Although my mother only spent a couple of months in Garden City Court, before she sadly passed away, I can't praise the staff and management more. Everyone we met (from the manager to the housekeeping staff) were so kind and helpful. They couldn't do enough to make Mum comfortable and made every effort
to make sure that we were kept informed. The home is kept really clean, the food is varied, there are plenty of activities for the residents from gardening and cooking to cocktail making plus there are various outdoor areas for the residents to enjoy. Each resident has a lovely en-suite room with their own front door which can be locked by them if they choose, giving them a sense of ownership and privacy. We are so pleased we choose Garden City Court for Mum and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
Reply from Deborah Yadev, Marketing Manager at Garden City CourtGood day and sincere condolences on losing your mother, she was an amazing woman and from this review we can tell she was deeply loved by her family. Since Mum arrived at Garden City Court earlier this year, she has been really well looked after. Although Covid-19 has hit us hard, the staff have done everything they can to lift the spirits of the residents, often sacrificing some of their own free time to make sure the residents are well treated,
with compassion and respect in these very challenging times. Mum's wish was to be in this care home and she's very happy there.
Reply from Deborah Yadev, Interim Marketing Manager at Garden City CourtThank you for the lovely comments, our team are working very hard to ensure your mum and all of our residents are looked after during this pandemic. It has not been easy at times and hearing your comments brings a smile to our faces. I would definitely extend these comments to the team at Garden City Court.
Thank you once again and keep safe!

The home has always been a reassuring place for Mum with a real understanding of her needs. During 2020 and the pandemic we have been even more reassured that the management and running of this home is like no other. We've had regular and personal updates, with the team always willing to speak to us
about any enquiries we've had. Although lockdown has been hard, we've been able to believe that it has been for the right reasons. We know that Mum has been looked after and we've seen plenty of photos of the efforts the team has made to keep residents entertained. We've received honesty, kindness and a real sense of community in the past year. The change of management the home saw in 2019 is now making a real impact.
Reply from Deborah Yadev, Interim Marketing Manager at Garden City CourtGood afternoon and thank you for the review. It makes us happy to know we are able to support your mum during these times. I will extend your kind comments to the team. Thank you and have a lovely day.

Great care home with caring staff and well-kept facilities and buildings. Lots of activities and good-sized rooms and communal areas. Lots of space for gardening and there's even a lovely roof garden for residents to enjoy.

Throughout this pandemic (Mar 20-Nov 20 to date) all the staff I have been in contact with either by phone or email and senior leaders using their own phones for me to connect via What's App has been exemplary. Really clear, concise instructions have been sent via email to both my personal and work
one as agreed. Procedures were outlined and, were followed throughout the summer. They made time to give my mother access to the iPhone so we could speak especially when her eldest autistic daughter was hospitalised. My mother lost her eldest daughter in late May and due to the Covid 19 situation and the fact the funeral was in Kent, she could not attend. The service was live-streamed to my mother and the carer/s took time out to comfort her. They kept me informed about how she was dealing with this sudden bereavement. My mother had her 90th Birthday in the garden and in turn 3 of us were able to celebrate this with her. They bought her a large bunch of flowers and a balloon.
Reply from Melissa McNeilly, Manager at Garden City CourtThank you for sharing your review of our home. It is very important to us that not only do we keep our residents safe physically, but that we look after their mental wellbeing as well. I’m so glad we have been able to help your mum through such a difficult time and we will continue to support her the best that we can during these unprecedented times.

Mum has been at Garden City Court for 18 months now and this past 8 months has been the most challenging time. Everyone at the home has been so kind and caring, shown great dedication and helped my mum get through this awful time. They have kept her spirits up and provided us with constant updates.
As soon as it was possible, we had garden and window visits, keeping everyone safe and I can’t recommend the home enough. Thank you to the home manager and all the team who have taken such a weight off my mind.

On amazing party for residents and families that was arranged.
It was so nice to have such a 'normal evening' with my mum and for her be part of it.
As a family member; I appreciate the hard work the staff put in.

My husband has been in Garden City Court for 10 months and has been extremely well looked after. In our experience, the majority of the staff are caring and attentive to the needs of the individual, whom they get to know on a personal level. The head cook came to ask my husband what foods he liked or
disliked and made him a beautiful birthday cake. The food is very good and appetising and healthy snacks are offered between meals. The daily activities are varied and suited to both the physically and mentally incapacitated. The home is kept very clean and there is no smell of urine, except sometimes in his bedroom.
Reply from Tilly Leitao, Customer & Sales Co-ordinator at Garden City CourtThank you for you your wonderful review. We really appreciate customers taking time to provide feedback on their experiences. We are sorry to hear of the issue with the bedroom smell and do assure you that we conduct regular checks throughout our home to maintain a beautiful environment for our residents to live in.

Birthdays are very important and we always make a special effort to ensure these are memorable and I am pleased that your husband’s birthday cake was a success. I will certainly pass on your kind words of praise to our Chef for her attentiveness and to our lovely care staff who do such a marvellous job looking after our residents.”

This was first used as an emergency for my mum when dad was taken into the hospice.
The staff (all of them) have been wonderful with mum, making her comfortable and happy from day one.
All staff are approachable at any time, they keep you informed all the while. Nothing is too much effort for mum.
They even make her different meals if she wants.
Entertainment and activities are second to none.
Overall excellent.

My dad had a wonderful experience at Garden City Court, he stayed there a couple of times for respite. He had dementia and would always refer to his time there as a holiday. He enjoyed his time there and really bonded with the staff who were so friendly and willing to help with all his needs. He stayed
on Victoria Plum and would attend the day centre during the day. I was provided with photos of activities he had taken part in during his stay which was lovely as I was worried about if he would be ok. I was able to visit him whenever I chose as there wasn't any restrictions on visits. Our whole family was impressed with the care received and for the wonderful time dad had there.

My husband has been attending the "Q" club day centre at Garden City Court since early 2018. He seems to enjoy his visits there being usually quite chatty when I return to collect him and he does each week without complaint. The staff always seem to be kind and caring as well as polite and supportive.
However,
I'm not really in a position to choose some of the options below (eg food and management) as my husband has so little memory to tell me what he has done or eaten and I've not experienced them myself. Though I'm tempted to mark all as good or excellent.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.850)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.850) out of 10 for Garden City Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 20 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.850 for Garden City Court is calculated as follows: ( (201 Excellents x 5) + (31 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 234 Ratings = 4.85
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Garden City Court is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 75 registered maximum number of service users is 15, which has been reached with 20 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
