and management have listened to and addressed any concerns or requests we have had as best they could whilst adhering to restrictions.
Staff have continued to encourage my father to come out of his room, which has been a long, slow process to achieve, but he is now out of his room daily, having his meals with others and participating in activities.
The staff have also facilitated Skype calls in order for us to keep some face to face contact, which my father does enjoy.
Staff and management have kept their clients safe from Covid-19, which is a huge achievement.

I have put good for activity simply because it's limited due to restrictions.

From the moment that Mum entered Culduthel in June 2019 she has been treated with the utmost respect and dignity. The staff from the manager down are obviously highly motivated and professional people. In recent weeks during the Pandemic, I cannot imagine the turmoil that they have gone through to care for not only the residents but also themselves and their managers. The staff have tried their very best to stimulate Mum and keep her going over this extremely difficult time.

I understand that we are not allowed to name staff in this feedback which is a shame. I think though that my list would have to be very long as all the staff from the cleaners to the carers to the nurses to the entertainment staff to the kitchen people to the management all deserve a huge thank you for keeping my Mum safe and also all the other residents of Culduthel. Thank you Culduthel.

The care staff are dedicated, attentive and friendly.
The administration and management staff are welcoming and helpful.
The rooms are spacious, well-furnished and have en-suite toilet and shower.
The facilities are excellent; there are numerous lounges, 2 cafes, a cinema and a hairdresser.
The activities are expanding, and the views of residents and relatives have been requested and acted upon.

The car park is somewhat limited, but there is plenty of space on the street outside.

The entrance is very welcoming with beautiful flowers growing near the car park and front door area. The first thing to come to your attention is the bright, clean and modern, yet homely and welcoming seating/reception area just inside the front door. Staff are very pleasant. The corridors are decorated so tastefully - with amazing bright pictures on the walls. The bedrooms are gorgeous - so calming and spacious. Throughout the whole home, there is a feeling of confidence, warmth and intimacy, every need is thoughtfully met.

My mum enjoyed excellent care from all concerned during the time she was at Culduthel. She passed away just 2 weeks ago aged 99 and the care, consideration and real affection is shown to her was second to none and meant such a lot to us as her family.
Her dignity was respected at all times and I know she, like us, really appreciated that.
The care and support to us, her family, during her last days and after was much appreciated and will long be remembered.

Many thanks to all your staff.

Denise ScottJob Title Care Home Manager

We care passionately about our residents, staff and relatives at Culduthel. I am committed to developing a positive and caring home where people enjoy living and working.

I personally became passionate about caring for the elderly after moving to the Highlands when I was 19 to study nursing and midwifery. I went on to work as a staff nurse and in management with the NHS and the private sector.

We offer a variety of activities to suit resident’s tastes and needs at home. I want to ensure people can still enjoy their hobbies or make new ones, along with meeting new friends. Community outreach and local school engagement is also very important to what we offer.

We provide nutritious meals with great menu choices recommended by our chef and chosen by residents. All dietary requirements are looked after and there are six spacious lounge/dining areas so residents can choose where to enjoy their meals.

I want to ensure residents have fulfilled lives during their time at Culduthel; their well-being is my top priority.
