Gilwood Lodge Nursing Home

My friend has been here a few years now has been cared for in a great way. It is a caring home with the staff being very helpful when you attend. My friend seems very happy here and before Covid, it was like a second home to me. Yes, there are things they can improve on all places have that, but generally, I am very happy with everything. Communication between the home and myself has been great, I can all anytime and usually get through, apart from a weekend. The phone can ring for a long time and then ring out. Her husband is in another care home and their contact is my prime importance, and I would like to think Gilwood for feeling the same. Helping to charge the phone and supporting the arrangements they have. The staff are very friendly and I feel happy leaving her in their secure hands.

Significant improvements to the environment and atmosphere in Gilwood Lodge have been made over the last two years, bringing it up to the standard that you would expect for a modern-day Care Home facility.

I find everybody very helpful and friendly. Always willing to talk when I ring up, the home always contacts me if I need to informed of any issues my husband may have; hospital attention. I think he has settled in very well, he comes across content and at ease.

I find the staff of Gillwood very helpful. Unfortunately due to the Covid we have not been allowed into the home, my mother was admitted during lockdown so we have been unable to look at the home inside, but what we have seen seems nice. From pictures and videos of the staff and patients there seem lots of activities to do.

The standard of care my mum has is of a very high standard. My mum has 24 hour care. The staff are very friendly and care for everyone very well. My mum has been in a few care homes over the last four years, Gilwood Lodge Nursing Home is the best, by far. Thank you all.

Beautiful place to live, but most importantly, wonderful staff. It takes away the worry and guilt of putting our loved ones in a home when we know they are comfortable and have the best care ever. Nothing is too much trouble and a big shout to one member of staff in particular, who always is cheerful and bright, despite the nasty covid making things difficult. Keep up the good work everyone - you are all wonderful.

My mother-in-law has been a resident at Gilwood Lodge for around 18 months or so now. With new management in place shortly after she arrived there, the care she receives has always been excellent but with the advent of Covid their tender loving care has stepped up to an amazing degree which has demonstrated how much real affection the caring staff have for all their residents. As we have had extremely limited contact for the last 9 or so months the care-staff have become de-facto family and friends and have provided so many wonderful experiences for them to enjoy - pamper days, art activities, musical experiences, baking, dancing - the list of creative ideas appears to be endless! In addition, they have initiated a FB page for family and friends to keep in touch and see what’s going on and to learn about developments and changes in guidelines in a timely fashion. I cannot commend and thank them enough. I am so grateful to them all for their tender, loving care. Thank you all.

My husband was put in Gilwood Lodge Nursing Home on 11th October 2018, he has settled very quickly and I can't fault the care he has had. The staff are very caring and pleasant and every morning they have an activity hour which he enjoys, they also are supportive to me and keep me well informed on how he is doing.

What I loved most about this place is how the activities are all very upbeat, staff and residents genuinely all enjoy themselves during that time. The activities leader has such an amazing energy - she has fun with the residents and they absolutely love it! The activities are all designed with real people in mind and the positive impact of that is really clear to see and an absolute joy to be a part of!

My only criticism relates to the lack of "communication" - the relaying of messages or "requests for information" - I would suggest a "handover" or "message" book could be used to remedy this.

I normally visit 3 to 4 times a week and have never failed to find staff and management who are extremely friendly and caring to both my wife and myself. When other relatives and friends visit they are made welcome. It is a great home with a family atmosphere. All I can say is thank you for caring.

My wife has been in Gilwood Lodge 18 months. I have seen previous managers come and go undoubtedly many issues were evident during the time of the deported management. However the "current" manageress is so much better, many improvements have been implemented by this management, now any issues are discussed and acted on and invariably delegated to the appropriate section to resolve the concerns quickly.

Visited most weeks, have found home works well, would soon tell them if not.

Some excellent and caring staff dedicated to providing a good care package at Gilwood Lodge. Cleanliness is good and the rooms are well proportioned and kept in a good state of repair.

As I can no longer take mum out due to her condition, I have time on my visits to look around and watch the staff in action. The genuine care and affection shown to mum and other residents is amazing. These people are not in this job for the money, it is obviously a vocation - care comes from within. I feel grateful that mum is in such wonderful and safe hands.

My mum seems very relaxed since moving in. Her health seems very stable.

Staff always pleasant, helpful and obliging. Rooms warm, clean and comfortable. Everyone well cared for.

Until my mother arrived here from another nursing home, her life expectancy was minimal. Now, I am sure she will make 100. The staff have been so kind. She is much happier here. So glad we chose the Gilwood Lodge.

What I appreciate most is that the staff are very caring with mum and show her respect, friendship and dignity. Mum needs a lot of time to eat her meals which are now fully liquidized. The staff show incredible patience and take the time to ensure she swallows as comfortably as possible. Overall, we are very happy with the care and service given to mum.

My dad who has become a resident this year is a critical man who has high standards. However, he praises the cleaners, the laundry assistants and carers and nurses. He mentions how clothes are washed each day, neatly folded and put back in his cupboards. How all the staff chat to him. He explains how some carers are very experienced and choose to spend time with him for a chat. They also try and meet his requirements even though they can be busy. He likes the wet room shower and is impressed with the bath with a hoist.
